Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

I watched the entire season today. I got to say while it wasn't that bad, I thought it was a big step down from the previous two that I loved. There were still things that I liked but other things really annoyed me. The writing was much worse. Some of the dialogues were really bad and the humour felt much more forced this time around.

Four episodes in and loving it. Really digging the arcs they are giving the characters and Cara Buono could GET IT. I’m still saucy that Don Draper dumped her for his vapid secretary.

Please please please tell me that Mike’s “Nana took a turn for the worse” lie was a nod to The DENNIS System.

Just finished. Another masterpiece season. One of the best shows ever made, oh my Lord.

This season felt extra padded to fill out 8 episodes, imo.

I love the 8 episode seasons with 50-60 min runtimes each. Everything gets fleshed out and never drags. I wish the Marvel Netflix shows had done the same.

Mine includes both. :o

I just finished binging the whole season. I thought it was pretty much on par with the previous two seasons. It slumped a bit around the middle and the Nancy & Jonathan plotline was a bit boring until they joined up with the rest of the gang but the finale was great, possibly the best out of the show so far.

Spoiler territory:
I kinda figured Billy was a goner due to where his story was going, and because they have to keep tradition of doomed characters whose names start with B, but he had a good death.

The Mind Flayer also seemed like a "final boss" type of enemy. They're gonna have to jump through some hoops to top that next season.

Hopper's death crushed me, along with the epilogue at the end with the Byers family and Eleven moving away. However, that credits scene got me thinking when the guard said "Not the American." I'm sure the theories have already started. Could Hopper have survived and was transported there along with the new Demogorgon? Time will tell. On the one hand, that would cheapen Hopper's death but his absence will also be felt greatly on the show since he's one of the best characters. Since I believe there's only one more season, anything could happen.

That was my first assumption, yeah. They didn't put that line in there at random.

For me, it has to be..

Season 1
Season 3
Season 2

I like season 2 a lot but overall, I find it the weakest in comparison

Just finished. Tempted to say it's my favorite season. It took some time to get going, but once it did I was really into it. Season 1 is still probably the best in terms of writing, but the character building moments in the latter two just made for a more enjoyable viewing.

A couple of moments towards the end definitely got me in the feels. I got a little misty-eyed with Hopper's supposed death and then while Eleven was reading his speech.

Steve and Robin are my new favorite duo. Their scene in the bathroom solidified Steve as my favorite character and might be my favorite moment of the show. I had been in almost the exact same position as Steve before (which was a memory I ironically had been nostalgically revisiting before I binged the show) and so it really touched my heart. Very excited to see their friendship grow in the future. Was a little weird that Steve wasn't at the goodbye with everyone else since it seemed like he had a close relationship with all the kids in-between seasons.

Not sure if I liked the whole Russian thing. It isn't totally out of the realm of possibility, but it felt odd. The guy hunting Hopper and Joyce felt unecessary. Not sure how I'd change that subplot if asked.

Wonder if they're going to bring back that the other test Subjects from last season to help with Eleven getting her powers back.

Would've liked some more moments between Billy and Max before Billy was possessed. Despite all the padding the next couple of episodes have, I felt they rushed Billy's possession. Could've been saved for the following episode, but then again nothing really happened in the first one.

I rewatched Hopper's death after I saw the credits scene, and I feel they leave enough room in how they edit it to not ruin the moment if they reveal he's alive.

I wonder how long they'll hold out on that kind of reveal though. I imagine it'll probably be like Eleven's and be the final scene of the first episode, but I wonder if they'll hold out longer.

Well I kind of loved that. Probably my favorite season so far. I liked last season a lot the first time, but it didn't really hold up on repeat viewing, as it felt a lot like a game of delaying. I have a much better feeling about this one. That it will hold up a lot better. This got to the point a lot quicker, while having plenty to do. It felt rather different, while still feeling like Stranger Things. Robin is my new favorite character. The only things that annoyed me were Lucas' little sister and the attempts to make Samwise relevant. I still don't care that he died. :funny:

I really hope season 4 isn't the last. I want at least two more.

You'd think that is who it has to be, but then I wonder if they threw that in there to give us hope, only to crush us in the future.

I'm also 4 episodes in, and it's been pretty great so far. I didn't realize before just how attached I have become to these characters until now, but I am really loving the different dynamic with them not being little kids anymore, and dealing with adolescence of becoming a teenager. The character interactions are still a lot of fun and you got to love Carey Elwes as the sleazy mayor lol. Also, the scope and visuals of this season are just insane.

So many rich and vibrant colors.

The ending...

Hopper maybe dead or stuck in a crazy russian gulag and two doomed long distance relationships...

If Hopper survived and is in that gulag, Stranger Things 4 should be an all new cast of russian characters with Hopper.

Also, this was the best Terminator since T2. I will call it the Russianator.

What a season!

Man, they better mean Hopper in that mid-credits scene because if they teased that and he is not coming back but instead they mean that lame ass character from season 1 "papa" then I will be fuirious

Writing was wonderful. The plot progressed by kids being kids and there was so many layers to characters, people felt bad for the last person they thought they would

I respectfuly dissagree. I personally ended up not caring much for important moments of characters I really loved.

Something I realized about Episode 8 (SPOILERS):

The deaths of Billy and Hopper could have been avoided had Dustin's girlfriend not made him sing the Neverending Story theme instead of just giving him the damn code up front. Now I know Billy needed that redemption death and Hopper may not actually be dead, but that doesn't convince me that Suzie isn't the greatest monster introduced on this show. :o

On par with season 1 for me. Well the writing is certainly not as good as the previous 2 seasons (I dare to say the plot is quite safe and not really intriguing), but the character work is absolutely mind-blowing, out of this world.

So
Is Robin gay or she just messed around with Steve ? God damn they were such a cute couple and it really is a shame if they end up being friends.

Also does anyone like
the singing scene between Suzie and Dustin ?
Most people seem to love it but I find it really distracting and ruin the tension of the sequence.

Again, I'm not impressed by the plot but the character work is just unbelievable.

FInished the season and I really dug it but it did feel a bit more like, “been there, done that.” So it’s basically more of the same but overall I had a blast. This moved at a brisk pace, and I never felt like anything dragged like a lot of the Netflix shows tend to do.

Hopper’s supposed death(not sure if he’s really gone so extra emphasis on ‘supposed death’) and the subsequent speech read by El was really quite heartbreaking. I nearly shed a tear.
The way the season ends makes for an interesting status quo for the next season.
