Supergirl Movie

It’s only an empty promise if they don’t make it.

...They don't need to have Clark in a Supergirl film.

While I don’t think it’s at all impossible to produce a quality film that doesn’t involve him, I don’t think there’s any good reason why he shouldn’t be there in some capacity. It’d be like doing a Robin movie without Batman.

Sequels, of course, are a different story.

First, assuming things don't work out between Henry and WB, I think this is absolutely not an "empty promise" from WB. Second, Supergirl: Being Super is a fantastic origin story for her that only features Clark appearing as a brief cameo when Kara finally meets him for the first time at the very end.

They don't need to have Clark in a Supergirl film.

Also, another reason to consider why we're almost certainly not getting an adaptation of the Superman/Batman storyline for Supergirl: Hamada wants to focus on more self-contained stories for DC films in the foreseeable future. I doubt he'd want to rush back into a story featuring Supes, Batman, Wonder Woman and Darkseid (in his debut story no less) for a Supergirl origin story- no matter how badass it is.

We'll probably see Being Super used as the basis for most of Kara's origin story, maybe with some added Brainiac elements to spice things up a bit more.

I think it's an entirely empty promise. WB have done nothing but over promise and under deliver, so forgive me if I'm a tad skeptical this sees the light of day. In regards to whether you need Clark and Kara in the same film together, I think her introduction story works far better as the backbone for a Superman film. Yes, you can do one without him as has been shown in the past, but there's a story with a much better emotional and character arc if Superman is there also, which is why I always felt had they stuck with the original plan of a Superman trilogy that story could have been suited for film three.

Being Super was a fantastic story. So, I wouldn't mind if they used that as a basis for the Supergirl film.

though, they'd have to add and incorporate other stuff into it, like Brainiac as the big bad. They'd also have to have Kara don a costume and do more superheroic stuff ( in addition to fighting big bad ), since that didn't really happen in Being Super.

Ideally, I'd like them to combine elements from Being Super (like Jen and Dolly as Kara's best friends ) with the current Rebirth setting where she struggles with fitting into HS while dealing with the DEO.

if they want to go for more large scale, epic story, and want to use Cavill, Affleck, and Gadot in their current roles, then the Superman/Batman story where Supergirl gets targeted by Darkseid would make an awesome story. That was actually my intro to Supergirl, along with Michael Turner's version of Supergirl.

though I'd prefer they do a hs/coming of age/discovering powers/fitting in type story like Being Super.

Being Super sounds like a good story. I’m not really interested in seeing the Superman/Batman/WW/Darkseid things play out. Not for the first film, anyway.

It's the flashback scenes of Man of Steel for the course of an entire story.
They made her young enough to vaguely remember leaving Argo City.

The Superman/Batman: Supergirl comic/movie is essentially every major hero & villain trying to parent her.

MacLaren:

Breaking Bad
Game of Thrones
Walking Dead
Westworld
The Leftovers
Hell on Wheels

I don't have a problem with Superman appearing, but I also don't think the Batman & Robin comparison works. Robin is a sidekick who was taken in and trained by Batman. Supergirl is Clark's cousin whose power comes from the same Kryptonian heritage. All she borrows from him is the name, really, since the suit was given to him, and the name can be a media creation. She's also one of the most popular female characters DC has.

MacLaren was my first thought, especially since that Cowboy Ninja Viking project she was on just got pulled.

My issue with directors is I don't take much notice of who directs stuff outside a few choice directors and anyone who directs DC movies.

Well you're right, that is your problem. ;)

Supergirl was my favorite part about Injustice 2.
Yeah, her story portions were the best part. I just wish those Injustice games were actually story/adventure games instead of fighting games. The ridiculous match-ups kind of kill any investment in the story for me.

My first thought for director is Jennifer Kent, cuz I'm really hoping to see her get a shot at the big leagues.

Saw Revenge recently, so Coralie Fargeat.

Personally I think the solution is use Being Super as the groundwork for the story with Brainiac as the main villain. Include him in Kara's scattered flashbacks and struggles to remember Krypton (i.e. her personal boogeyman) and then after she stops him at the end of the film, he escapes to potentially be used as the main baddie for MoS2 whenever that happens.

Also the thing from Being Super that needs to be in a Supergirl film is (SPOILERS):
Jen's death early on in the series and Kara's response to the tragedy. Humanizing Kara like that will go a long way in selling her to the audience if done properly.
