Summer 2011 box office predictions - Part 2

Just a damn shame all the effort and care that WB put into both Potter and Batman in ensuring they were quality film wasn't even attempted with Green Lantern.

Well whoever it was why in the hell they would want to release it after Potter is beyond me, especially when it's the fourth superhero movie of the year.

From what I was hearing Paramount just wants to get these movies out fast because Thor and Cap are their last Marvel movies because Disney takes over next.

Thursday Update: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 had a remarkable overseas debut yesterday, grossing an estimated $43.6 million in 26 territories. Across the same group of territories, that opening day is up 82 percent on Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 49 percent on Half-Blood Prince. The average 3D share was 65 percent.

The movie set opening day records in Australia ($7.5 million), Italy ($4.6 million), Sweden ($2.1 million), Norway ($1.8 million), the Netherlands ($1.7 million), Denmark ($1.6 million), Belgium ($1.4 million) and Finland ($749,000). It also claimed the Wednesday opening record in France ($7.1 million), the preview record in Germany ($5.3 million), and the Warner Bros. opening day record in Russia ($4.1 million).

Early screenings of Cap are very positive but that is really only an indicator from the fanboy crowd.

We've seen with Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim that also got great reviews and buzz from the fan community at the Cons doesn't always translate to boxoffice success.

Cap does look good though. I think it'll do fine.

If you dont see Captain America, you're not American.

 If the movie is a critically successful film, there is no excuse to not see it. Of course things in life may get in the way but still.

Steve Rogers is a role model for America. I've heard "nerdy" remarks about being stoked for the movie. It isn't ******* nerdy to be excited for a movie that represents an AMERICAN for AMERICA!

It's called patriotism dumb asses. Show some respect for the troops on the other side of the world and see the movie.

Captain America isn't Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim.

82% increasing on opening day compared to the last film? Holy ****. :wow:

Look out TDK. $180 million opening is insane.

Captain America has nothing to worry about. Worst comes to worst it'll only pick up steam in the following weeks. It's not like there's another world beating film that comes out afterwards.

Cowboys and Aliens and Planet of the Apes are just as or less shaky than Cap.

That's if the film's any good.

I'm calling it, fastest film ever to hit a $1 billion.

Wait, $180 million opening weekend?

Good... Lord.

It's gonna be hard to top that.

I've long been of the opinion if any movie was going to top the 3-day opening of The Dark Knight, it'd be either Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows - Part II or The Dark Knight Rises.

My prediction has been $162 million, but those $180 million projections aren't crazy when you factor in the 3D/IMAX bump, shorter length and the last minute bookings (and sell-outs!) for 3 AM screenings tonight. Last time we heard that happen was, you guessed it, The Dark Knight.

Also should be worth noting if Potter does do say $180 million, then it's highly likely (Sorry, Marvel fans!) it not only beats Captain America the following weekend (based on its glowing reviews and word-of-mouth) but also breaks the biggest second weekend gross. So...be prepared for that possibly go down.

If Potter's a monster then Cap needs to do at least Xmen numbers to get a sequel plus postive WOM. I think Marvel will be understanding with Cap's numbers since Potter is God right now.

Yeah this movie will be a monster. Could have another billion dollar grosser on our hands. I can definitely see this making well over $700M+ overseas alone. DH1 made $660M OS/$955M WW.

Im out five bucks I guess. Bet my friend Transformers would be king of the summer. Well that aint happening.

This will easily eclipse $700 million overseas because its in 3-D. The people over there are still seeing these movies this way, haven't gotten sick of it like we have. Its the reason POTC 4 made $800+ million internationally.
