Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

Sucks that Hardy is out, but Jake is a fine replacement. It would have been worse if Leto decided to leave.

I'd be in a tailspin right now.

As great as Jake is, I'd rather he got a main role in a superhero movie as the lead

To be fair, Rick Flagg is the field leader of the Suicide Squad and if he were cast, the main dynamic of the film would be his Flagg and Smith's Deadshot.

People drop out of films all the time but I know this is going to be spun into something more because of the DC/WB bias.
The very quick news of an impressive replacement should allay that, although some of the usual suspects will nevertheless indulge themselves.

Hmm... A few years back, I can see Gylenhaall accepting this without batting an eyelash but now that his career is back on track, I can see him rejecting this in favor of a bigger role in the future.

If Jake is allowed to be a little weird he will do fine if he does in fact replace Hardy. I love Hardy so it totally blows that we lost him.

I've said this for a while that Gyllenhaal should reunite with his boy David Ayer. I am hoping this is it....

If WB locks Gyllenhaal in the loss of Hardy won't be an issue as far as I'm concerned.

Jake Gyllenhaal's sister was Rachel Dawes and his brother in-law was Hector Hammond.

Keeping those DC roles in the family.

Jake Gyllenhaal in talks to replace him

Well, that's not bad. I was afraid it would be some half-assed last minute choice. Like Worthington. :o

I don't mind this. At all.

I love me some Tom Hardy, but I really didn't think he was the best choice for Rick Flagg.

Deadshot and Slade Wilson? Hell yeah.

Flagg? Eh.

And as far as Gyllenhaal goes, he's a great choice. I'm sure he'll fill in well.

Yep, I agree. Talent wise (on who's better) is arguable but if we're just talking about status, it's actually an upgrade. Kind of like how Scarlett Johansson took the Ghost in the Shell role after Robbie passed.

Something is telling me Jake won't do it but I could be wrong. He has worked with Ayer before.

A more than adequate replacement if Jake takes it. He's been on a heck of a role lately with his perforamnces.

Oh for God's sake...we lost Hardy?!? :csad:

They'll seriously need to find one hell of an actor to replace him. I'd be fine with Gyllenhaal, but It'll be shocking if he agrees to it.

He's seems in a pretty great place right now acting wise, and imo, the only times he hasn't been great are the Day After Tomorrow and Prince of Persie, ie big blockbuster films.

I agree I doubt it's likely, he'd do it

If Jake turns it down then I wouldn't mind seeing any of these actors David Ayer has directed before get the role.

Jon Bernthal
Josh Holloway
Sam Worthington

I think any of those three could also make a solid Rick Flagg.

I would class them in the same league as Gyllenhaal or Hardy but they would be good enough

Worthington really?

To be honest, I was disappointed when Hardy was cast as Rick Flag I always thought he should have been someone better, no offense to Flag fans. So I'm not massively upset, agreed losing Leto would have been far worse, but losing Smith or Courtney could be far better.
