I hadn't even considered sunk costs. There is so much material that was shot and not used that they effectively lost tens of millions of dollars on those scenes.

227 hours of footage would be farcically high. Can't be true.

If it is, they should cut together Leto's Joker movie, throw 10 million at it and put it out at Xmas as a surprise movie :)

Kinnaman when he entered the editing room

I love how hyper-sexualized he is compered to Ledgers rather asexual Joker.

Mad Love mini movie. Make it happen WB. Don't be a bunch of pu**ies.

My favorite was the scene of him extorting the prison guard, specifically when he held his ring out for him to kiss then he got all giddy when he did it

"I can tell you meant that!"

Which now I'm getting mad it wasn't followed by the brilliant "I can't wait to show you my toys" line. Now WHHHHHHY would you cut that? Seriously?!

Too nasty. That's not the cuddly, lovesick Joker they wanted to present.

I wasn't necessarily thinking about that number, just looking at the list of what was cut.

Keep in mind, those hours probably include multiple takes, goofs and the like.

Doesn't even have to be that long, 135 minutes would of still been perfectly digestible for general audiences and you can squeeze a fair chunk of stuff in an extra 15-16 minutes.

Mine would be "I love this guy, he's soooooo INTENSE" in the club scene.

Oh yeah, I was directly referencing the article, rather than your point. They're extrapolating too much for the story there, I think. Regardless, it's plain that vastly more good material was filmed than was used!

I had no issue with Kinnaman either for the most part.

But like you said katana just shows up out of no where. She and boomerang could have easily been cut from the movie. They don't end up adding anything to the story.

Eh, I thought Boomerang at least added a lot of humor in his scenes, so much so that I wish they didn't take an hour or so before introducing him. Katana though... yeah, she was basically just there to provide a magic sword. Her involvement was so random and didn't make any sense. A decorated military commander takes a samurai warrior along with him routinely on missions? WTF? It might have made more sense if she was one of his contacts when performing missions in Japan, but he indicated that she goes everywhere with him.

While I think the chances are slim....there has been second versions of movies, with large amounts of previously unused footage added back in) released after the theatrical run is over. So there is always the possibility of this happening with SS. We just recently saw a new expanded version of BvS released with 30 minutes of new material. Peter Jackson did the same with the 6 movies comprising the HOBBIT and the LORD OF THE RINGS as well as his version of KING KONG. There has also been SUPERMAN II: the Donner Cut and an extended version of David Lynch's DUNE (although he had his name removed from it because he did not approve them doing it).

I think based on Ayer's comments, though, if an alternate cut does come out, it will be put together by the studio and not him. It seems like Ayer is just ready to move on with his life.

Yup,
If we don't get it on home release day, I think we will eventually get some kind of extended cut regardless. Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember there being a span of time that passed between Watchmens directors cut and the Ultimate cut releases.
Either way they HAVE TO put those extras on the bluray, wouldn't make sense for them not to be there as a selling point.

Youre so right, and I hope that doesn't mean he won't be returning for SS2. Chin up Ayer

Anyone else disappointed by how short the car chase was? I really expected some cool Batmobile chase like the one in BvS and in the end we only got around 20 seconds of fast edits and a cut between Batman ejecting from the Batmobile and then suddenly appearing on the roof of the Lambo.

I just feel like there should have been more to that scene then what we saw. And considering how short it was, they really shouldn't have shown it in the trailers and spots, as they basically revealed around 70% of the scene in those.

A couple shots from the trailers of the chase that I don't remember being in the movie.

I believe the actual chase was always supposed to be this short, but they cut out a pretty big portion of Joker and Harley in the car, which was supposed to be the aftermath of the club scene. In this cut, the "Yeah, Puddin. Do it!" line doesn't even make sense. Do what? Drive straight ahead?

Second weekend drop over 65% = extended cut.

There will be some deleted material on the Blu-ray, which undermines an extended cut. You either release a full cut, or you release the deleted scenes separately. They still have time to figure it out considering the home media release is months away.

I don't remember the specifics, but I think it was between 6 months to a year after the theatrical version was released before they put out the director's cut. Also...the director's cut for Affleck's DAREDEVIL (30 minutes of extra footage that changed the perception of the movie) came out over a year after the theatrical version was released.

I think this situation is different because the DCEU is moving at such breakneck speed that they have to close each chapter before the next movie comes out. The BvS Ultimate Cut closed that chapter, they should decide what to do with SS before Wonder Woman comes out.

One of these days Ben Affleck might be in a superhero movie that doesn't need a second cut released after the fact that's too late to matter, to make it palatable.

Ayer decided to adopt the "for the fans" thing... deliver on it and give us what we want.

The point being, I believe, is that the WB were planning from the outset to release two different versions of BvS (one theatrical, one extended) but they haven't acted this way about SS. They may in the future decide to release an extended cut but they don't seem to have planned to from the beginning.

If we're lucky to get a sequel, they really should just adapt Assault on Arkham.

Assault on Arkham was a dumb mission too when you think about it. Its more small and intimate but you don't need the suicide squad to break into prison and kill the Riddler. That's not even a suicide mission that's like Ocean's 11 extreme

You had to cut scenes to make room for that long 3rd act action sequence where the entire squad fights enchantress hand to hand.
I wasn't a fan of that but then again how would you have ended the fight with the villain in this movie.

I mean this movie had the biggest threat to the DCEU
Superman is dead so he's out
Batman is off gathering the JL
WW is???

So who was left Flash? Yeah throw in one more cameo of the Flash where he weakens enchantress and then has to leave for whatever reason to let the squad finish her off.
