Star Trek Beyond - Part 1

So, apparently a German version of the trailer leaked couple of minutes ago! Saw it and here are my thoughts: It makes the movie look a bit different, compared to the last two. And the color palette used in the trailer looks a bit "washed" out. Like that they are including more humor this time. Last but not the least, the music was cool (I think it was used in the scene where young Kirk was driving the car in Trek '09).

Didn't really like the washed out color, but this one definitely has more humor and more action

Sofia Boutella is seriously impressive in Kingsmen and now ST Beyond. She's the stand out in that trailer. She's genuinely badass! It helps that she's a magnificent dancer to pull off all those flexible moves.

Not a fan of that colour, or those uniforms... Can't decide much else right now considering it's in German! :p I like the new transporter FX.

Ugh. Why does the ship always get destroyed? It's not dramatic anymore. Knowing JJ, they probably destroyed the Millenium Falcon in TFA too.

This looks really low budget, does the whole movie take place in a rock quarry? I'm getting a Star Trek V and Insurrection vibe!

I have to agree, i hope it has to do with quality of this leak and the final version will look much better. Looking at the trailers for Abrams's Trek films seems like night and day.

Btw, is it just me, or this trailer had a bit of a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe?

That's not a finished version of the trailer. If that's been color-corrected and finalised I'll eat my shoes, absolutely no way that's the finished palette.

I recall Pegg saying in an interview that after GotG was so successful, Paramount execs told him to make the script "Less Star Trek-y, and more Guardians of the Galaxy".

So yeah. :(

Wow they have really guardians of the galaxy'd the franchise big time if that trailer is accurately reflecting the tone of the film. I thought the first two films had too much humor as is so...I'm not super happy about that potential development.

I think it's clear this will continue being star trek In name only.

now it's trying to be GOTG instead of Star Wars.

time for me to give up on the nutrek films and stick with trek I loved on DVD.
Maybe the trek show on CBS streaming will be more STar Trek.

To be fair, the Trek films have always been trying to be something else. The original pretty much was a 2001 copy, then from Wrath of Khan onwards they tried to be more like Star Wars, with more action and lasers. I just hope that they present some interesting moral dilema in the middle of this action adventure.

I will be laughing if Trek fans start crying for JJ to comeback.

See I never cared about the new version of Trek not being exactly like the old version, I was fine with most of the changes in aesthetic and tone...for the first movie. With the second and 3rd films I was looking forward to them finding a nice balance of making the films modern blockbusters but with some of the moral dilemmas of old Trek but they seem to be moving further into action land. I mean it could be a fun film but do they really want to continue to move as far away from the original concept as humanly possible? Well I guess the answer is yes, I hope they get more of those international dollars that they are desperately craving.

let's be clear a lot of trekkers liked the 2009 film it was Into darkness we disliked with passion.critics and GA liked Into Darkness.

Having enterprise underwater at begining of Into darkness was clear signal of how bad film would be if your trekker.

Into Darkness was first trek film i didn't buy on home video.Based on everything now it looks like first trek film I won't be seeing at all.

If CBS wants their trek streaming show to be success they better have something to attract trekkers because i doudt the GA people they are trying to attract will sign up for CBS streaming service.

I'm sure the show is going to be directed towards the more hardcore fans. The current film version of Trek wouldn't be able to sustain 13 episodes. It's too silly and light on story to make an interesting show out of.

For those complaining about the color, there's no way that's the actual palette. Like even the logos at the beginning were off. That's definitely just the poor quality of the rip (or however this person acquired that trailer), imo.

Anyway, I can't really judge the "jokes" without hearing them so I'll stay silent for now.

Yeah. It's nothing new & teasers are just teasers. It's was fun by the way & I'm sure the HD version will look better.

Can't say much for the teaser, as I can't speak German, but it really doesn't feel like Star Trek. It's a little disheartening to see Star Trek latch onto other sci-fi series (Star Wars, and now Guardians of the Galaxy) when it was pretty much the prognieter of sci-fi on screen for most people. It's trying to be something isn't. It just feels like this franchise is dying, and it's holding onto anything to stop itself from drowning.

Too much jokes in Star Trek??? I guess people forget how Star Trek had joke episodes...the two featuring Harry Mudd, Trouble with Tribbles, Piece of the Action. Hell Voyage Home is pretty much non stop fish out of water jokes the minute they come back to the 80's.
