It's been amazing seeing a horror film do so well, especially one that totally deserves it. Really looking forward to Chapter Two and even if it sucks at least I'll still have Chapter One which feels like a complete movie.

Anyone watch yesterday's SNL spoof of IT with Kellyanne Conway as Pennywise and Anderson Cooper in the role of Georgie?

:lmao::lmao:

I honestly think that the second one will be handled very well. Seeing how great the first movie performed, I think WB will be extremely careful and tread properly as to see a similar response with Chapter II. And if they execute it well, the hype from the first will do nothing but serve it well.

But yeah, I absolutely agree. It's phenomenal that a horror film has climbed to these heights. It outperformed past even my wildest of expectations & has set a whole new precedent.

Will this movie finish ahead of Spider-Man: Homecoming domestically?

I'm glad this film is performing well. I enjoyed it so much that I hunted down the novel and read it over the past couple of weeks. Having finished it though, I worry that unless some clever narrative decisions get made by Muschietti or his writers then they are going to struggle to make the sequel satisfying. The volume of content may be somewhat similar between the children and adult threads, but the adult stuff is almost entirely in service of the child narrative. On its own, the adult narrative is flimsy and a bit threadbare, not to mention repetitive by design.

I'm very curious how they intend to make this work. Personally, I can't help but wonder if TV is the best medium to adapt this story in rather than film.

Agreed on the whole post

I don't wanna say no but chances are slim to none tbh. I can see 'IT' doing at least 328 million and closing in on 330 million at the end of it's theatrical run but going beyond that will be very difficult. Maybe 'IT' will get a solid Halloween bump but even then I don't know if it'll be enough to propel the movies' total past SH:M.

Picked this up at NYCC this year:

Saw at least 2 kids dressed up as Georgie this year too.

“IT: Chapter Two” To Be More Psychological
By Garth Franklin

The film adaptation of the first half of Stephen King’s “IT” looked to be a hit before it’s release, but then it turned into one of the biggest movies of the year and certainly the biggest film of its genre with a $631 million worldwide gross at the box-office.
As a result, “IT: Chapter Two” quickly moved forward as the project has become a top priority for New Line. Adapting the second half of the book, the new film will deal with the adult versions of the characters but have flashbacks involving the kids again.
Whichever time period they choose, Pennywise the Clown won’t change with actor Bill Skarsgard reprising his role for the second volume. Speaking with IGN recently, Skarsgard says expect the sequel to shake things up a bit:
“The first movie worked so well at what it is trying to do, I think, and ultimately that is the kids’ story, and you follow these kids and you sort of fall in love with these kids. And the second one will be the adult story. And I think the right way to do it is to make that movie actively different.
I think there might be worth exploring sort of the psychological aspects of horror, but also maybe the sort of cosmological existence of this being. What is he, and where does he come from? And, you know, it’s hardly answered in the novel, either. I mean, it’s very abstract.
And I kind of like that. It could be almost a sort of surrealistic sort of psychedelic trip if you go into the mind of Pennywise. And if you’ve read the novel you know that they do actually go into his mind. Or they go into this transdimensional place, and they sort of beat him in this place. Which might be interesting, what that place would be, and what would it look like. There’s opportunities, I think, and I’m excited for it.”
Skarsgard also participated in a Reddit AMA the other week and revealed one scene too disturbing to include – one set in the 17th century in which he in pre-Pennywise garb forces a mother to listen as he eats her newborn baby.
“IT: Chapter Two” is set for release September 6th 2019.

IT grossed an estimated $12.8M internationally this weekend. International total is $331.4M, global total is $651.6M.

'IT' opened in Italy this weekend with a gigantic 7.7 million and if I'm not wrong, it is the biggest OW ever for a Horror movie in Italy and it's probably also the biggest OW (Hollywood) in Italy in 2017. Ahead of billion dollar club juggernauts like BATB, F8 and DM3. Absolutely astonishing.

Hopefully this fantastic worldwide box office means the sequel gets a budget bump. I'm sure they can make the sequel without a bigger budget but the crew deserves more money after this success.

I was listening to a podcast and it had two actors who auditioned for the role (the actor who plays Jonah from Veep auditioned) and it was funny/interesting hear them talk about how they auditioned.

The scene was the mayflower or something like that, early settling in Derry and Pennywise had to convince a woman to give him her child. The actor from Veep said he played it like Pennywise was a child molester.

A bigger budget is a given. It also means that more higher profile actors will be interested in roles of the adult Losers.

I'm curious how far down the rabbit hole they're going to go with the stranger more psychedelic portions of the story.

Weird. That was in a script a few pages back.

Opening scene is officially out.

http://****************.com/movies/it-movie-reboot-new-line-opening-scene/

Almost two months have passed since Pennywise first sunk his teeth into the global box office and still, New Line’s It reboot continues to print money.
One glance at the box office charts will tell you that the Stephen King adaptation – arguably the best of the bunch – has grossed $320 million in North America, which makes for a grand total of $653 million worldwide. Not bad for an R-rated horror pic anchored by a cast of relative unknowns.
It’s a testimony to Andy and Barbara Muschietti – not to mention the young cast – that It exceeded all expectations to become one of 2017’s greatest hits, and to celebrate that historic feat, Fandango has released that intense opening scene in which the young, unassuming Georgie falls into the clutches of Pennywise. Not only that, but It is expanding to 2,500 more screens this coming weekend in honor of the Halloween season.
