Star Trek Into Darkness - Part 3

I've only seen him in War Horse, to be honest.

Everyone loves him from Sherlock. The average person has no idea who he is. Personally I like him though he is definitely not the reason I will be seeing this, not even close.

It certainly won't be mine, either. I'm not that keen on him myself. I enjoyed the first season of Sherlock, but not enough to watch the second series. I saw him in Frankenstein and he was good, but his performance didn't stand out compared to others, and in anything else I might have seen him in I never felt he brought anything to the films that indicate to me that they'd be worse if he wasn't there.

He's not bad, but I get the impression he's the next actor to be that "in thing" at the moment, something I could never jump onto myself.

I'm not a big Trekkie but I am really looking forward to this movie. And, on top of that, the 3D in the prologue before The Hobbit is some of the best 3D I have ever seen.

Plus, I need my Cumberbatch fix until The Hobbit Part 2 and Sherlock Season 3.

The second season is even better than the first.

Far better than the first and I am a big fan of the first. I'd say Ep. 2 was not as good as 1 and 3 though. I loved Irene and their Moriarty. Brilliantly acted and written.

The 3D in the nine minute preview was excellent. More so when you take into account it is post converted.

That was post converted? Wow, I would have sworn it was filmed in 3D. Whatever company did the conversion needs to do every conversion from now on. Or at least for every CBM.

I've heard nothing but great things about Sherlock and Cumberbatch. I'm really interested now.

New plot description from Empire Mag:

With Earth under terrorist attack from Benedict Cumberbatch's ex-Starfleet employee John Harrison, Kirk is this time forced into a rash decision that breaks a critical Starfleet command, puts his crew in danger & costs him his captain's chair. Now out of uniform and dressed down in space civvies of black leather jackets and boots, our three heroes have separated from the Enterprise and headed off on a mission to try and rectify his mistake...

I wonder if the rule he broke was saving Spock at the beginning?

I read that he risks the whole crew saving Spock and that it was a violation of the Prime Directive so that could definitely be the reason he is forced out of Starfleet.

Something real bad must happen then. Because Data broke the Prime Directive in Pen Pals, and got a scolding/mark on his record, but not expelled. I assume Kirk does something extremely foolish ontop of it.

Pike talks about how Kirk lacks humility. He probably argues and fights the judgment pushing Starfleet to make an example of him. Considering this film takes place less than a year after the first, Starfleet is likely on edge.

Sounds very interesting. Breaking the Prime Directive is something we haven't seen in a ST film before. Plus it fits with Kirk's character.

I've always found the Prime Directive to be a pretty idiotic law.

Apparently so do most writers, since they seem to keep breaking it, repeatedly.

And yet other writers have been able to use it as a framing device for some pretty decent stories.

Plus you know, writers usually ignore the laws of physics too.

That was awesome of Abrams to screen it for the terminally ill man. Nothing but respect there.

The only way it would be a violation is if they disrupted the natural order of things on the planet. Can't wait to see how...
