Woah,it went over $350M in the foreign market already? That was unexpected.Okay,so it looks like it will make around $305-310M in the domestic and around $390M intenationally.
So a total of around ~$700M.

To get to $700M without China,is huge feat and a pretty big achievement for SS and is totally a win.Without naming names and starting unnecessary fights,it would be as good/better than a lot of other movies out there financially.WB should totally greenlight the sequel because the movie is about to make $100M more than its break-even value.

Suicide Squad 2 and Harley Quinn should be happening by next year.
Maybe change Katana's costume for the sequel too :)

Even if we dont get both,we will surely get either SS2/Harley spinoff. For SS2 I would love to see new characters like King Shark,Death Stroke,Bane etc.

636 would be officially past DofP without china, given how celebrated that films success and it's budget, SS is in solid company. Plenty of films have been mentioned in these threads during the interim, fights will happen between those who want to fight regardless.

I cannot believe we are now talking about this possibly hitting $700M. I mean, wow. I think a lot,of us were wary if it would even cross 600 when this thing launchrd with the negative reviews. This is definitely demonstrating that our foreign friends REALLY like this movie. :)

If WB gets their act together with the sequel, we could be looking at $1B for SS2.

Any update about the WB ready to sell DC properties?
LOL

I am sure that at WB they are looking for other "financial failures" like this

Exactly. For a Suicide Squad movie with such negative reviews,I was worried it would even hit $600M.The fact that its doing so well, I think is a testament to the fact that despite being quite flawed, its a pretty fun movie at the end of the day. That reels in the audience I think.

Well, SS is going to end up being a far more profitable venture than BvS, so that counts as a win for WB, right?

Mark Hughes is surely going out of his way to deserve that DC cheerleader uniform.

Seems like a big 'cheerleader' for alot of cbms besides dc these days.

However he has a few tweets on why he's spent the energy he has on SS, mainly to do with the amount of people that are going out of their way above and beyond to paint failure.

Mark Hughes is surely going out of his way to deserve that DC cheerleader uniform.

As Hughes clarified yesterday, its simply because someone needs to report the positive news, that SS is doing well in the BO,that the rest of the media(majority) is refusing to do.While the media went out of its way to report every negative detail about SS(negativity sells=more clicks),when the positive news came around, they became silent.Granted there were some negatives(second weekend drop was too much etc),but there needs to be uniformity while reporting. As someone needed to do it,he did.To claim he is a dc-cheerleader is a)Deflamatory ; b)Simply untrue.

Hughes has went out of his way to defend and praise Marvel/X-Men movies before, when they deserves it (CW,Deadpool etc).

They are not going to be able to rely on those massive opening week ends forever if they keep releasing poorly received outings.

Well to be fair, even if you subtract around $30-40M from SS's opening weekend(which gives it a opening weekend around $90-100M which is more in line with expectations),it still would make around $660-670M global w/o China(considering it makes ~700M global). And thats quite good.So its not just down to opening weekend for Suicide Squad.

The day the massive opening weekends stop is the day the focus on the second weekend drops will stop. They'll just be normal cbms at that point.
I'm curious to see how things go when dceu stops battling critics, should make for in interesting second weekend.

That's not how it works. You cannot arbitrarily substract money from opening week end and guess that it wouldn't affect the rest of the movie's run. 30/40 millions less during opening week end translates in a much bigger loss at the end of the movie's run, especially when your success isn't built on strong word of mouth.

90-100m would still be right around what GOTG did in August OW
So subtract that value from suicide squad you wouldn't have enough for a 300m DOM (which I guess would effect the overall profit)
Otherwise you are looking at the same numbers imo
Domestic does not really correlate to foreign gross

Well that depends.Honestly none of us know how it will fare out when opening weekends are altered(I mean I can make a case for that if interest because of marketing wasnt so hign, people would have gone out to theatres not in a lump in the opening weekend, but rather spaced out). But thats saying something neither of us have any proof.

But what we can say since SS is doing so well in BO,it cant be said anymore it isnt built on good word of mouth.I mean it will end up with a similar domestic multiplier to CA:CW(which had much higher ratings+goodwill but had more competion). So I cant agree that SS had poor WOM.

All this if and buts are pointless anyway, the bottomline is it made a lot of money,a lot more than expected,an DC/WB are going to make a sizable profit.Thats a win at the end of the day for DCEU however you look at it.

But the thing is, the strong legs this is showing is demonstrating that there must a be a solid word of mouth out there to carry it. Otherwise we probably wouldn't even be looking at $600M. As messy as this film is, I think a lot of the audience genuinely enjoyed this movie enough to see it again.

Yep.Exactly.

For any moderators out there (or any experienced user in the know) can anyone explain to me how a user's post (several posts) is/are deleted? If I have posted something that is contrary to policy, can someone explain to me what it was? Also, if I have posted something that goes against policy (and subsequently resulting in being censored) how can some other user's post in reply to mine also be deleted? Why should they be punished? Geez.... it feels like I'm in the Twilight Zone.

He said yesterday that the only reason he's doing it is because other media outlets keep posting false information and spreading it like it's the truth.

Yeah this is the most encouraging thing and it is playing better to some demographics then BvS did: young people, minorities and females. I hope WB can take the lessons learned from this film going forward.

Because there is certainly public interest in these characters, even those that are't your top tier Batman or Superman, and audiences seem to be slowly wrapping their heads around a separate DC cinematic universe existing.
