Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. - Part 1

Still have to watch the 3rd.

Prepare to be disappointed. Even Snipes AND Gibson couldn't save that movie due how the awful the creative direction went with the use of the vanilla team nobody cared about.

The extended edition of 3 had some good moments, but overall, it was a big step down from the 2nd movie, which just had so much 80's goodness in it.

Hope they get Kurt Russell for the bad guy in the 4th movie.

They need to hire a contemporary action director. Someone like Fast and The Furious franchise director Justin Lin

I really like what John Hyams did with his two Universal Soldier flicks so I'd like that pic.

Agree with earlier posts; get rid of the young cast of nobodies. I didn't care about any one of them. Usually when I watch part 3, I start to skip the scenes involving them (them tracking and capturing Gibson). The recruitment scene is ok thanks to Banderas being awesome.

They need to go out with a bang:

Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Statham, Lundgren, Weathers, Snipes, Banderas, Crews (Randy Couture can go as far as I'm concerned) and Kurt Russell.

Instead of going younger, maybe they should go with some of today's bigger stars who have also done action:

Gerard Butler, Hugh Jackman, The Rock, Liam Neeson (maybe in a Harrison For/Bruce Willis role) or Keanu Reeves.

But they are running out of action stars :D.

the third film had some questionable casting as well. I mean Glenn Powell and Kellen Lutz? Seriously? I understand Victor Ortiz and Ronda Rousey, but those two? Also, Kelsey Grammar?

Like Steve Segal (who thought his fans wanted films with a strong environmental message...), I think Stallone misunderstood what about The Expendables made the idea appealing to audiences in the first place. At one point he was talking about doing spin-off series' with various characters. The audience for these films doesn't care about the characters or bringing in new blood, they want to watch action stars from classic movies reciting their old lines.

Introducing younger stars was a big mistake, or at least people whose names aren't big enough to generate ticket sales. Someone like Vin Diesel would have been good, current-generation action heroes with enough clout to sell it. The Rock, Gerard Butler, as you said yourself, would work well too.

If they make another film it'll have to shift back to what made the first film a success. Continuing down the current path will put the series on the straight-to-DVD route.

None of which is to say Stallone is untalented, far from it. Just that he may have thought/hoped the characters he'd created in this particular franchise were what audiences loved, rather than the actors behind them.

One more go around with a hard 'R' rating would be worth it.
Bring back Arnold ,Crews, Dolph, Snipes and have Willis back as the villain somehow or needing their help one last time.
Throw in Carl Weathers,JCVD & Mr. T for some minor roles or cameos and have some fun.

Stallone Departs ‘The Expendables’ Franchise

EXCLUSIVE: In a crushing blow to fans of The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone has washed his hands of the franchise. He has withdrawn from taking part in the fourth installment, even though, sources said, it would have meant the biggest upfront payday in his career at north of $20 million. The reason? He and Nu Image/Millennium chief Avi Lerner could not find common ground on a new director, on the script and on certain qualitative elements of the film.

The Expendables without Stallone is beyond pointless.

Part 4 with Steven Segal should be arriving straight to netlfix soon enough.

1) Surprised theyre making Expendables 4
2) Yeah without Stallone it's pointless
3) It was already pointless before

Would be funny if they were finally able to make a decent one without him there.

Won't be the Expendables without him, he was the centre point of those films. Flawed as they were, Stallone held them together. I've no interest in seeing a bunch of random action guys otherwise.

That's beyond strange - Sly's pretty much the lynchpin for the series.

How about we just end this. I'm good with the first two.

Jean Claude never even got to return as Jean Villain's long-lost twin brother, Luc Alike.

No Stallone, no point, scrap this one please. Shame we couldn't get one more but oh well.

I wouldve been down for one more to close out the series and (theoretically) end thr series on a good note and not the note #3 left us with.

Oh well. Still got the first 2.

Agreed...3 was pretty sh**. 2 is definitely my fave. First one was aight.

And now that Stallone is gone, I have no more f***s to give.

Aren't they still doing that female version?

I haven't heard anything about the female version in a while.

On a side note, Stallone posted this a day or two ago. He's in insane shape for a guy who will be 71 in July, HGH or not.
