The Amazing Spider-Man Spider-Man Reboot Costume Part 4 - "What's that in his eye??" - Part 6

Can't we all get along and agree that organic with mechs that control the strand are the best way to go!

I actually despise the idea of a organic/mech hybrid more than anything!

Whoever posted that Spider-Man tech video thanks, it's the first time I've seen that, some interesting stuff there. Also a Spider-s hanging web is stronger than steel....:wow:

If they were to go with organic webbing, this would've been my preferable route to take because organic webbing without a shooter to guide would make it come out all chaotic and what not.

That was the original plan for Raimi's Spider-Man... no idea why he didn't use it.

You sure? I thought the original was just mechanics. I remember reading that James Cameron's version was going to have him use organics, but cover it with a webshooter.

Hmm, couldn't find anything on a hybrid. I swear I read somewhere that they were going to use a mix of both... guess they were just mechanical webshooters.

Found some things online:

From an old Hype thread:

"It was never a webshooter. Spider-Man's webbing, right from the time Sam Raimi took the job, was always going to be organic. This device goes back to the Cameron script, Sam was going to use it, to try and satisfy everyone. The web device that was going to be in the film was simply a device that could control the flow of the webbing. The webbing was always organic though."

"Actually the full story was that Peter Parker grew glands on his wrists that shot webbing in such an unpredictable way that he had to make wrist attachments that controlled the direction/spread/speed/length ete,etc of the webbing. "

I guess by not having the web-shooters they saved alot of screen time by not having to explain 1) how he made them and 2) what their use is for.

In the official novelization of the film the whole scene where peter first shoots his webbing and then decides to make the webshooters to control his webbing better is in there

I was thinking it was from there! Thanks, man. :D

So...not only did they take actual dialogue from Cameron's script....but they also took that idea from Cameron's pitch...that's nice.

Huh?

That wasn't Cameron's pitch.

Cameron's idea was 100% organic with FAKE webshooters that Peter wore so people wouldn't think he was a freak.

Raimi's idea was a mix, organic webbing, but had mechanical shooters to aim and streamline the web.

Cameron's idea just sounds stupid... how would anyone ever think that was a good idea?

I heard that he was offered to do the reboot, wonder if he would've done something simular to his original script

Cameron had the worst pitch for a Spiderman movie ever

I’ll probably get flamed for this….

Granted, it’s been YEARS (at least 10-12) since I read Cameron’s script, I don’t recall it being too bad. Yeah, there were glaring differences (organics, Electro/Sandman combo, kinky spider-love), but there was a lot that I enjoyed about it. It really was “gritty” (before Nolan even dreamt of making a gritty superhero flick), but still had a lot of fun moments. I feel it was a celebration of the character for a more mature audience. One thing that sticks out to me is how he planned on opening the movie – with Spider-Man narrating while hanging upside down, webbing up a Bugle newspaper, then frustratingly folding and ripping the newspaper up after reading it.

I dunno, I really didn’t have a major issue with his treatment.

You can read it again here if you'd like a refresher.

It's honestly not THAT bad.

I don't think it's that bad either, tbh. Some tweaks here and there and it could have been a pretty good Spidey movie.

If Cameron directed Spider-Man, we would have been sure of three things:

1) Jaw dropping action sequences that would have put other superhero films to shame. Nobody does action like Jim Cameron.

2) Cutting-edge visual effects. The VFX Oscar would have already been in the bag.

3) A great Mary Jane Watson. Strong female characters are Cameron's forte.

Cameron was only going to use fake webshooters? Well, I had that wrong then. Thought Cameron was going to use organic webbing and mechanical shooters.

Eh, my bad, lol. Still...they still took some of Cameron's dialogue.

Yep. Here's that bit of the script I posted:

STRAND: I want this to work out. You're a smart kid. Like those phony bracelets. That was a good idea.

PETER: (alarmed) What are you talking about?

Strand puts his hands on Peter's shoulders.

STRAND: Son. I know your secret. See... I had the web material you left all over my living room analyzed. It's real spider silk.

He grabs Peter's wrist and rips off the fake wrist-shooters. Looks closely at his wrists. Bends the hand back, forcing the spinneret to poke out a little. Mary Jane looks a little shocked at that one. Peter sees the fear in her eyes and his will seems to collapse. He sees the everything she feels for him changing in a second. It's true. He is a freak. He is no longer human.

STRAND: You can take off the costume, but you will always be the Spider Man.

SPIDER MAN: It's just Spider Man.

Man, that would have been great. MJ NEEDS that treatment, she is one of the most strongest characters in Spidey's life next to himself and Aunt May
