Interesting interview. I still think they made a mistake in casting Mechad Brooks as Jimmy though. If they wanted him to be black, fair enough, but they could've found someone else. I think Mechad's casting is a bit too problematic on several levels, particularly now that we have Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.

never really had an issue with Brooks as Jimmy... but I can understand why some people would (NOT talking about him being black there BTW).

That being said, if they added a thing where we find out that Jimmy was a tall, Lanky dude when he & Superman got to know each other and that Jimmy buffed up as he felt sel conscious next to Superman..... then it could make for an interesting dynamic for him. IMHO

My only problem with Brooks is a lack of (romantic) chemistry I see between him and Melissa, so I hope the Kara/Jimmy thing doesn't go on forever, but I have no problem with his portrayal of the character otherwise.

Yeah, it's kinda funny that he seems to have the least chemistry with Benoist out of the entire main cast.

Well, it would be funny if they weren't trying to push the characters into a romantic relationship with each other!

I just hope they solidify Jimmy's character in season 2. He was all over the place in season 1 - wanting to make his mark as head of the art / layouts (?) department, then wanting to be a "man on the street" reporter, then wanting to go back to being a photographer and then seemingly switching between all three roles whenever he wanted, although I'm sure Cat Grant wouldn't have been thrilled about that.

The back and forth with Lucy Lane, who came across as a pretty wonderful person on screen, and forced "chemistry" with Kara didn't help things either.

I also didn't really understand his ... central storyline. He moved to National City because he was tired of being Superman's pal. But, he basically just became Supergirl's pal. He seems to be filling a similar function with Supergirl as he did with Superman, which doesn't demonstrate much character growth. Sure, part of his move was to ... "mentor" Kara / Supergirl at the request of Clark, but it was still a little odd.

I honestly felt like he and Lucy also had better chemistry together.

If Mechad Brooks had been cast as Green Lantern, I would have no problem with him.

But I would prefer someone as Jimmy who is younger, shorter, smaller built and not as much of an alpha male.

I'd even have less problem with Brooks as Superman than as Jimmy. At the moment he makes Tyler Hoechlin look like Jimmy.

I'm pretty sure they WANTED Jimmy to be more of an alpha male here. Like, that was the whole point - that he's not what you'd expect from Jimmy Olsen. Maybe it's meant to represent the affect Superman has had on him over the years, I dunno, but it was definitely what they were going for either way.

Hoechlin won't look like Jimmy just b/c he's shorter, lol. It's all about how they play their relationship on screen.

I definitely agree with this, their relationship was also a lot more interesting, relationship drama may generally be annoying, but I thought that we sometimes got some pretty decent character development out of that relationship.

I thought Lucy Lane is normally a bit less responsible than Lois Lane and less grown up. This Lucy Lane seems like she could've been Lois Lane herself. She certainly was old enough and even had some authority when she was head of the DEO and in her uniform.

I actually felt she had ZERO authority to her when she was head of the DEO, so I was glad when that particular arrangement was over. The actress just has no gravitas, imo. But overall, I liked Lucy, and she is less like Lois because she's still clearly close with her Dad and sees (or at least SAW) things more his way, regarding aliens and all that. I'm guessing she doesn't talk much to Lois because Lois has disowned Dad and Lucy was more on his side than hers.

That said, Lucy came around to Kara's side, which got me thinking about how Lois would feel about her now. I mean, IF Lois in this world is already in love with Clark and knows his secret, then she might actually feel bad about never trusting Lucy enough to share it with her once she sees how great she is with Kara now. I dunno, could be an interesting relationship to explore some time later on down the line.

And I really didn't see him as a mentor....and then when he is finally "kind of a mentor" he gets butt hurt and they write the line.... "Well, I'm good for advice..." OOOOK....what the heck do you want to be and do James......????? Come on writers, make up your mind as to who and what James is in this series....

It was very frustrating to watch, because I don't think it was fair to the actor.

Maybe they'll kill this Jimmy off and say that he has a younger brother also named Jimmy who will turn out to be the proper classic Jimmy. :o

They're starting episode 6:

Also yay, Teng was my favorite director last season.

Have they cast Lois?

Have they cast Lois?

Doesn't seem like he's even in the episode but imagine even were it a cameo how cool would it be if they kept that under wraps?

Sorry, I meant in general not just the episode mentioned in the post above mine. Have they announced anyone being cast as Lois for this season?

All the characters are older. In previous versions Superman was just starting out. So Cat was younger. Jimmy was younger. Lucy was younger. In this version Clark had been Superman for 11 years so everyone else is also 11 years older too. Thus we really can't expect them to act exactly like they did 11 years ago. Of course they would all be more mature.

No, Lois has not been mentioned at any time....not even during SDCC 2016, so I'm going to assume that at least for now, she will probably be mentioned but not seen.

I'd love a scene where Clark's on the phone with her, we don't even need her reaction just him reacting to her

speaking of Lois, do you think Lois knows Clark's secret in this universe. If James knows, you'd think Lois would too, right?

I didn't think of it that way, if he knows you'd have to believe Lois does.

yeah. you'd think she would, right?

plus, this isn't brand new Superman. this Superman has already been established for 11 years or so. So, he's probably known and worked with Lois for quite some time now.

If she does know then it makes sense for them to be together
