Supergirl Supergirl General Discussion Thread - - - Part 12

It’s hilarious to me that they didn’t use the new suit with this shoot. Like, I get the logistics of why (as SG isn’t the only one to get this), but SG finally gets an EW cover all to herself for the first time ever (since she shared the last one with Grant and Stephen), the same week they unveil the first new suit she’s had in 4 years, and yet the cover shoot has nothing to do with the new suit. The timing on that is just funny to me. But anyway, good for her!

I think we'll see the new suit in the final moments of the season premiere, if not in Episode 2.

News of the costume redesign didn’t seem particular “official.” It was casually (accidentally?) mentioned in an interview; then there’s a photo on Benoit’s personal Twitter account; then we see some unauthorized BTS stuff. So for the EW photo shoot, maybe it was decided (at that time) to go with the original costume so as to avoid confusion and/or keep the new costume secret.
Yeah, like I said, I get logistically WHY this happened. Because this shoot didn't happen yesterday, and the plans were made a while back. It's just funny to me, timing-wise. Would've been the ideal opportunity to officially unveil the new suit.

Exclusive: 'Supergirl' star Melissa Benoist teases 'fight for Lena's soul' in season 5

Benoist admits that it wasn’t until season 4 that she found a deeper connection with the Girl of Steel. “I just felt an ownership and responsibility, and what I wanted [the role] to mean to other people.” Benoist’s high-flying drama also came into its own last season, soaring to new heights with a topical plot about Supergirl confronting xenophobia toward aliens and divisiveness in the country.

I love seeing S4 get more love from the press. It deserved it, imo.

"Our Black Mirror season" sounds...interesting? With all this tech-focus talk (as both the theme of the season and Lena's specific storyline), my hope to see the true Brainiac on the horizon is renewed.

The photos were taken in the past 2 weeks so the outfit was already made by the time they did the photoshoot (at least being made).

Whoever runs these things over at TheCW/DC needs to get it together....they knew EW wanted to do a photoshoot, when it would take place, when it would be released....you take this opportunity to get the free publicity and debut the new costume in a popular magazine, especially one where everyone gets a cover. Grant/Amell are already sporting their new costumes...

The belt is a big upgrade, imo. I like the shiny metallic parts to it now. The cape clasps never bothered me, so good to see them again. Though, the pilot wings over the sigil is an odd choice.

Good news. Eve only got more interesting last season.

Also, SG's cover looks to be an homage to this:

What's the reasoning behind the suit change?

What's the reasoning behind the suit change?
Pretty sure they just felt it was time. Flash and Arrow got suit changes like every season. Melissa's been pushing for one for a while, apparently. This one's supposed to be much more comfortable for her for multiple reasons (not the least of which being more suitable for Vancouver weather) and has the added story bonus of taking inspiration from Red Daughter.

Love seeing the Arrowverse heroes coming together for the EW shoot. Seeing Supergirl's EW photos is like seeing JLU Supergirl in live-action!!

The suit change could be the response to the upcoming Supergirl movie.

If Superman gets a TV show, I wonder if it's going to be ironic for Superman to replace Supergirl in TV while Supergirl to replace Superman in movies.

I've said it before that the CW needs to get it together and be ahead of the ballgame if they want buzz.

It has nothing to do with the movie. Supergirl will be nearing its 7th season by the time that comes out.

With the 100th episode being 5x13 and thus being clear of Crisis, I wonder how they will celebrate.

If it gets renewed depending on the ratings. They don't want confusion where both TV and movie Supergirl wear skirts.

A wedding between Superman and Lois?

TheCW isn't going to be cancelling the show before Melissa's contract is up, that much is guaranteed. Why would it be anymore confusing then 2 Superman's who wear pants? Or two Flashes?

Because the casuals will think they will take place in the same universe.

Flash didn't have that problem when it came to Justice League. They can tell the difference between movies and tv lol

Timing totally SUUUUUCKED ON THIS ONE. Sometimes I just SMH....

Supergirl will go as long as Melissa wants to put on the suit, which is probably to the end of her contract. WHATEVER that is????? who knows.

Maybe Melissa doing the photo shoot in the skirt is her way of giving it a proper send off and respect. She's said she likes the skirt and was offered pants between seasons 2 and 3 but opted to not to change then. Recent interviews seem to say she feels strongly the change to pants is connected to Kara growing up from who she was when we first met her. Basically the skirt fit who Kara was but not who she's become over four seasons. And yes there's the also the obvious comfort and mobility benefits but if those were the only reason she would've changed at the beginning of season three rather than stick with the skirt for two more years.

So… are these shot of Benoist in her new togs from the first episode(s) of Supergirl, proper? Or are they from the “Crisis” crossover? Has the crossover already been filmed?

Those are from Ep. 2 I believe.

Also, I may get my wish and it be Winn who brings her the suit, he is coming back for a multi- episode arc.
