Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

So I’m really enjoying this season but it also seems like they are wasting a bunch of time on some scenes I would rather just have heard about rather than watched in full. Everyone is too far apart but at least the groups are doing well within themselves. Hopefully they are all reunited soon.

I like the Russia stuff but at the same time, its very existence is kinda annoying to me because I very much believe Hopper should've stayed dead. Because for me personally, them just bringing him back for season 4 (especially when the ending of season 3 was so ****ing good) now loses any drama revolving around potential key characters dying.

To the point of where that was honestly at the back of my mind during all of episode 4. If Hopper stayed dead? Good God the tension in that episode would've been cataclysmic. But with that in mind, it definitely gives the feeling of plot armour for the rest of the main cast
At this point it does feel like they are reluctant to kill off main cast members (I haven’t finished yet). There was a point where it looked like one was in big trouble and I thought there was a chance.

Max being killed off by Vecna, while definitely unexpected, would have absolutely ruined the beauty of the Kate Bush scene. She was in a deep depression in previous episodes because of Billy's death, detaching herself from loved ones, and her barely escaping Vecna was supposed to signify her finally recognizing the issue and attempting to fix it, and not only just to save her own life. And it's clearly resonated with a lot of people who are struggling with depression, so I don't understand why anyone would think it would have been better if she had died.

Also, you don't always need to kill off a main character to create a sense of dread and intensity. Just putting them in peril and it having an effect on them (which this show has done well imo) works.

I don't know if it is just because it has been so long since season 3, but I really enjoyed this season so far. Eleven's storyline is much better than what they tried in season 2. This new background may have retconned that, I'm not sure (I'd need to rewatch The Lost Sister episode).

Oh yeah no, I'm absolutely not arguing that Max should've gotten killed off by Vecna that would've been a horrible choice. I'm saying that the tension in the scene would've been more pronounced if it felt like death was still a "permanent" consequence, as it were. Which unfortunately, with Hopper being resurrected, isn't really the case anymore. Now it's more just "how are they gonna write a way for them to live", knowing full well that they will. It's still a seriously a compelling scene, it's why episode 4 is my top 3 episodes of ST period. But I do think Hopper being resurrected is gonna be to the overall detriment of the show

I was responding more to Iceman's insinuation, but I get where you're coming from.

Them initially wanting these last seasons to be back-to-back makes me think all the more that season 4 is going to end in a massive cliffhanger.

Surprised by that. I really that it would.

I'm guessing that Stranger Things 5 might be the last time Netflix drops an entire season on the same day. Hopefully they don't split it up again like they did with 4.

Finally caught up. I do feel that the whole Russia bits are there to give the adult characters something to do. Just feels like filler to me. The kid parts are far and away the best bits. :)

Started binge watching this show a few days ago. Just wanted to see what all the chatter was about and I got to say, it’s been pretty entertaining. I have just 3 episodes left of season 2. Trying to finish it before the last two episodes of season 4 drop in a few weeks. I haven’t read any spoilers so it’s been good going into this blind.

hope you won’t skip after 2.07 lol

I think it was a good decision to split season 4. It’s now a very Empire strikes back situation with Nancy as prisoners of Vecna.

So Will spends the entire S03 wanting to play RPG with his friends, only for them joining an RPG club in S04.

Not to mention his forgotten birthday. :p

Poor unwanted Will.

And he is not even a member of the club.

Half way through season 3 and I feel like it kind of lost the charm of season 1 and 2. Maybe it’s because the kids are more mature/grown up.

Yeah. I thought S3 was probably the weakest. I just finished the first "volume" of S4 and it's sorta cool. S1 and 2 are definitely my favorites though. S4 branches out in an unexpected (by me) direction, but it kinda fits. I'll have to wait for July 1 to watch volume 2. It's only 2 episodes, but they are an hour and a half and two and a half hours.

The show definitely feels very different from season 3 and on but I feel like that's mostly out of necessity. The "It" style of the kids group trying to save the world only works for so long before it becomes redundant. Hence the need to introduce new cast members and overall try to change the formula quite a bit with splitting the groups up and whatnot. Season 3 grew on me a lot once it was done, honestly. Pre S4, it was my second favourite season.

Huh. Interesting. Yeah, they definitely had to change the dynamic. It had sort of that Goonies feel, with a little more of a horror aspect to it, early on.

Rewatching the season and the Nancy/Steve shipping among the characters seems so heavy-handed that I can only assume that, if the two actually do make a go of it again, they’ll quickly realize that the chemistry just isn’t there anymore and openly laugh in the faces of Dustin/Eddie/etc. for acting like it was written in the stars.

I don’t think that that will happen. More likely Steve will die, after getting back with Nancy
