Superman SPOILER Review Thread (NO TAGS NECESSARY)

In regard to Clark's hypno-glasses, does it only work when someone's looking at him in person? If that's the case, wouldn't it be useless when someone's looking at photo of him (e.g., Press Badge)?

Hahaha yeah I think this is the sort of thing we REALLY shouldn’t think too much about because it will drive us all mad

i am thinking the hypno-glasses probably can manipulate camera tech so he looks distorted in photos too.

i'm just wondering hows his work badge, state ID, and passport photos look like (not that superman actually needs to drive or fly a plane - but he needs to have these to keep up the charade)

lol maybe the Hypno Glasses make him look like people who watched The Ring videotape when he shows up on camera

The chances anyone looks at those pictures let alone scrutanizes them is nil. Even if he got pulled over the cops would barely look.

Well, in the original story that inspired the movie explanation, the glasses only marginally alter Clark's appearance. So, him looking more like Superman in photos shouldn't really be an issue. Most people would just brush it off with a comment like, "You kinda look like Superman here." The reason is that in-person perception, i.e., the way we view things in real time, takes precedence over two-dimensional representation.

Wouldn't Superman have a big issue with Hawkgirl later on when he finds out that she killed the Boravian Leader?

Of course. He even had a big issue when Mr.Terrific exploded the Kaiju's heart instead of finding a way to tranquilize to study it. There is going to be a mirade of Metas for Superman yet to come across or have history with within the DCU, hence, him being the utmost differentiated hero throughout.

i can see the meta humans overstepping their bounds then getting checked by the government becoming the major plot point for dcu phase 1 or 2.

superman will be caught in the middle of trying to protect humanity/ serving justice while trying not to wield the JL's power unchecked.

just like in the jlu cadmus story arc. so good.

^ i recently showed this scene of the question + superman to a friend and he was like "how come they never adapted this to the DC live action movies??"

if the ending of superman is any indication though, i think this is where we are headed. :whoa:

just wondering if they are going to bring in amanda waller or will rick flag sr fill in for that role?

I would honestly like to see what Clark looks like from the perspective of an average bystander and what they see. That would be a great scene full of laughter and levity that is in Gunn's comedic wheelhouse.

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if Gunn attempted something like that in a sequel or wherever Superman shows up next. I like to think that the glasses' technology adjusts to the individual viewer's perspective. So, everyone sees their own unflattering version of Clark. One person might see him with a bigger nose, another might see him as a bald bastah, and so on and so forth. lol

That's sort of how the contrivance was first presented in the comic that Gunn took inspiration from.

I'm also curious whether the illusion still works once a person finds out the truth.

Now some time has passed since I saw the film and I still love it. I haven’t soured on it at all, I’m so thrilled with this movie and more specifically- Corenswet as Superman. What a perfect casting choice and performance. He doesn’t have the benefit of being the first movie Superman, but he’s honestly every bit as good as Reeve.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of him in the role. Considering the message from his bio parents, maybe he will have a desire to move away from the Kryptonian S design and go for a more earthly S as the movies go on.

Yeah I’m absolutely over the moon about David’s Superman. Honestly, of all the superheroes I grew up with, I’ve always found Superman the toughest to get right in live action. The toughest to cast. Because after Reeve, there just wasn’t any comparison. That man was lightning in a bottle. Routh and Cavill felt like poor knockoffs. Tom Welling was a model who never tried to be a real actor. Dean Cain is just some racist ***hole who never took an acting class and likes to shoot his mouth off anytime Superman is associated with something that (shockingly!) isn’t pro-fascist.

But Corenswet…. From his classic Julliard training to some of his previous performances to his starmaking turn in this film… I’m just watching him like Samuel L. Jackson at the end of Unbreakable (“WE FOUND YOU!!!”). He’s so good. I want to see him play this role for a decade in a series of solo films and JL team ups.

I love seeing Tom Welling name dropped by Corenswet. Unpopular opinion, but Welling is my number 3 behind Reeve and Corenswet. Smallville was pretty amazing for me, and tells an incredibly epic story that includes most of Superman’s rogues gallery, and most importantly- gets a satisfying conclusion. It’s a story with a beginning middle and end.

Some of my all time favorite live action Superman moments were in that show. Nicholas Hoult is a GREAT Lex but I still have to give the nod to Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex as the best. Hoult has a chance to usurp Rosenbaum as he appears in more films though.

Been feeling so optimistic about DC because of this movie and Gunn. Feels good to have hope again.

Much lighter and different from Man of Steel. We get thrusted into Superman’s world when dealing with Lex Luthor, Ultraman, Engineer, Hammer, and Kairi.

David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have the chemistry to become our new Superman and Lois Lane.

A delicate balance between a solo Superman movie and a DCU movie with the other superheroes appearing.

A Superman worth watching multiple times. High recommender.
