Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - - - Part 12

I want to see Superman, Flash, Green Arrow, Supergirl, and Batwoman standing together to deal with the Monitor, Psycho-Pirate, and that Arkham doctor.

It seems the Arkham doctor may have something to do with Black Suit Superman and 1990 Flash being involved.

Yeah, I am actually very curious to see on how the likes of Superman and Lois gets involved given on how trinity centric this year's crossover is shaping out to be, mixed in with it being used as a platform to introduce Batwoman as well.

If Supergirl, Flash, and Green Arrow are the main trinity of the crossover, what if the other trinity are Superman, 1990 Flash, and Batwoman to counterpoint them?

Superman, 1990 Flash, and Batwoman could deal with the Monitor while Supergirl mediates between Barry and Oliver about their switches.

Don’t forget Lois will only be in Flash and Supergirl while Iris is only in the Flash part. Caitlin will only be in Flash and Arrow. Now we know Cisco will be involved as well.

I guess I wasn’t alone in hoping that Batwoman would originate from Earth-38. Standard reason: most of the heroes/shows occupy Earth-1; and for balance sake, it would be nice if Supergirl had a bit of company :(:cwink:. But at this point - with the wacky identity swaps, etc. - who knows what’s going on.

When I saw the b-t-s stuff of Lois participating in a big (climactic?) battle, I figured Earth-38. Sure, Superman and Supergirl would dimension hop for a big crisis. But why would Lois? I suppose, though, there are any number of ways that her presence on an alternative Earth could be finagled.

Well tbf we still don’t know which Earth Batwoman is on.

Wtf? Hmm I’m not sure about that one.

I’m a big fan of the guy in comedic roles so will have to wait and see.

Why did they cast him of all people?

Also, he's 53. If they were going to cast that old, then they should've gotten Billy Zane, who is about the same age. Well, he's actually 52. He would've been fantastic as Lex.

Cryer doesn't really seem intimidating enough. I hope we don't get another Lex in the mould of Kevin Spacey, Gene Hackman or Jessie Eisenberg. But it seems he might be more like that than Michael Rosenbaum or Clancy Brown. Zane would've been more like Brown.

Well, if I had to make a random guess...so much of Supergirl pulls specifically from the Donner Superman films.

Perhaps they're going for a slightly comedic Lex? That's my only assumption, and a baseless one at that, that comes to mind without much to go off of aside from him being cast in the role.

I really don't want a comedic take again. I also don't want Lex being more weasly like Eisenberg.

I was really hoping for a Rosenbaum/ Brown type Luthor. Zane would've been exactly that.

Heck, they could even have cast Sam Witwer as Lex instead of Agent Liberty. He would've worked too.

I mean, even though it was on a different Earth, I wonder if maybe Zane wasn't picked because he was already used in the Arrowverse in some capacity on Legends of Tomorrow. Again, different Earth and in the past, so wouldn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, but just me speculating.

That’s my concern that this isn’t serious take. I also think this was just a way for them to do some legacy casting.

Although I will say in his defence comedic actors are usually great at turning to serious roles so maybe he will surprise us all.

Okaaaaaay.

I did not see that coming. Guess we just have to wait and see the direction they are going.

EDIT: He does fit of them going for people related to the franchise from the past.

People don't really seem to "get" Lex Luthor.

BUt I could be proven wrong

With Cryer's casting as Lex, any interest that I had in the idea of seeing Tyler spearhead his own Superman show has significantly diminished. A hero is only as great his villain and there is no way that you can convince me that Jon can pull that off.

While I agree it’s hard to see, Jon Cryer is a good actor. We should at least give him the benefit of the doubt and watch him as Lex before taking full judgments.

BH/HHH, after seeing me post on these forums for 2 years, don't you know by now that taking full judgments before seeing the final product is my living mantra?:o

:funny:

I’m just trying to be the voice of reason

Presumably, the characterization of Lex will be consistent with Supergirl’s overall tone - and plausibly compatible with Lillian and Lena. I.e., it won’t be a comedic, over-the-top interpretation. Also, maybe Cryer desperately wants to make amends for Superman IV. :o
