Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - - - Part 20

If SS feels like a sequel to BvS and Batman is better. That means that the ending of BvS was a clear sign that Batman will change in future films. That was the plan all along. No reason to pile on Snyder.
I'm not piling anything on Snyder. There are other people for that.
Yea...Civil War does seem almost "too polished" and sort of safe in a way that has made it not as rewatchable to me.
The next Marvel film I'm going to watch in a theater is when they bring She-Hulk on the big screen. Means, probably never. Their movies are just too good. I can't handle it.

....The BIG thing is that the movie literally saves DCEU Batman. This Batman is BTAS personified.

David Ayer understands Batman on a fundamental level I think. It's hard to explain without spoilers, but Batman delivers justice in a sympathetic manner instead of just blowing up criminals. He locks criminals up, but he understands and cares about them at the same time..

I am glad to hear that. If that makes the entire Batman fandom happy, then brilliant.

But in Snyder's defense, there is difference between understanding a character at a fundamental level AND tweaking the character for the purpose of the story. If Batman is mis characterized, why is the whole deal about the change in the end even in the movie. Why would Batman feel he "failed". If he failed, then he admits he failed as Batman. I can understand some of the criticisms against Snyder but others...I just shake my head.

In any case, I am glad Batman is BACK. He is back, girls and boys!

The thing I am looking forward to the most in this movie is Batman and I am glad to hear it is almost a sequel to BvS and that what Batman is in this movie reflects the change at the end of BvS. It was one of the things I was worried about post BvS. I wanted to see a change in Batman, back to form, in Justice League. Looks like we are getting it in Suicide Squad and it is only 2 months away.

Well this is the result of DC's backwards way of building its universe.

Marvel films sort of gave us true comic book characterizations and then in later films they were allowed to evolve or change.

In the DCEU we had Superman only be Superman for a couple of days. Then still trying to find his way. A Batman thats already had 20 years of work, but we never got to see. Then have to accept that he's changed man at the beginning and then a changed man at the end.

I think future DCEU films will make BvS look better in time. It seems like David Ayer was right about how connected these films are and it will supposedly show in Wonder Woman as well.

Its not the disaster people make it out to be.

Yeah I am starting to think DCEU films will be super effective when watched as a marathon!

I can understand if people don't like this method but I am enjoying the "reverse building" approach so far.

You guys do have to realize that it's a test screening, meaning that they'll take the surveys, look over what didn't work and try to fix it. I expect Ayer to add about 15-20 mins of footage to the cut.

I do believe that critics will give SS the benefit of a doubt if the movie is "fun" like the reactions have said since the general consensus is that the DCEU is too dark, depressing and no fun.

Can they do that in 2 months?

Pretty sure there's film that they've shot that they cut which could help the movie and i'm sure there's things that don't need to be in the movie that can be cut (Actually read one). Plus a poster said that she doesn't think that the reshoots were added because she was told that the movie was incomplete

I hope they don't change the movie in a I Am Legend kind of way from the crowd reactions.

Yea it being fun should give it some benefit.

Well we'll know for sure when they release the run time. If its still 1hr 50 mins...that means the test audience saw as close to the finished product as possible.

If they didn't add the extra footage from the reshoots, then the theatrical release should be a little longer.

wow... I forgot about that. Yea, I loved the original ending.

I think I would have liked if they combined the two.

[BLACKOUT]Will Smith discover that they were trying to get the person he took from them back. But also have him volunteer to be sacrificed/eaten in order to protect the woman and child.[/BLACKOUT]

Depends what they meant by 'incomplete'. Price's score, sound mix, CGI, color grading... I think they were reshooting during late March / early April so quite sure they were able to add new footage. Mainly if they decided to make changes to third act months ago it would make sense to test new footage now.

Memento Cinematic Universe. Well, Man of Steel was definitely improved in my eyes when it became connected to Batman v Superman. I bet Suicide Squad will add to it too. As it tells about gov.'s actions and Batman post Superman's death. Nice bridge between Batman v Superman and Justice League. I don't know if Wonder Woman will have any footage after Superman's death, but even without that it should bring her own story to the point where she meets Bruce Wayne.

I agree as well. Man of Steel improved after seeing BvS (no troll)

There is less Superman in BvS. So that was a problem for me. But I feel if you watch both films back to back you get a real sense of Clark's journey and that makes the ending sadder.

It didn't do it for me just watching BvS by itself. So that's a problem with the film as is presented. However, MOS beforehand certainly helps make it resonate.

Agree. It's one journey being split in two films. Connection feels much stronger, than between Star Wars films or Nolan trilogy. When at first we see Superman's side, but then we switch to Luthor and Batman. With epic finale. I'm certainaly going to do a marathon of both films, when BvS arrives on home media.

Thats why I miss Nolan. Yes, he built a trilogy... yet each film can easily be watched separately and have a cohesive and wonderful story/film.

Got some pretty spoilerish info fro the guy who was supposedly at the test screening:
I asked him about Boomerang. He said he wasn't actually that involved in the movie, but there was involved in one scene involving another DCEU character which he surprised hasn't been leaked yet

There's a dedicated spoiler thread. Just to minimize the risk of somebody accidentally reading spoilers.
