Please, you are making my heart ache.

just making a random comment....you know how fans are, thinking Stephanie Meyer invented werewolves and all

They better not make a big deal out of this franchise with Part 2 in 2012.

It's been a great 4 years!...

Because despite all the money Twilight has and will make, it doesn't strike a cord with audiences like Harry Potter did. And that's why Twilight won't be remembered after it's done.

I am sad at the B.O. potential Breaking Dawn has, but knowing mostly no one gives half a **** except for women and knowing the franchise won't carry on for future generations makes me happy. Harry Potter will continue for decades and centuries like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and others will.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

At least a more worthy film now has that midnight box office record. I was actually surprised how big the midnight sessions were down here, we generally don't do the whole midnight opening thing (it's very rare in fact), I went to the opening session the following day but a young lady I know who went to the midnight sessions said the cinemas was packed.

It's the highest grossing movie franchise ever, there is a HP theme park, the books are some of the most successful books ever written, etc. etc.

Harry Potter is pretty damn big. HP is here to stay. Rowling will either write a prequel or some other tangent wizard story or these movies will be rebooted in 20 years because they make so much damn money.

My theory for Twilight's success is simply down to the lack of franchises for women. Us guys are spoiled for choice, every year we get dozens of movies thus fan bases for each franchise is diluted because of those options, but don't have that option and when that rare franchise for the ladies comes along the sisterhood unites. That's why it's so huge.

Harry Potter? **** no....It might endure for a decade or so, but once its fans grow up no one will care

Potter is the only long running series of film that has remained consistent throughout its run, they've had minor hiccups here and there but for the most part it's the most consistent franchise ever. Indiana Jones, Batman, Star Wars, Star Trek, Bond, all have screwed up somewhere along the line, many of which have needed to be rebooted. Potter will be remembered for a long time, a very long time.

You do realize a great majority of the fanbase are adults too. And these books will be passed on to future generations, whats to say they wont enjoy it as much as this one.

Well its not just that its for women. Its that it offers an escapism fantasy for them. The fact that its this romance about a mythical "vampire" going after a young plain girl is an even more significant draw. I could be wrong but the Hunger Games is not as popular as the Twilight books despite having a female protagonist. Twilight just has that impossible/forbidden romance angle.

I know plenty of mid to late 20-somethings who love the books/films.

my kids (if it ever gets that far) will not be reading JK Rowling...theyll be reading proper fiction and literature

My first long term girlfriend got me Chamber of Secrets for a gift back in 2002, that is the only way I even learned about the thing. I know enough about the characters, but I'm not a nerd about it like I am about Star Wars, mind you.

Why censor your own kids? Let them make up their minds. I would never tell my daughter not to read Twilight, despite how I feel about that series.

Twilight is for people whose reading material consists solely of US Weekly and their FaceBook page

But my point is if my daughter was curious(and age appropriate), I would not say no. I'd like for her to make up her own mind.

then you give her a copy of 'Heart of Darkness' and tell her she is disowned if a copy of Twilight is ever found in your home

Censoring your child from certain types of books is just stupid. I rather she read Twilight then she not read like a lot of kids today.

I think the better films in the series will be remembered....kind of like how Jaws is but no one cares about Jaws 3D or Jaws: The Revenge

I agree that kids reading Twilight is better than nothing at all.

The problem I have with Twilight is just that it's nothing but really bad melodrama. There is no plot. Just sparkly PG mormon vampires who do some talking, argue over a girl, and do some more talking, *cue shirtless Indian werewolves* back to more talking that goes nowhere.

The fact that it is the most popular vampire fiction is disturbing. The series should end with Guillermo Del Toro ripping through the theater screen and staking Edward.

Best possible ending for Twilight:
