I refuse to go to another late showing pg-13 movie. The teenagers drive me up the wall.

Oh my god It's finally happened, I'm a boring adult! :wow:
I was lucky with most of my showings. No annoying teenagers or crying babies.

Though, most recently there were two teenage girls who wouldn't shut up during Finding Dory.

The things I would do to see the two versions that were screened a few months ago...

Yeah I'm curious what changes were made. Has anyone who saw both versions compiled a list of changes?

I think its more pleasing to the fans specifically than BVS because it stays true to the characters that everyone loves. But on a movie making level, total mess. Which is SUCH a shame because I could literally SEE it all right there in front of me. Which makes it all the more frustrating.

As irritating as that is, the first part of your comment is good to hear. In my opinion the DCEU thus far has lacked fidelity to the spirit of the source material, so that's a small step in the right direction.

The jury is still out on Leto's Joker. From what I saw, his mannerism's were about as Joker-like as you could get, but as much as Joker was used as a minimum, Leto gave me more than enough to chew on to satisfy me. The scene where Harley is dancing in that club just reeked of fear. This Joker is a dangerous MOFO and there's no telling what's coming next.

Talking about this a week or two back on here, this is what I am afraid of. Snow mentioned that from the footage he felt like a drama student in high school.
I didn't love Leto as an actor but I thought that he was going to be very good. I think some dislike the performance more than I do.

Critics went in with disillusioned expectations; Audiences won't.

Excited to see this tomorrow.

Pretty much this. Still not sure why critics went ballistic... It was what it was... an entertaining summer popcorn movie.

I think so, but Ledger's dark anarchist is the freshest on people's minds and one of the best performances in cinematic history. So I can understand why some folks might have trouble acclimating.

Max Landis, yea I know, brought up some interesting points about the Joker.

Playing the Joker is on its surface ridiculously easy:
1 - Is homicidal
2 - Laughs a lot
3 - dgaf
4 - makes jokes

Those are his four characteristics. But building those out into a grounded performance is so hard Romero and Nicholson didn't even try.

Joker became a real character (anarchist who thinks everyone is secretly Joker) in The Killing Joke.

Leto will be interesting to watch; despite all appearances, he seems like the most "Comic Book" version of the Joker to appear in a film.

Then he basically said we'll see if that actually works or not. Since Leto's Joker is more comic book like from many years ago.

I can tell you why. You can see the huge tonal shift at the drop of a pin, worse than BVS TC editing, and horribly uneven pacing. I think it would have been a huge hit with the critics if it hadn't been meddled with so much when WB went into panic mode.

Went to Lights Out premier and it was the worst I've ever been to. A girl in front of me was taking selfies with her flash on right in front of me. I was just sitting there with my mouth gaped in shock that she would do that but mostly in shock that no one around her bothered to tell her to please stop it.

Other than that the ENTIRE theater was all talking audibly as if it were like a cafeteria. I looked over to my wife and she had the same dumb founded look on her face. Later we both swore an oath to hate teenagers forever.......like Ivan Ooze

Agreed, and if you think about it, much of what we saw of him in the film (ultimately very little) was like it was from Harley's perspective, from their experiences together. We hardly got anything of Joker alone causing mayhem, which is probably why some people are oddly complaining about him being "nothing like The Joker".

I feel like Ayer initially wanted to make this some sort of super-powered Sicario set in the DC universe. But these tonal shifts just killed the film, man. Having better music alone would've changed a lot of critics opinions for sure - this film is loud, droning and cacophonous at times. Not to mention this should've been a much more intimate and smaller film, would've helped those outrageous reshoot disputes.

Initial thoughts, fresh from the theatre: this was the best of the 3 dc movieverse movies so far (though that's not necessarily saying much since I thought MoS was just okay and BvS was terrible). It had its issues but not enough to make the movie suck. After seeing this I'm looking forward to more non-Snyder directed dc flicks.

I enjoyed the movie. Sometimes it felt a little off in pacing, the villain wasn't that great. Kind of a bummer in that aspect. But I do love the Squad. Margot killed it as Harley Quinn. I actually enjoyed what little of Jared Leto's Joker we got. I get why people have complaints about this movie, but meh. It could have been better. But I still had fun watching it.

Maybe they will a release a "Haha" Ultimate editition on blu ray. :P

I disagree. There's plenty of value in Suicide Squad. I was impressed with some of the things they actually set up that I was refreshingly surprised at. Are there some things that are downright useless? Yes, but it's misleading to those who haven't seen to say there's nothing of value. I think there's plenty of that.

I thought there were alot of really great ideas in the film, but that's all they were, neat ideas. I just feel like they weren't presented well. That said, I'm glad you found some genuine enjoyment out of it.

I went into this kind of annoyed of the studio pulling out Leto's parts, but in the context of this film, it actually worked for me to my surprise. I think the timing of his scenes were great and the thought of him being more of a background character in the entire film made his presence even more creepy to me that made me more excited to see a full length feature one day of his Joker. What I loved about it is that this was HARLEY'S time and Ayer proved that point quite early. This film could afford that since I couldn't stop smiling from ear to ear once Margot was on screen. She was a delight in the role.

Also, Will Smith's Deadshot was phenomenal and Smith brought what was neccasary for the DCEU to strive. It was HIS Deadshot that made me excited for a potential showdown with Batfleck, NOT the same 'ol; same 'ol Joker setup. Again, a refreshing realization in the movie. Batflecks scene with Deadshot was like licking icing out of the container. So good.

That gets me excited.

There were rumors of a The Good, Bad, Ugly type Batman film from Latino Review last December.

Be interesting if they do it. Since Deadshot would be the "Tuco" role.

Oh god I know. If you replaced all of the soundtrack songs with Steven Price's admittedly great score, it would've fixed a lot of tonal issues right off the bat. The only one I felt that fit in context was Bohemian Rhapsody. And Heathens over the credits.

If nothing else, it seems like they have another group of characters worth exploring, even if this movie didn't work out. Just like with Cavill Clark, Amy's Lois, Gal's Diana, Batfleck and my new favorite Alfred.

Where were the tonal shifts so bad? How was this any different than the tonal shifts in GotG? Seriously... I'll wait for a well reasoned argument because to me, the tone felt IDENTICAL to that of GotG, which went from serious to joking around quite often.

I'll agree with you on the uneven pacing - at times it felt 'off', but so did the pacing in every single CBM made this year, other than Deadpool.

That gets me excited.

Prehaps batman can struggle with the decision of killing the joker and deadshot can make the idea of killing your enemies a tantalizing one.

I can't imagine Deadshot as Tuco-like.

Exactly. To me, it felt like Harley was the emphasis in everything the Joker was about in SSQUAD and with that, came an entirely different take on the character himself; something we've never seen before regarding Joker. There's two things that sold me: 1.) Their relationship is unpredictable and #2) The flat-out crazy is something that is a major impact on their characters. You can just feel the intensity and tension when they are onscreen together. That's important if this DCEU is going to use them as duo.

Is it true that the [BLACKOUT]Joker actually likes Harley here[/BLACKOUT]? That just feels so different.

before i lay me down to sleep and pray the incubus my soul to keep, i'm sending out a virtual dap to deadstroke for pasting in all the pertinent squad tweets from today. appreciate the effort, my man
