Yes. If the suit CAN work on film, then I think it should be as close to the comic book suit as possible. Which was the case with Raimi's Spider-Man suit. Now, obivously, I understand some things that work well in comics don't always work well on film, but in this case, Spider-Man's suit DID translate perfectly in Raimi's films. If it can work, go for it. Hell, if a redesign can work, then go for it, but if it's unnecessary, then don't.

With Raimi, he was working with a blank slate. Spider-Man had never been done in live action (theatrically) at that point. Webb has a much more difficult task. Not only he needs to make a great film but one that's completely distinctive from what Raimi did.

That's what most don't get. It's not about improving on the classic. I love the classic just as much as you guys, but to the general public, that's the suit Tobey Maguire wore.

It's a reboot. Some things will change to establish a new brand and to not be confused with what had already been done. I keep bringing up Superman because their in the exact same boat.

Marvel/Disney already snatched most of all the earnings from any merchandising related to any movie Sony now makes with Spider-Man. That's a huge dent already.

Disney is renowned for having the best lawyers in the world. You can bet they're working hard on getting the character back one way or another. The merchandising deal is already a giant blow.
This is true.

I didn't say it doesn't. But this new design looks more high-tech to me.
Well, I know you weren't, but I'm sort of saying it generally. The high-tech design just....doesn't seem right, IMO. Why does it have to be high-tech?

I think those contracts are iron clad at this point. The deals Avi Arad made with Sony and Fox back in the 90's makes it almost impossible for Marvel to get the rights back. At least to Spider-Man and X-Men.

Yeah, I think they'd only get Spider-Man back after the comic book movie bubble bursts.

Because it seems more modern?

The Raimi suit looked very perfect and everything... but this suit looks like it could actually take a beating.

The two main reasons why the suit is different:

1. It's a reboot spaced quite close to the last Spider-Man movie.

2. Different tone and sense of reality.

I get that you want the Spider-Man suit. But you have to accept that, for this movie franchise at least, this is the Spider-Man suit. I don't mind each reboot having a slightly different suit and new take on the Spider-Man mythos. How boring it would it be if every single reboot was basically the same?

Personally, I think that the next reboot should just use the classic suit again.

I've accepted the suit, but I'm not a big fan of it. I expect the suit to look different in each reboot, but you don't need to change it that much to make it different than a previous tirlogy's.

Yet Disney somehow found a way to get the majority of earnings for any/all merchandising related to any future Sony financed Spider-Man film. Again that's a substantial blow I think.

Some of you people honestly like the MOS suit? I think it's...bleh. It's not terrible, but god damn is it bland.

Eh, that's not a good reason, IMO. If you ask me, Spider-Man suit shouldn't be changed for the tone of something.

But it hasn't been drastically changed, as you're making it out to be! It's exactly this type of purist mentality that's bugging a lot of us. :\

It hasn't been changed that much. Red and blue body suit. Black webs. Angular eyes.

It's another interpretation of the classic suit.

As this movie isn't a carbon copy of the comics, but another interpretation, I'm expecting and will welcome changes, as long as they don't change who Spider-Man is.

Story>costume.

SMH12, what percentage would you give the new suit? Just curious.

No. The Acheson design was another interpretation of the classic suit. This is a redesign. There are many Spider-Man designs that have the features you mentioned, from Ben Reilly to House of M.

Disney didn't do anything. Sony sold them the merchandising rights in exchange for Marvel's point percentage in the film franchise. That means from this point on, what little stake Marvel had in the Spider-Man franchise, now belongs to Sony.

What is this suit supposed to represent though? Peter Parker's red and blue suit or Reilly's costume?

It has stuff that its borrowed from alternate suits in the comics, but it's still a movie interpretation of Spider-Man's classic suit.

I wouldn't be against a Spider-Man suit that's red and black for the next reboot, like the original design. I'd LOVE to see that.
