State Your Opinion on a Marvel Character

Look he's clearly a rip off, now as a character they've actually done better and more with him than darkseid who's pretty standard in a lot of ways. This isn't saying he's a bad character or that that isn't something that's done with pretty much every character in the history of fiction ever so it's not that big a deal. And it's a smart move. They saw a great character underutilized (or perhaps wrongly is the better word) and they took him and just made him better. So yeah he's a rip off, but he's a damn good one.

Can someone please explain how he's a rip off? Because, other than a vaguely similar look I don't see it.

Character modeling, power level, oh and the fact starlin said he modeled thanos on darkseid.

Here let me wiki thanos for you:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanos

Although there are parallels with Jack Kirby's Darkseid, Starlin has said this was not quite the case:
“ Kirby had done the New Gods, which I thought was terrific. He was over at DC at the time. I came up with some things that were inspired by that. You'd think that Thanos was inspired by Darkseid, but that was not the case when I showed up. In my first Thanos drawings, if he looked like anybody, it was Metron. I had all these different gods and things I wanted to do, which became Thanos and the Titans. Roy took one look at the guy in the Metron-like chair and said : "Beef him up! If you're going to steal one of the New Gods, at least rip off Darkseid, the really good one!"[2]

I think the only thing that was "ripped off" is the look and that they are really powerful space gods.

It's just superficial similarities really.

It is what it is.....and it is a rip off. :o :)

But that doesn't take away from him being awesome. Superman's got dozens of ripoffs, some of which are quite good.

Quoting his immortal line from Superhero Squad show
"Huu Duh"

He's awesome

wow the mad titan was so pleased. hes going to kill someone and make out with his skeleton girl in the backseat of his 67 chevy impala. next up a round of applauds for the bubbling, bouncing, bombastic, benevolent, blue

I'm a fan of beast in the incarnation that you chose. I really really don't like the cat look though, thought that went too far for no good reason. Love the character's personality, that of a genius in the body of someone u wouldn't expect it from. Good stuff.

Agree 100%! I prefer him when he was an Avenger back in the 70's. Definitely enjoyed his relationship with Wonder Man.

In the X-Men movies, he didn't seem to have much of a sense of humour at all. You'd think they might make use of Kelsey Grammer's wit at least.

Agree 100% and with rand! That why I picked that version( I freakin hate that horse cat thing he is now and what's with the ascot and granny glasses?! Only freddy from scooby doo wears an ascot and he looks like crap!) The 70's version I the best! THE BEAST IS AN ALL TIME FAVORITE!! I remember when he joined the avengers. Iron Man asked when he last saw him he was a raging beast. He said Mannnn I listened to some miles davis, drank some wine and I chilled the %^&& out!! That made me a beast groupie forever.I will always dig him cause
A) he taught me as a kid to not take everything so damn %^^& serious! If you take everything that way you will throw a rod and break your crankcase!
B) if you are smart.you don't have to walk around telling people you are! Either people know you are and if they dont , then they are not worth your %^&*% time! People will judge your book by its cover regardless but %%^^ them and be yourself! I love him! Changing him into that cat thing was one of the reasons I stopped buying xmen, but I will always love him and I want the fun one back!!

One of the best mutants, and one of the better Marvel characters

Prefer him as the big ass human form, though I don't mind the Cat look.

Either way it's still Hank, and Hank, is the dogs bollocks. (That's a good thing.)

Great character. Prefer the old look, but I'm indifferent to the new cat appearance. I don't have a lot of exposure to his recent stuff though, the ways I'm most familiar with him is the 90s cartoon and Whedon's Astonishing run.

I don't mind the big cat, just want to know how it happened

Oh my stars and garters.

Beast is awesome, 70's Avengers Beast with Wonder Man is the bestest.

I'm down with Beast. Yeah, I prefer ape version but it's all good. Feline McCoy is still McCoy. :)

Beast is the best mutant character Marvel has.

Feline Beast is less dexterous than Ape Beast now, since he's missing a finger/ digit.

It was further mutation from the serum that he 1st used to chnged his apperance and became gray to sneak into the brand corporation( they were an evil corp! Geez ain they all) which then mutated to the blue ape one I dig...in other words some new artist/writer came on the book and wanted to change ^$## around to how they wanted! Hehe

Love Beast. Originally I hated his feline-look but after a while (and depending on the artist) it grew on me. I was very surprised at just how well Kelsy Grammer did Beast justice in X3. One of the very few X-Men I actually love. Spoiler: [blackout]Not an X-Men fan[/blackout].

Actually, it was Morrison.

Wanted him to be more like Beast from Beauty and the Beast.

The in comic reason was he nearly got killed, then Sage did something that caused him to devolve more.
