Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

It's basically just the same plot, which makes it interior to 2 previous seasons.

On the other hand the character development are just far superior.

So
Is Robin gay or she just messed around with Steve ? God damn they were such a cute couple and it really is a shame if they end up being friends.
They made it pretty clear that Robin is a lesbian. Which is okay. We're all rooting for Steve at this point, and while it would have been nice for him to be with someone who's right for him, I think that having Robin as a new best friend who's there for him is just as good. He needed someone his own age to hang out with anyway.

FInished the season and I really dug it but it did feel a bit more like, “been there, done that.” So it’s basically more of the same but overall I had a blast. This moved at a brisk pace, and I never felt like anything dragged like a lot of the Netflix shows tend to do.

Hopper’s supposed death(not sure if he’s really gone so extra emphasis on ‘supposed death’) and the subsequent speech read by El was really quite heartbreaking. I nearly shed a tear.
The way the season ends makes for an interesting status quo for the next season.

I loved that they used Heroes again, it played in one of the best sequences in season 1

Only three episodes in so my opinion is definitely incomplete, but so far the season is really leaning hard on you loving these characters and since I don't love them all that much, it's been pretty "eh" for me to this point.

Plot contrivances and recycling of tropes have always been a thing with this series, too, but man this is really starting to stack that kind of stuff high. Just way too convenient how all our principal characters from the previous seasons are still in separate plot-lines deeply involved with what's happening in this one. Joyce's and Dustin's access points to the central mystery/threat are especially chortle-inducing.

What a ride. Absolutely loved this season... it could be recency bias, but this might be my favorite season.

Everything seemed to fire on all cylinders.
Ha, I also seem to suffer from “recency bias”.

There's no beating Stranger Things, Season 1. But I liked this latest season better than season 2... I think. I'll have to watch it more, to be sure. Some takeaways:

Mike is unfortunately at peak-awkward years, here.
Eleven is a bit overpowered IMO. By the end, everyone is pretty much just standing around, hoping that Eleven will save them.
It did seem pretty coincidental that the "Russian walkie talkie" actually got wrapped into the main plot. Like.. we all knew that it would, but thats the sort of thing that can make the story feel cheap.
It was actually Bill that stole the show this season, for me. That was a welcome surprise.
The show still manages to frighten me into thinking that one of it's characters is going to die, and after 3 seasons.. that's a decent accomplishment. 8/10

Yeah, but the Peter Gabriel version isn't my favorite. :( I'd rather hear Bowie.

Frankly I think theyve went too light with El's powers. Her whipping that hellbeast around that hospital room was really badass but she's an opposing power to a literal eldritch God-like being and its dimension of horrors. She should be doing more than basic kinetic stuff and mind walks. I want to see her evolve and go super saiyan before this story ends. Have the other kids do their part holding off smaller threats and supporting her, but if there is to be one final big bad it should be her fight and hers alone. Go all out with her.

Also Id be fine with them taking a 3 year break so that El and the other kids are 18 in season 4.

It does feel like a good time jump is appropriate right now. And even though I love the show... this feels like a good moment to hit the pause button, story wise.

They could still technically do a time jump without delaying filming because I believe that the actors are all older than their characters are supposed to be with the exception of Will. Besides, we already had a nearly two year wait between seasons 2 and 3. I hope we don't have to wait as long for season 4. I'm guessing it'll be out October 2020 at the earliest.

Just got done with my binge of season three.

Highlights: The splintering of the main group into various sub-groups. This brought some fresh new interactions. I especially loved the Hopper/Alexei/Murray dynamic, as well as the Scoops Ahoy crew. Hopper pretty much stole the show overall and that sentimental letter he left gave me genuine feels. As always the look remained authentic to the period (that Starcourt though) and the effects will still very good.

It was definitely better than season 2, but I felt overly long and like it was just more of the same. They're over-reliant on how much people like this group of kids (willing to forgive the script flaws) and I think they're playing their hand too long within Hawkins instead of taking us deep with the Upside-Down. Three seasons in and we still know basically nothing about it. They also need to develop El's powers a bit as the telekinetic stuff began to get stale.

Yeah I don't think another two-year wait would be necessary. If they continue with the holiday theme I'm thinking Christmastime 2020 is a safe bet, or maybe Thanksgiving since it was mentioned near the end.

Just finished it. Definitely an improvement on season 2. Some great character stuff here.

Something I realized about Episode 8 (SPOILERS):

The deaths of Billy and Hopper could have been avoided had Dustin's girlfriend not made him sing the Neverending Story theme instead of just giving him the damn code up front. Now I know Billy needed that redemption death and Hopper may not actually be dead, but that doesn't convince me that Suzie isn't the greatest monster introduced on this show. :o
If there was ever a moment Erica truly needed to interject, it was that. I was waiting for it to happen, but alas.

Also does anyone like
the singing scene between Suzie and Dustin ?
Most people seem to love it but I find it really distracting and ruin the tension of the sequence.

Ok to be fair

#1. Susie is not in Hawkins so she had no idea the danger everybody was in and she wasn’t going to give the info until Dustin sang with her. To be honest I cracked up just because of seeing everybody reactions to that moment. Especilly Hopper and Joyce’s. Was it needed no not at that time but what was Dustin going to do.

Man now that was a awesome season. Definitely better than the previous seasons IMO, although I know I'm probably one of the very few that actually preferred Season 2 to Season 1. I'm really enjoying the pacing of the episodes in these past 2 seasons even though I'm someone who can definitely still appreciate a good buildup. This show just seems to be really firing on all cylinders now and love the fact this season felt like pretty much a combination of some of my favorite movies from the 80's like Terminator, The Blob and Red Dawn. I wasn't expecting that at all, but kudos to the Duffer Brothers for being able to pull it off, because it can't be that easy. The fact that they are able to make this show feel so authentic to that period is a pretty amazing achievement, especially all the attention to even the littlest details. If the next season is truly last than that's kind of sad, because I would honestly love another two or three seasons of this show, but it is what it is and at this point I'm confident that it won't disappoint.

Is next season supposed to be the last one? :csad:

I think they mentioned something about 5? But I think it's them thinking season 4 is last but 'we do 5th if Netflix lets us' kind of thinking

It's a funny scene based on the reactions of the other characters, but in hindsight it went on for too long given the amount of danger everyone was in.

I'm guessing the next season will take place in late 1986 given how the seasons have gone so far.

One episode in and I forgot just how much I love these kids and care about them. Its great to have this show back. But one thing, what the Hell happened to Hopper though? Why is he such a huge a**hole? Or was he always this way? I remember him being a little rough around the edges but still a good guy but this season, i so far, i hate this prick.
