just proves how directionless they really are.

The direction is there. It's just a matter of presenting it to a wider audience. People are accusing WB of "misfiring" their Universe but its's all coming from the fan serving backlash of hyperbole and angst that it's forcing WB's hand to try to please everybody and make a more crowd pleasing film for General Audience goers. They can REALLY learn a thing or two about BvS and SSQuad. It's good to see over the months that the effort is strong and the people involved are willing to get this thing right, even if it takes misfires in the process. The weird thing is, within these misfires, are GREAT movies. They are doing many things right ontop of getting in their own way. It's a weird mixture of things.

Why they make so many cuts?

Greed. Rather than create a film to the best of their ability and let the chips fall where they may, the goal was always to make as much box office dollars as humanly possible. So, they simply churned out multiple versions for test audiences to gauge which one has the highest probability of commercial profit.

That always cracks me up when disgruntled fans call out a a movie studio for being greedy. Lol. There's a lot of things things that play a part in the cooperate world and greed has a lot to do with it. Having Spider-Man in Civil War was a move to make Civil War more money on the outskirts of what it was always destined to make. They simply wanted more. It shouldn't be something to call out on. In this case, WB was in the process at putting the best product out there TO make money. It's a double edged sword. It's nothing new.

What if one test screening was BvS TC "quality" and the other test screening was BvS UE "quality".

And in the end we got **** by a test screening. lol

Just stating the facts -- that's all. Some folks aren't aware of what goes on behind the scenes.

As for being disgruntled, I'm only mildly disappointed with the final product. I liked some of the more iconographic aspects of the film as well as some of the character performances, but the script in general was a total letdown.

Release them all :o

Agreed.

I liked the characters, the performances, the moments where the characters interacted with each other but the story and the direction of story was not good.

WB need to rethink the whole "Test audiences strategy". It's not working.

Double standard at its absolute finest.

buhahaha, so Ayer just came out and said that he consideres his movie to be 'punk'. Are you ****ing kidding me?!?!?!?!:whatever:

so I guess 'Suicide Squad' was strategically bad. - We all got it wrong. The movie is anarcho-punk! :whatever:

better be quiet, Ayer. :whatever: Nothing you say will make this horrible movie any better.

To play Devil's advocate, I could...MAYBE see where the test audiences were coming from if the first half hour or so was just character introductions but no forward plot development. In that sense i could imagine someone going "ok. Where is all this going and why do I care about each of these people?"

To my knowledge, only MOS and SS had test screenings. BvS didn't

I just think the movie needed to be longer. The first act was great. The 2nd act was too fast and the third act was too slow. Seemed like we were missing some things.

While a strictly chronological edit could be interesting, I liked the Belle Reeve start he mentions was in the original script.

Ultimately I did not mind the dosier opening, but FAR too much appears to have been sacrificed for it. Namely June Moone's origin, and actually setting up her and Flag's story. That was completely neutered in the final film, and it REALLY kills the film as a whole, as the whole villain plot, completely falls flat.

Similarly, they cut FAR too much Joker as a result. There's no reason they could not have still done the dosier stuff, WITHOUT completely sacrificing the rest of the film.

From what I've read so far, probably would have been best to have started with June Moon, like in the novelization. Then move the Belle Reeve, with the inmates, and their flashbacks. OR, could have jumped to the opening Waller dinner scene, but the ORIGINAL version, THEN we go to Belle Reeve to actually meet the members, and lead into their flashbacks, which would be more flushed out, not the hack jobs we got in the TC.

yeah, the film could have been longer, even 10-20 minutes. it wasn't a chore to watch, i doubt another 10/20 min would have changed that aspect of it.

well i loved the way the film introduced the characters it was fun, entertaining and got you into the character's personalities straight off the bat

but i will say june moon needed a conventional chronological introduction

Please no more graphics. That thing is probably keeping me away from another viewing of the film. They are garish and unbearable. I'd probably be able to live with the dossier opening as well if it weren't for those graphics.

More linear storytelling would've helped those pacing things a bit more for sure probably.

Ayer:
"There’s a linear version we did where it opens up with June in the cave and tells the story in sequence with the arrests and Batman, and then we go to Belle Reve. Honestly, there may be six or seven different versions of the film. In that version, [test] audiences were left with a lot of questions and a little disoriented as to who to watch and why. So we came up with what we call the ‘dossier’ version which has Amanda presenting the backstories and origins of the various members."

So, Ayer says there are around 6-7 cuts of the film:

Wow, just wow.

David Ayer I say to you:

this is just embarrassing.

I think that was the biggest impact from BvS. WB thought a shorter/fun movie would go over well.

By the way, does anyone else feel Jared Leto is more expressive as the Joker than Heath Ledger. Obviously we can't compare Leto and Ledger because Leto barely had much screentime. But the little time he had, I feel he was just more expressive.

Me too. BvS rocks. But I won't go too hard on SS fans. Because I know how annoying it is to have people moaning and groaning over and over about something you genuinely liked. So all power to SS fans.

 I liked SS, it was a good time. But BvS is still my precious. ;)

Sucks you didn't enjoy SS, AnneFan. FWIW, I didn't have much expectations for SS going in, I thought it was going to be a mindless action film. But it delivered on a little bit of heart as well and I appreciate it for that.

I gotta admit Suicide Squad seems to be enjoyed more by my friends and colleagues and my brother's favorite DCEU movie. My Marvel friend told me last week that Suicide Squad is his favorite movie so far this year (but he didn't like the Joker). Civil War used to be his favorite.
