Supergirl Movie

You know what isn't poison? Making a good movie and making the right creative choices around the actors and directors around them. Audience's will flock around hype and word. A new Superman could be just as much poison if handled incorrectly. Cavill is a great Superman and he has a solid fanbase. Get him inked and let's get on with it already.

100%

It may seem like I'm jumping ship at the first opportunity but I'm kinda over Cav-El at this point. Dude's a trooper but I think he hasn't made himself indispensable to WB or the GA (sad to admit that includes me as well) while playing the character of Superman in 3 movies. I'll be disappointed if MOS2 doesn't end up happening but if WB wants to move on with Supergirl's movies as a substitute then I'm all for it. I'm ready to move on.

I'm ok with a recast too if the decide to not keep Cavill. We just need to know one way or the other now.

I'm still assuming Cavill is still Supes, cause if they wanted him gone he would be. To a lesser extent the same with Affleck.

if they end up recasting Superman, I'd rather that be part of a larger reboot of the whole DCEU instead of continuing the MOS Superman.

if they still can't figure out how to properly use MOS Superman after 3 films and 5+ years later, then it's time to start fresh with a new direction.

Well the talks are that they want to keep Cavill but they don't think he's expendable and if he continues to in their terms "ask for ridiculous demands" then they'll cut ties. Personally I think he's probably asking for more than he thinks he can get just to maximise the deal for himself. IMO there's nothing wrong with that.

So any chance that that "one of the pods on the Kryptonian scout ship" thing from MOS will come up here?

I don’t think they’ll go back to that.

The prospect of an ancient Kara existing on earth thousands of years before Kal never interested me and honestly defeats the purpose of the character

Actually I think it could have worked really well. When Kara escapes the pod she could have collapsed in the artic and therefore been frozen in ice. She could have then been discovered years later, they could have even played it as the military find her but alert Superman and he's there whilst they examine the girl in ice wearing his insignia. Later she is thawed out..

However when she awakens she doesn't believe Kal El and attacks him

There you have the start of her arc.

I don't think they will go with that but I think it would have totally worked.

Same. I would much prefer Supergirl appearing on Earth years after Superman has grown up and established himself as a hero. I'm interesting on whether Superman has a major role in the movie (like training her or helping her get accustomed to Earth's culture) or if he will just have a cameo appearance.

Frankly, I wouldn't mind an adaption of the Supergirl from Krypton story, where we get appearances not just from Superman and Batman, but also the DCEU's most successful character to date, Wonder Woman. Seeing her training Supergirl could be fun.

Holy moly. If they do this, Supergirl could actually reinvigorate the entire DCEU

That storyline involves all the major players... Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Darkseid! Man I’m going to be disappointed if they DON’T do this now.

Leave Brainiac for MOS2, and introduce Darkseid here. Man...

And considering Big Barda is likely to be a major part of New Gods, it could also play as a follow-up to that, if she retires to a "normal life" on Earth at the end of New Gods, and they come to her for help getting to Darkseid. :woot:

Didn't they do one of those prequel comics that was/wasn't continuity?

I'm pretty much the same. Affleck too. I don't want either of them to go but if they do then say so and let's move on.

I don't think they'll reference that at all.

That is a great story. And I can just hear Cavill and Affleck voicing that Superman/Batman radio conversation at the beginning!

Chances are they won't do this storyline. Especially if Cavill and Affleck are both on their way out.

My guess is they'll use Supergirl: Being Super as the basis for the film's story.

Oh yeah, all of that would've been completely awesome.

And now I also would love to see Superman: Brainiac, by Johns and Frank in live action. Superman and Supergirl fighting Brainiac together. Kara have to explain to Superman how really terrifying her memories were when Brainiac invaded and took Kandor. Yeah, the animated movie of that story was of course called Superman Unbound.

However, that is more of a Superman story, although Supergirl is important in it.

But that comic also had this classic moment:

I love that scene. lol.

Anyway, it's hard to get excited for this film on two fronts. First, it's an another WB empty promise, and second, I really feel like Kara and Clark need to be in a film together first. If WB had done this right it would have been Man of Steel, followed by a sequel featuring Luthor and Metallo, then ending with a third film featuring Brainiac and introducing Supergirl. And I really wish this was done years ago so Saoirse Ronan could have played Kara. She's too old now unfortunately.

Great, let's have a film made about one of DC's greatest female characters and the opportunity to allow little girl's to be able to focus on hope, and individual strength against oppression and then use the moment to have it focus on 'fake boobs', brilliant idea. :csad:

First, assuming things don't work out between Henry and WB, I think this is absolutely not an "empty promise" from WB. Second, Supergirl: Being Super is a fantastic origin story for her that only features Clark appearing as a brief cameo when Kara finally meets him for the first time at the very end.

They don't need to have Clark in a Supergirl film.

Also, another reason to consider why we're almost certainly not getting an adaptation of the Superman/Batman storyline for Supergirl: Hamada wants to focus on more self-contained stories for DC films in the foreseeable future. I doubt he'd want to rush back into a story featuring Supes, Batman, Wonder Woman and Darkseid (in his debut story no less) for a Supergirl origin story- no matter how badass it is.

We'll probably see Being Super used as the basis for most of Kara's origin story, maybe with some added Brainiac elements to spice things up a bit more.
