In North America, SUICIDE SQUAD scored $2.1M on Monday, $264M total.

Nice, SS is on pace to meet my predictions for an 8 million weekdays total. :woot:

I was finally going to see Suicide Squad this evening but my plans have changed with the current heat wave.:D

However, i did quickly take a look at the dutch box office numbers and was pretty astounded. After only 3 weeks SS is well on it's way to become the highest grossing comic book release of 2016! Despite the negative reviews in the press (yes, they are here too!).

Deadpool - $5,424,206
Suicide Squad - $4,544,388
Captain America - $4,388,326
BVS - $4,181,863
X-Men Apocalypse - $2,395,785

I bet some theater managers are now rueing the end of SS's IMAX run today. Ben-Hur is about to take it's place....

Let’s be very clear and push aside all of the spin and rhetoric now, the film is going to do at least $650+ million at the box office, including $295-300 million domestic. There is no rational argument that those numbers don’t constitute a big success for Suicide Squad. We can debate the impact of critical reviews and audience scores, how much it all adds up to a danger or not for the DCU going forward, and whatever other “yeah but” arguments anyone wants to offer to try to insist the DCU is in some sort of trouble, but none of that changes the financial success of this film.

Likewise, it’s also true that if Suicide Squad performed this well despite critical panning, receiving only a B+ Cinemascore (leading to an undeniably big second-weekend plummet), and without getting a China release date, then we have to wonder what sort of box office we’d be looking at if the film had gotten an A Cinemacore and perhaps a 60-70% Rotten Tomatoes score, not to mention if the press had not resorted to a stampede of one-upping “it’s the worst thing that ever happened on Earth” histrionics.

Mark Hughes shutting down all the nonsense about Suicide Squad being a failure and the DCU being in trouble.

At this point I think people would still be going "yeah but" even if the film ended up grossing one billion.

And many kind of different success's. For real, BvS and SSQUAD came up short in some respects, but there's plenty of time to get it right. Fanboys have short term memory. The moment a new JL trailer hits, the hype will explode and the casual audience will flock if interested and if marketing reflects the hype. It's just good to see them trying to right the ship.

It just means WB has dodged one today and have a successful financial return, and if they ignore the signs and misses, then future projects will get in trouble, but if they correct their mistakes, then DC will be f***ing awesome from next year.

At least the hyperbole people are silenced over their claim of "this is a flop!" "DCEU is finished!!!" since the weekend numbers came out on Monday :woot:

Bingo.

SS wiil be deemed success all things considered but not a resounding one because clearly the movie could have been much better. WB totally screwed up a few things and we all acknowledge that but I'll never lose hope because a few years ago I didn't even think that I'll ever see my favorite superheroes together on the big screen and now that it is happening for real, I know I'll fully support them. I love what I've seen in the the DCEU so far but I really want them to improve a lot because there is huge potential and I genuinely believe that having Geoff Johns and Jon Berg in control augurs well for the future of the DCEU.

Thankfully it's not. That would be one of the most undeserved billion dollar cumes ever.

Financial failure it ain't, but there are many different kinds of failures.

Yes, most of those other kinds of failure are completely subjective and are very much a mixed/critics-against-a-lot-of-fans-and-average-movie-goers response so clearly they didn't flop/fail completely in the other areas either as there are enough people interested and liking it to propel it to $650+ million.

I'm glad WB and DCEU are doing well financially.

I'd like to think the message being sent by both BVS/SS is that thier is an audience for the DCEU, but these movies aren't reaching thier full BoxOffice potential

Imagine how much more money SS with a Guardians level WOM could have made

I don't think it would have reached a billion but if the movie had done well critically I think it could have easily reached $800M-$850M without China.

Soooo...just had a quick look at the dailies comparing to GOTG, I'm guessing around 11.8M this weekend, 283-284M by end of Sunday, Labor weekend next so weekends of rough guess 7+3++2+1+1=14M, and weekdays of 4+2+1+1+1=9M, so 23M+283=306M+

Some BOT people are guessing as high as 320M, saying SS is running like Bourne Ultimatum so will have another 50M or something. But I'm guessing 306M and 310M would be "like magic" (Margot Robbie voice)

Overseas guessing around 380M+ so WB is probably thinking how they can milk 700M out of this...

Initially I thought that 11 million would be an easy bet this weekend but now I'm thinking somewhere around 9.5-10 million.

Also, came across this on Facebook.

Suicide Squad could lose the first place in American box office this weekend. Or maybe not.

The premiere of the film of suspense "Don't breathe", according to preliminary estimates, could overthrow the suicide squad in the first place of collection in the United States. It is hoped that the new movie raise between 11 and 14 million dollars in its first weekend, according to the Hollywood reporter.

However, the estimates can be wrong. Suicide squad has raised $ 4.7 million between Monday and Tuesday for a total of 267,2 million in domestic box office. If you "Don't breathe" raises a lot less than the estimate, suicide squad could be in advantage and stay in the first place for the fourth weekend in a row. Estimates Indicate as variety that can raise $ 10 million this weekend.

Another movie that will be released is "Mechanic: Resurrection", sequel to 'The Mechanic', with projections to raise between 6 AND 8 million dollars.

Also premiering the movies " Hands of stone ", " Jigoku or high water " and " Southside with you ", with estimates of less than 3 million in revenue.

This means that the battle for first place is between 'Don't breathe' and 'Suicide Squad'.

Not putting much stock into the top spot thing but if SS can collect 10 million this weekend, that will be really impressive. :woot:

I don't think any DCEU movie has been a failure so far just a disappointment. You can go into a exam wanting 90% but end up getting 60%. You passed, but you can still be disappointed, this was definitely the case for BvS.

But I think WB will be pretty happy about Squad's performance, especially if it manages to cross $300mil domestic. It was a mid tier franchise, no one knew what to expect. But it made more then X-Men Apocalypse's entire domestic run in it's first week. But now some people basically trying to say it is billion or bust, talk about moving the goal posts. Seems like we will get this sort of mentality for every DCEU movie.

Anyway Don't Breathe looks great and is getting good reviews, so it will be mighty impressive if SS hangs onto top spot for the 4th week in a row.

Nice analogy.

If anyone asked me in January which movie will make more money, Suicide Squad or X-Men: Apocalypse, I would have said X-M:A.

SS making this much money is unexpected surprise, it's no small feat.

Indeed, some are looking to every excuse available to paint it as a "financial failure".

I think that speaks more ill about Apocalypse than positive for SS.
