Star Trek Sequel - Part 1

I feel like with the helmets, Klingons won't be able to have a bigger role in the movies. Who wants to watch one of the best, if not the best, alien races in the Star Trek universe with helmets covering their faces? Why not just make an updated design of the TOS appearance?

hmm...for some reason they look cooler in that image.
I suspect they won't always be wearing helmets. I mean, it doesn't make sense to wear the helments/masks on board ships, but maybe in combat.

In a practical sense, it doesn't make sense to wear the helmets on their ships. But the Romulan Centurions from the original series wore those odd gold helmets while on their ship:

Could be the helmets represent rank or something. As in, maybe the uniform isn't complete without it. And a Klingon about honour would want to make sure his uniform is complete. But, who knows.

Interesting development on the Klingons, I didn't realize there were cut scenes of them from the first movie.

Just use the ridged Klingons FFS. The longtime fans of the show know the "real" reason for the TOS Klingons, and recent fans won't know or won't care.

Enterprise had a clever storyline to explain the Klingons without ridges

Krypt, your timing was not far off. The REAL teaser trailer for Star Trek 2:

Edit: Oh damn, I got fooled too! It's an epidemic. I'm going to leave it up, since it's well done. I blame this site for passing it off as real, fooling gullible and hopeful people like myself: http://gammasquad.uproxx.com/2012/06/star-trek-2-teaser-hits-looks-like-space-seed
SEE!! That's the one that I was talking about! That's exactly where I got it from, because I follow this group on YouTube. I didn't know it was fake until I started reading the info about it, only then I knew that I just had been dooped. Extremely well done trailer.

They already have created a full Klingon look with prosthetics under the helmet. It seems unlikely they would always have the helmets on. Maybe for the grunts.

It was a great, creative storyline, but for the new movies we can do away with it. Not too many people go to conventions dressed like GMO Klingons, they dress like Worf Klingons.

Actually it would make most sense to wear a space suit on a starship, but nobody does that either.

I suppose it really depends on what they do with the villains. Remember the first movie? With the exception of Nero, the Romulans were just a generic threat. Even Nero wasn't very characterized beyond "you didn't save my planet, so now I'm going to destroy yours... and Earth for some reason".

Would anyone have cared if he wore a helmet throughout the movie?

I love the retro design of the original show.

This is true...it would make sense to do that for the grunts.

Apparently it is very unlikely that there will be a Star Trek panel at this year's San Diego Comic Con...

Not a great surprise if true.

After three huge production problems and delays (World War Z, GI Joe 2, Hanzel and Gretel), Paramont needs to saw money on the one movie (Star Trek 2) that is hopefully their saving grace.

Why doesn't Abrams hurry up and name this Star Trek movie? I'm getting tired of referring to it as "Untitled Star Trek Sequel", which is how you have to search for it in Wikipedia.

I really loved what Lindelof said about Cumberbatch's performance. I can't wait to see it.

Star Trek 2 Villain Finally Revealed?

Following months of feverish speculation about the identity of the villain in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel, most of it centering on one Khan Noonien Singh, star Karl Urban may have finally let slip who Benedict Cumberbatch plays in the film.

During a promotional junket for Dredd, Urban praised the Sherlock star, telling SFX, ““He’s awesome, he’s a great addition, and I think his Gary Mitchell is going to be exemplary.”

Assuming Urban isn’t practicing a bit of misdirection, it certainly explains why Benedict was shown wearing a Starfleet uniform in photos that leaked in February from the film’s set: In the original series episode “Where No Man Has Gone Before” (the second Star Trek pilot), Lt. Commander Gary Mitchell is a Starfleet Academy friend of Kirk’s who serves as helmsman about the Enterprise when the ship penetrates the galactic barrier. The cosmic energies leave Mitchell with psionic abilities, which begin to destroy his humanity, transforming him into a deranged, and deadly, god-like being.

But then again, Urban, at the behest of Abrams & Co., may simply be toying with legions of fans who have been trying to ferret out Cumberbatch’s role at every opportunity (leading Simon Pegg to express his exasperation).

The film, which opens May 17, 2013, stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Bruce Greenwood, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

Yeah, didn't they come out and say that
Mitchell
ISN'T in the movie?

If thats the villain, then great choice.
much better than Khan.
I like stories about [BLACKOUT]People gaining powers and losing their midns like Chronicle or to a lesser extend Akira[/BLACKOUT]

Really hope it's true

Gary Mitchell already died in the ongoing alternate reality Trek comic series, which is considered to be canon

Yeah it's like the Star Wars expanded universe, it doesn't matter!

The thing to remember is that Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman are involved with the comics. So would they kill off Gary Mitchell there only to use him in the actual film?
