Star Trek Beyond - Part 1

Dont expect any answers about Carol Marcus:

As for the fates of Alice Eve‘s character Carol Marcus (who joined the crew at the end of Into Darkness but is absent from this adventure) and Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Khan, don’t expect any answers in this story:

Justin Lin said:
We pick [the crew] up about two and a half years after the end of Into Darkness. But there was many iterations where we did go and explore. At the end of the day, I just felt like we’re two and a half years in. What we shot and what’s gonna be in theaters, quantity wise it’s quite a bit. But then to be honest, I actually had even more beyond that. So that’s something that we definitely talked about and worked on. In the presentation of this film, it didn’t quite fit in.

You really couldnt fit Carol into the film? Really, Lin?

Based on Lin's Interviews i will hold off basing final judgement till I see
more.

Lin Is defently trying to say to trekkers hey i watched the tv show.maybe there
is something to plot that will be better explaned in second trailer.

Cooling off Spock/uhuru and moving away from into darkness sounds good:cwink:

still destroying enterprise isn't good sign.

Simon Pegg calims he knew trek before before cast.well soon enough we will
see if that's true.

I didn't know people cared about her.

I think because now there's only one token chick again.

Why cool off Spock and Uhura?

Truthfully, I don't even remember how things ended up for her. I barely remember the second films except for certain moments.

But, there's the new female alien and it seems she'll be more interesting to watch.

Hopefully Zoe Saldana has more to do here than the first two.

She looks ridiculously good looking even when screaming her lungs out. Even the purdiest starlets in Hollywood look ugly screaming.

She joined the crew at the end of STID...I could see how hard it would be to fit her in because she was a scientist and Spock pretty much fills the role.

I didn't know people cared about her.

By the end of STID I considered her as much a part of the Enterprise crew as the rest. JJ had her on the bridge at the end so he was probably setting her up to come back in Star Trek 3. Lin dumping the character without even bothering to explain her absence is just lazy.

Agreed. Also thanks for making Uhura a Smurfette guys. Gotta love Hollywood!

She always was one. She was the lone named member of the crew before Nurse Chapel and Yeoman Rand were brought in.

That doesn't mean that they couldn't have changed (and I'm cool with most of it but lets not pretend that the series hasn't changed) and allowed Carol to be in the film.

I didn't get the feeling Kirk and Carol Marcus had a very long relationship in the original timeline anyway. Its possible they've broken up already and Carol left shortly thereafter.

We not know the behind the scenes reasons why she isn't in this film. In film, she could have gotten reassigned to work somewhere else (Genesis project).

Maybe they figured since she wasn't part of the original core group and it being a couple years after the events of the second film, she was expendable and they didn't feel much need to explain why she isn't around.

and judging by Kirk's dialogue in WOK...it was a messy break up:

UHURA'S VOICE
I have an urgent CommPic from Space
Lab Regula I for the Admiral. Dr.
Carol Marcus.

KIRK
In my quarters, Uhura.

UHURA'S VOICE
Yes, sir.

Awkward silence.

BONES
It never rains but when it pours --

KIRK
As a physician you of all people
should appreciate the danger of
re-opening old wounds.

Really how hard would it have been for a character to ask Kirk how Carol is doing and him to say, "IDK havent talked to her since..." Or "She's still on *insert random planet name* helping out with the *some science project*." ? Would that have really burdened the movie so much?

How do you know that isn't in the movie?
but then again the way Kirk got around it's best to not ask about his women

The underlying reason is that it's not in Kirk's nature to have a long term love interest. He's always been a hoe.

It felt to me like they were setting them up as an actual couple. Disappointed that she won't be in the new film, but I guess that makes ignoring STID easier (for those who want to do that).

Having Kirk in a relationship is a mistake and takes away from the funniest part of the character. He's left a trail of women in his wake and even after WOK didn't get back with Carol...as he was with a woman named Antonia in Generations

Kirk is the James Bond of the 23rd century.

It's funny how the song seems to work better here...
