Glad Pirates is doing well it was a entertaining film, and Depp deserves it he's earned it 10 times over. Spidey has a great chance to break the record it has the advantage of the May release before the other films come out. Have faith.

the first day HAS TO BE over 80- plus mil and definitly over 150-200-plus mil on the weekend becuase not only have people been hyped for this movie since SM but also people have been WAITING FOR VENOM on the live-action front for ever..and now they get thier chance...plus who doesnt love spider-man

PLUS i head PoTC2 sucked...the first one was good but i heard the 2nd had no plot and went nowhere slowly...and the 3rd wont be expected to be as good since people hated the 2nd

First everyone is moaning how all the changes rumored in Spidey 3 will ruin it and now POTC 2 comes out and wipes the floor with Spidey's record and now everyone is like......"We have to go see it three or four times" "We must pull together!"

No one is going to go see a movie more than once if they didn't like it the first time....regardless of records being broken.

I don't care how well this thing does right out of the gate it's coming out first. Whatever records it does break, if any , will be in serious trouble once POTC 3 comes out on the 25th!

I think it's rather silly for someone to be claiming Pirates 2 outright sucked and
no one will see 3! That's your opinion pal. I enjoyed the film and so did a lot of other people. The same people that hated the first film are picking this one apart, Gee what a shock!

If you are obessed with Spidey 3 breaking records you'd better not brush POTC 3 off so easily....it is a serious threat!

i was quite impressed with Pirates 2 achievement at the box office
despite not getting near the marketing Xmen 3 dished out.
if Part 2 can gain that much attention -there's no telling what
part 3 could do ......

i think Spidey 3 will be heavily marketed as usual, i would be
extremely impressed if it could manage to break Pirates' shattering
record - that's quite a number to try to surpass.

Strong Marketing, movie reviews, Venom- interest and word of
mouth will play a huge part in Spidey 3 trying to regain
the 3-day box office record...

Pirates producers picked a very good time to release their film
with no other new film to really challenge the box office interest.
i was hoping Spidey producers would do the same.
i heard a lot of kids were packing the theaters in the daytime
further enhancing the box office totals and saturday's day total
was just unheard of !!! .........

just to think, i thought the next Harry Potter or Shrek 3
were more of a threat to the wall crawler than
Pirates 2 ...

i neglected to mention the cliffhangers left after spider-man 2 that people are impatiently waiting for and what things they desire to know

- After sm1 people were expecting harry to find out about his father and about pete in sm2...it didnt happen until the very end and now we are left with questions such as: will he confront pete?will they work it out? will he take the serum? some of these the trailer may have confromed but also what about mj will she stay with pete? will they live together etc we want to see the next chapter in this story

so yea and POTC2 did royaly suck check the reviews so if u love pointless plots and eyeliner on men than amen to you buddy. but the 3rd may redeem itself....and as for shrek hahahahahaha fools did shrek 1 or 2 beat spidey? i think snot haha think snot...mmm snot

Why hate on POTC: DMC because it smashed spidey's record? DMC was a great movie and the general audience seems to love it. It's not some dumb popcorn flick, the story is fun and involving, and you cant help but to love the characters. SM3 is going to be in a run for it's money when POTC3 comes out. I hope both films kick ass and make a killing at the Box Office. 2007 cant come soon enough.

WOW I just saw POTC 2 and all I can say is WOW!

Where the hell was the movie? there was no begining middle or a end.


Just because their is going to be a third one does not mean the 2nd does not need a ending.

The Davy jones effects were great.

But the movie was WAY to long and did not go ANYWHERE!

it reminded me of LOTR The Two Towers, just a middle no begining or end, and too frickin long to have no point.


Pirates one was a complete movie all into itself WHY can't pirates 2 be?


The StarWars movies may have all fit together to tell one story but each movie was complete and was NOT just a middle.


On it's own POTC 2 sucked, when 3 comes out I am sure it will fit in and we have a complete story and it will be good.


But for F's sake BAck to the Future 2 &3 were both shot together and those move stand well by themselves., why can't pirates 2.

