Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

Well it didn't help that Jonathan really didn't have much to do in this seasons so far. I don't think he and Nancy even had a scene together.

Yeah, the season very much does feel like too many cooks in the kitchen character wise. They expanded the "roster" too much and now a lot of them have basically nothing to do. A lot of my issues with this season revolves around that. Everything with Steve and the fellow babysat crew is top tier Stranger Things, Eleven's stuff is great worldbuilding, the Mike crew is borderline filler and the Russia stuff (while good) shouldn't have been done in the first place. I honestly think it might've been better if they stuck with the standard 45 minute structure, kept all the crew together and had all of them do what the Steve crew is doing with Hopper remaining dead. As it currently stands, the runtime hasn't been justified at all. It's my one major complaint so far

I think what they are doing is setting the stage to bring this all together for the next 4 hours starting in July. Hopefully, they had to build this broad base and will bring it together. It's a dramatic shift in tone, structure, etc., but they kind of had to do something. They couldn't have continued the old formula and kept it in any way interesting.

It would be like watching Leave it to Beaver when he was like 17 and still acting like he was 6....wait, they already did that.

I do get that, but at the same time you could still do that without splitting the groups up by 4 ways to essentially give the show 4 different plots. Even if you joined the Steve/Mike crew together, that alone removes the entire filler surrounding Mike's crew.

Literally all they've done so far since the groups were established is go on a roadtrip to Utah to get Dustin's girlfriend so she can try to find El. In 5 episodes (since the groups were split off into their own plots). Meanwhile Steve's crew has basically established how to fight Vecna, Joyce and Murray have rescued Hopper and El's gone through her training arc. It's pretty obvious who drew the short end of the stick lmao

I don't disagree that they may have had better options, but, to be fair, we haven't seen the, essentially, 7 or 8 episode ending and don't know for sure how much of this is or isn't necessary. I'm curious as to where they'll leave us before the last season.

Well I’m all caught up now! Just finished season 4. It was HEAPS better than season 3, IMO. While season 3 was fun, season 4 was just way darker. I’ll admit I was wrong about this show. Earlier I had written it off as just as a kids show but it’s been pretty adult since season 3, IMO. Can’t wait until the second part of season

Also…I love Steve, Max and Robin. They’re my favorite characters.

Oh man, I had heard the hype around episode 4 and even spoiled myself a little about it, but I wasn’t prepared for that episode at all. Absolutely stunning stuff.

Levy has really grown as a director in the last decade.

Yeah. The latter 2 were great additions. S3 didn't do a lot for me until we got to s4. At that point, I appreciated it more. I really like the dynamic between Steve and Robin in particular. They made the shift in tone for all the right reasons. Cast maturity being one of them, but it flows and the growth made the show more interesting.

S3 took some time to set the stage for S4, but it worked. We don't have long to wait for volume 2 and my hope is that S4 V1 does the same for V2 that S3 did for S4.

Glad you folks liked it.

It’s amazing how a tv show can make an old song popular again.

This season has been fantastic. The more mature and horror filled atmosphere has been a breath of fresh air. Season 3 was enjoyable but relatively weak compared to S1 and S2. I'm all in on this season though. July 1st needs to hurry the hell up and get here already.

This is a small, and probably biased, sample size, but there seems to be much more unanimity on the opinions of this show and its seasons than Marvel D+ ones. :funny:

A cool behind the scenes featurette on the Prison Fight.

Is Nancy still in high school? I thought she was in the same class as Steve and Jonathan? Since she was with the school paper, I guess she still in school?

Yeah, Nancy and Robin are seniors in season 4, or Class of '86. I think Jonathan is either a senior or he graduated right before season 3 started and took a year off since he talks about going to college in season 4. Steve graduated in '85 right before season 3 started and is now apparently the Wooderson of Hawkins High, just hanging around trying to pick up girls. :o

Was I the only one who really enjoyed season 3?

Also is anyone else a bit worried for Finn Wolfhard? That kid is Skinny with a capital S.

Looking back at it, I think I liked season 3 as a whole. It was definitely fun and I saw the Duffer brothers say they were going for a “summer blockbuster” vibe which I definitely got. But the charm of seasons 1 and 2 were lost IMO but like people mentioned earlier, it was necessary since the cast is older and more mature.

I didn’t realise Nimrod Antal, Director of Predators did episodes 5 and 6.

I do feel they were a step down from Levy’s episodes though.

I liked season 3, sure, but season 4 is better. And definitely agree on Finn. If he were any thinner he could double as an anatomy skeleton in a medical class.

I wonder if they will split up season 5 in half? Like 4 episodes in each batch but make them super long like how season 4 has been.

I’m so ready. Each season is great and this show is one of my all time favorites for sure. ST4 was amazing. Can’t wait to see these final 2 episodes and then one last season!

Hopefully they end it on a real high and the best season. What are Netflix going to do replace the loss of Stranger Things once it’s gone? Not going to be easy.
