I don't think Sam Worthington is a great actor but Rick Flagg jr is hardly Othello. I don't think the character is outside of his abilities.

Anyway this is all hypothetical as these were just back up suggestions. I hope Gyllenhaal takes the role.

Gyllenhaal is reportedly still muscled up from filming Southpaw, so he's already in shape for a superhero action pic. Edit: Scratch that. I misread the report. He put on muscle for Southpaw, but he's filmed two other movies since then.

If Jake turns it down then I wouldn't mind seeing any of these actors David Ayer has directed before get the role.

I think any of those three could also make a solid Rick Flagg.

I would class them in the same league as Gyllenhaal or Hardy but they would be good enough

Jon Bernthal I'd be fine with. I wouldn't mind Dan Stevens if they can't land a bigger name.

My problem with Smith,
a) let's be honest he ain't going to wear a mask, or at least i will be incredibly shocked if he does.
b) he gets people to change his lines for him to make his characters cooler, funnier, more likeable
c) He rejected Django Unchained because he didn't feel Django was the star of the film, so I fear he will just to a massive takeover of the film

Also curious apart from Hancock when has he played a ******* ?

Never thought Hardy was a great fit for Flagg, so no biggie.

Don't see Jake taking the role, however. I'm a fan of his (even backed him for Batman before Affleck was announced), but the character seems pretty vanilla and doesn't seem like something he'd tackle.

No Worthington or Holloway. Worthington can't do an American accent to save his life and after watching Sabotage, I'm convinced he'll never improve as an actor. He's hit his ceiling, which is acting ability somewhere between a kid in a high school play and a reasonably decent community theater actor.

Holloway is okay but he's really only been memorable in one role. In action films, he's pretty much been relegated to "the guy who gets killed first." I don't think he has leading man charisma, at least not on film (though admittedly I didn't see his possibly Oscar-worthy turn in Battle of the Year).

Other actors they could consider...

Philip Winchester. Looks like the spitting image of Rick Flag and/or any comic book superhero/secret agent type. And as anyone who has seen Strike Back knows, he can play this type of role in his sleep. Is it typecasting? Probably. But so what? He'd be perfect.

Dan Stevens was brilliant in The Guest, so if he landed this role, that'd be amazing.

But they'll probably go with a bigger name. Gosling would rock, but it would never happen. Just not anyone off of Hollywood's Let's Shove These Guys Down Your Throat list (Taylor Kitsch, Armie Hammer, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Lautner, Channing Tatum).

When word leaks to Variety, THR, Deadline or the Wrap that an actor is in talks for a role it usually means it's pretty much a done deal. Things will fall through occasionally, but not all that often. It'll probably be Gyllenhaal.

Yeah he would. No Jason Clarke though. I could see him getting considered for this but I don't think he'd be a good fit.
