and yet you continue to prove his point

For those who DO acknowledge the Expanded Universe, which stories are your favorite?

One of my favorite is Star Wars: Union. I'm a sucker for sci-fi love stories and Luke and Mara are my fav SW couple.

Outside of the Zahn Stuff, really like the AC Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy and Rogue Squadron Series, which they totally should make into a series.

I'd love to see a Rogue Squadron TV Series.

Oh goodness, I don't think I could do well with this. Especially if it was a TV series and you really wouldn't get the bigger names as if it was a film.

Probably a lesser known English actor.

You'd need someone who looks at least a little like Denis Lawson.

Oh so... the reason he hasn't made anymore SW films is to punish his critics!?

How in the world do you take this quote and twist it into an evil, tyrannical dictator who is punishing his slaves?

“Why would I make any more, when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?”

This is a man who has dedicated his life to creating these stories. He is now nearly 70 years old. For the last 15 years, he has tried to make his stories better, and to bring new films out, and yet, he is treated like a horrible person. You should see the videos of fans booing him at conventions. Since the mid 90s, he has been unable to do ANYthing SW movie related without a terrible and personal backlash from "fans". Why on earth would a 70 year old man want to continue? How can you blame him for saying "I don't want to do anymore".?

Nevermind about the loyal fans that have made him a billionaire. It just astounds me how selfish this guy is, yet people keep pouring money into his pockets every time rerereleases these relics.

He's selfish? Lucas is an avid supporter of education, cancer research, and the creative arts. He works closely with the following charities and foundations:

Artists for a New South Africa
Bid 2 Beat AIDS
Edutopia - The George Lucas Educational Foundation
Film Foundation
Make-A-Wish Foundation
Racing for Kids
Stand Up to Cancer

He's donated $175 million to his alma mater to help improve their film degree. And he has donated half his wealth (a donation of nearly 1.25 billion) to charity. Yes, he is truely a selfish person who swims in all the money he's stolen from loyal fans. It's not like he puts the money to good use or anything.

I don't care what he's done for special effects and Sci-fi. He's been paid back in spades (and with very little gratitude I might add). Now he needs to stop being a *****e and hand the franchise over to filmmakers who still care about it.

So you don't consider all the charity work, improvements to cinema and film technology, and donations to film schools to be gratitude? I guess its natural that you would ignore how much he has done for cinema, and how much he has selflessly given to help others because it suits your agenda.

Him not wanting to make any more films has nothing to do with him not caring. And I really don't see how this makes him an ungrateful *****e at all. He could have easily stopped everything after Return of the Jedi. No games. No comics. No statues. No expanded universe books. Nothing. But he has allowed fans to embrace the stories and build upon them and turn them into their own for over 2 decades, and aside from his retirement from hollywood films, has no plans of ending this symbiotic relationship.

I'm not a Lucas-apologist, and I'm right there along side sane fans who don't agree with many of Lucas' creative decisions over the years. But Star Wars is HIS. He has every right to do with it as he sees fit. If fans don't like it, they don't have to spend their money on it. Simple as that. If you want to be upset that Lucas is not going to make any more SW films, fine. We all can be upset, but to react like you are and to interpret his motivations like you are is ridiculous. If he has no more film-worthy stories to tell, that's fine. If he is simply tired of the personal attacks and grief angry mobs give him, that's understandable, too. To be completely blunt, it's "fans" like you who can be blamed for beating an old man into exhaustion.

I do aknowledge the Expanded Universe and don't like when fans speak as if it wasn't canon, i didn't read or watch many AU stories but i like the Clone wars tv shows, the Thrawn Trilogy and Splinter of the Mind't Eye, Tales of the Jedi was ok.

Well, since some of those stories killed of some of our favorite characters (Chewbacca, Ackbar, etc.), who could blame them?

I love Chewie and thought his death was nicely done...not only was it in the process of saving someone but how Han dealt with it in the aftermath

I liked New Jedi Order and all the novels after it

So Lucas is indeed retiring? I don't think so.

Very neat commercial. That kind of stuff makes me nostalgic for some reason.