At least all the Spidey movies go together yet they are perfectly fine on their own too.

LMAO! I just saw POTC2. OVERRATED!

It was a good movie, that's all it was. Nothing more. It wasn't as good as the first one, which means the opening weekend for the third one won't be as good. Even if the opening weekend from the third one beats $132M, SM3's opening weekend will still humble those numbers! Guaranteed!

After seeing the movie, I can now say that POTC2 is gonna be heavily frontloaded. $350M max.

Ask ANY kid in this world which movie they would rather see, POTC 3 or Spider-Man 3? They'll say SM3, guaranteed. I almost wish POTC 3, Shrek 3, and SM3 all came out on the same weekend so Spider-Man can massacer them and give them both the beatings they deserve for daring to step up as contenders.


Seeing as how SM1 made only $200 less per theater than POTC2, and it got released 4 years ago, taking into account rising prices and population and POTC2 was actually a sequel to a good movie and SM1 was not a sequel, it's a given the record will be be broken. I'm predicting a $160M. And that's just based on it being Sm3 alone and before factoring in Venom.

I agree. Pirates 2 was big although I dont understand why, I fell asleep watching that long-ass movie but anyway, lets way up why sm3 will be the overall dominator.

2. its the 3rd movie
3. it progresses Harry's story
4. Venom (This alone ensures a BO beating on any competition).

Nailed it. Venom is hands down the most famous villain of the 90s/2000s he's gonna be a huge draw. Pray hes in the trailer though

It's funny about POTC. Considering it's doing 4 times the first ones box office. It really is a good movie.

I pointed this out in another thread though. Movies are getting so expensive that you realy have to pick and choose the ones you really want to take the kids to. I chose Pirates over supes, of course I would of never chosen it over spidey, but I think that's happening with a lot of people. That's why FF and Supes Didn't do as well as some people though they would have.

I think Spidey 3 will still be up there though. Any one do a comparison with inflation of ticket prices calculated in?

I decided NOT to go see POC this weekend, just to help guard Spidey's record... oh well.

We'll need to see SM3 several times opening weekend if it's going to beat Pirates NEW record of $132 mil!! (Crap.)

The sad thing is, the reviews for POC are poor. But the quality of the first one, combined with the special effects in the previews, and the fact that Dep is a draw and "pirates" (arrrr!) are a favorite with kids, combined for a big weekend. (Surely higher ticket prices had something to do with it too.)

I think that it may be hard for SM3 to beat that... from what I have seen, the buzz on 3 is that it is darker... If a movie is going to do those numbers it HAS to appeal to a WIDE audience. Including ALL ages.

like most have pointed out....i don't understand what the big hoopla around POTC2 is. the first one is really good, but this second one wasn't all that.

granted is wasnt a bad movie, but some parts i just fell asleep. some of it was dragged out and boring. depp really does make the movie, but any other scene where he was not involved, was really MEH!

Pirates 2 is overated imo. I couldn't even stay awake for that long-ass dry movie. I'll admit there were some great scenes but the film bored me. I may have to see it again just to see if I suffered a momentary bad experience or if the movie was that boring....seriously, I fell asleep and thats something I never do at the movies

No one syas it could make more the Spidey 2 but thats not the point it will hurt Spidey's third week box office.

Especailly since the Shrek movies are getting more and more popular as the clebrity cast list rises.....

First of all POTC2 was more than good... it was a great summer flick... you don't just make 400 million (which it probably will make) being just an okay movie... I think Spidey 3 can break it... but I am not betting on it... regardless I think it will edge out both POTC 2 and 3 but this is really too close to call... 2007= Biggest summer ever at the Box office

I don't understand why everyone is going nuts over what will break who's record...Who gives a crap if Spidey breaks or does not break any records. All that proves is that people with too much money make the big execs even richer than they already are. I have news for you all (this may come as a shock to some of you) If a movie makes $300 million opening weekend, it does not make it a better film than if it made $15 million. All I care about is if the final product kicks my ass...I couldnt care less how many other people go to see it. If it breaks records, cool it deserved it...If not, I won't lose any sleep.
