Reactions from reddit (from 2 different posters):
"I saw SS a little while ago. It's significantly better than BvS and X-Men. It's objectively a better movie than Deadpool, but Deadpool was more fun. Civil War was better.
I'm not saying that Civil War is better to be mean to SS, I'm just saying it because I got burned by early reviews saying "BvS IS THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!!!!" and would've appreciated honesty, you know?
It's an excellent movie. It tells a very straightforward story with an amazing cast. You will like every single member of the Squad, with Harley (obviously) stealing the show. She's a star and everyone will love her. This is the type of movie that demands a sequel.
I'm sure critics will find ways to hate it (it's basically a gritty action movie with comic book characters and a Hot Topic aesthetic, which honestly might turn critics off), but DC fans will like it. The BIG thing is that the movie literally saves DCEU Batman. This Batman is BTAS personified.
David Ayer understands Batman on a fundamental level I think. It's hard to explain without spoilers, but Batman delivers justice in a sympathetic manner instead of just blowing up criminals. He locks criminals up, but he understands and cares about them at the same time.
Eh, there were 2 characters I didn't like. Felt nothing towards them and when they had that so called emotional scene at the end, nothing. The villain was a big disappointment considering how fresh the idea I thought it was. I still thought it was a very good movie.
The villain definitely didn't work. But nobody will be seeing the movie for the villain anyway, haha
The flashbacks sort of set the table for the rest of the movie. The movie would fall apart without them.
SS's saving grace is that it won't be polarizing. It's a crowd pleaser. I'm just not sure if the critics will get over their grudge against BvS so soon. SS is very much a sequel to BvS (not a spoiler, it was in the latest trailer) and unfortunately critics might take their hatred for BvS out on SS.
SS was very fun. Surprisingly fun. The characters laugh and smile throughout the entire movie, and there's no depressing moral dilemmas like the ones Superman faces (there's one exception, but it's spoilery and not significant to this conversation). I had a smile on my face when the credits rolled and people cheered afterwards.
Buuuuut the movie is still unapologetically dour and gritty. This is the post-Superman and pre-Justice League period where the world is dark and uncertain. It's the entire premise of Task Force X forming (this was in previous trailers).
Maybe a 7.5. Keep in mind I'm not one of those people who rate all movies 9's and 10. This is an unfinished cut. There was lots that I really liked, good action, pacing (for the most part). But as I've said there were 2 characters who had a decent sized role in the plot/story that did not connect with me. I could care less about them. They tried for an emotional scene and yea...didn't work. But yes, walking out, I've heard a few people raving about it, and a few just good/pretty good. The person I was sitting next to came with his family and he didn't even know the movie after they announced it (older guy) and he said it was ok. I didn't stick around to hear if anyone had anything bad to say."
