It really is remarkable how gradually the marketing for this transformed from a somber, darker film to a more zany, punk rock romp. Some posters on here have showed the evolution of how the 'SS' logo changed from last year until now and that itself makes it blatantly obvious how the film's tone has changed behind the scenes.

For the record though, I think WB had the right impulse to make this movie a zany punk rock action film....they just did it way to damn late instead of at the SCRIPT stage!

The trailer got a good reception, too. But that all disappeared like a fart in the wind after BvS.

Captain Boomerang is one of the core members of the Task Force X/Suicide Squad so he should be a part of the sequel should it happen.

One of Nolan's producers taking a jab at DC director's cuts?

There was a 38 minute sequence cut from TDKR detailing how Wayne got from here back into Gotham.

The release was the "Director's Cut."

We will never see this scene.

This isn't a "make-or-break" moment but can someone explain how the rest of the team was waiting outside the elevator once Harley had beat those goons to a pulp on her way up, even though we saw her already several floors above them on the ground floor when they realized what she was doing? Did they take an even faster elevator, or did they all sprint up the stairs at inhuman speed?
Obviously this is a nitpick, but it just struck me as an editing/staging problem. They wanted to get in both comedic moments (the team seeing her well on her way up the elevator, and the team looking at her in awe as she steps out) but it makes no sense.

The Elevator scene was longer but they cut it down

Be careful criticising this film in here, some people take it very personally and will probably call you biased or try to bash you given the scores you have in your signature. Or some will just post a gif of some kind when they have no arguments haha!

I can tell you've visited this thread before :cwink:

Don't know if its a jab, but DC better stop pulling the director's cut trick. People will soon get sick of it.

Sounds like Nolan more than WB considering that they basically let him do whatever. I mean do we really need a 38 min. scene explaining that in a movie that's already 2hrs and 20min+? I'm sure he could've edited it down to explain it

Still can't get over him just popping up in Gotham. :hehe:

The movie was 2hrs 45 mins

BvS in hindsight could have used an extra 15 mins (theater cut)

SS seemed like it needed another 20 mins.

I loved Suicide Squad, but I had few problems with it.

First of all. Suicide Squad is never indented to fight superpowered threats. Suicide Squad or Task Force X usually do black ops, steal things for Amanda Waller, break into buildings like Arkham prison.. That's what Suicide Squad is about. I really didn't like when Amanda Waller said something about she wants to have group ready if the chance come for the next Superman..

What can Harley Quinn do? What can Deadshot do? What can Boomerang do? Nothing, they're all without powers and are C-D lists villians and they're very weak.

I wish if the plot was to break into Arkham or another building like Kord Enterprises, Queen Industries or maybe even Wayne Enterprises, and to steal something for Amanda Waller.

Assault on Arkham is excellent movie and they did true portrayal of what Suicide Squad really is about.

I don't know about that.

The reaction to the first trailer was pretty positive. And I think people would've easily accepted that tone due to the fact that the film was supposed to be about villains. So, walking in, people have some idea of what to expect.

Now, it's not unsual to see different tones in various trailers and TV spots, but BvS clearly freaked out the execs and their response showed again how much they don't understand why people had problems with it.

I never had a big problem with this but I remember when the film was released everyone complained about this so much :funny:

Jokes about it were funny, but people complaining about it on a serious level was so stupid.

Do you really need to see every little thing.
"How did Bruce get back into Gotham"
"How did Banner find all of the Avengers so fast"

No one likes that movie watching guy

I just rewatched the club scene, and unless there's something wrong with the video there is a TERRIBLE cut in it.

After Harley jumps off Monster T's lap and says "fine, don't waste my time then" she walks up to Joker... and the NEXT SHOT is her sitting on the couch. She moved 6 feet in one second.

The movie already felt too long, or most scenes weren't remotely exciting and engaging, could be that. Imo, this cut just doesn't work.

A part of me thinks the Joker/Harley cuts were so hard and chaotic to illustrate Harley's memory of it. Then I'd get all the effects used in those scenes.

However, it doesn't work because Waller is the one telling the story. Probably works better if Harley was just thinking about it.

They had El Diablo who is essentially a fire god. Lol But beyond him yeah I get your point.

This cut doesn't have the weird purple filter, though. They used those to mask some of the more chaotic cuts. A section was cut and they used Joker's "are you enjoying yourself" line to blend the shots. Most people don't notice and I only noticed it on my umpteenth rewatch, but knowing the background of the movie I pay more attention to it. lol

This video has been making the rounds. She makes a good point about not wanting to risk innocent lives, but sending soldiers along anyway.

A lot of reaching. Cause some of it is just comic book elements.

Also the squad were never sent after Enchantress.

Started funny...but eh...

Then again I guess you can say that about this movie. :cwink:

From Reddit
I'm hearing a ton about how simple the plot was and how weak the "Main Villian" was. This is my opinion on said plot and what I got from the movie.

The Suicide Squad isn't put together to stop Enchantress. They're put together to go into Midway city and save "The most important person in the city- Amanda Waller." That's why Deadshot says, "I don't know if you know this but I'm a hitman. I don't save people."

Once they have Waller she tells Flagg, "You wouldn't have gotten here without them." To justify her putting the squad together for that mission.
They were done once Waller got in the helicopter. That's why she says, "I'll send another hilo for you!" Because the mission was accomplished. Never does she say to go after Enchantress.

In fact, the Skwad doesn't even know what they're up against until Boomerang tosses his drone boomerang into the building where Enchantress is doing her belly dancing.
The intrigue of the movie is that the "bad" guys actually CHOOSE to try and save the world. It was never their mission. They were free to go once Flagg smashed his headbomb PDA.

As for the villian- Enchantress was a result of Waller's own doing. Waller kept her caged like an animal and got played when she turned on her. As for the Enchantress' plan, it was to make a machine to destroy all of the military zones and cripple the world response so her and her brother could be worshiped as Gods once more. Think of it as a less destructive Ultron or Loki in Avengers. That's why we see military sites and ships being destroyed and not the White House or other civilian targets. She was never to be some incredible villain. Only a different kind to show the dichotomy between what's really bad.

So to anyone who says it was a "weak" villian, you prove that this movie did it's job. You even think the squad are heroes. This movie showed us that not all bad guys are created equal. We have the bad "Gods" that want to take over and rule the world (Enchantress and Incubus), the government baddies that want to use anything they can including metahumans as weapons for their own agenda (Waller), Bad guys that are born with a power they can't control and end up using it for crime (Diablo and Croc), Bad guys that are vigilante killers hellbent on revenge (Katana) Bad guys that do it for the money (Deadshot and Boomerang), and Some bad guys who are just unpredictable psychopaths (Joker and Harley).

So yeah, the plot wasn't as simple as some may have thought.

"this guy's a boomerang" okay that was pretty good :hehe:

That Reddit user is right about the plot, but just because the motivations of the villain are clear doesn't make them a good villain. The villain is weak because of sub par CG, weird acting decisions and just cringe-worthy elements all around.

Incubus does have substandard CG. However, he's not on screen a lot.

Enchantress was actually not bad. Its just the dancing most people are harping on. She was creating her army to give her time to build the machine to destroy the military zones.

I'm not saying Enchantress was great, but not as bad as she's been made out to be. By the end back in her creepy witch form I thought she was quite decent.

At that point she was just like a Marvel villain for me. Not compelling, but not distracting enough for me to focus on the "protagonists" and what they were doing.
