It was a great movie, the action was just fantastic throughout which I was happy to see. I didn't mind the story at all, I thought it worked perfectly for the movie. My only beefs are that Randy didn't need to be in it at all, his character was useless and could have been taken out. I didn't have a problem with the cg blood, yeah it looks fake but when you see that blood come flying out of them it looks awesome, but [BLACKOUT]the cg fire on Stone Cold was so horribly bad it's not even funny, it would have been much easier for Randy to just snap his neck or something.[/BLACKOUT] It was a great great weekend for movies with this and Scott Pilgrim. I'd say this is an easy 8 out of 10.

Went to see this and the movie theatre was full of older people. I mean people my parents' age. I confess it was cool to watch a bunch of them applaud and go nuts at the crazy violence and seeing their faves on the screen.

Couture has his moments, but I wish we saw more of him slamming the crap out of guys in the basement.

Spill.com sorta turned me off of seeing this... and i usually agree or understand their critiques on movies..

i keep hearing the same negatives from everyone... and no positives.

it just seems people liked it because they see their favorite action stars together. But whats the point if none of them shine like they should... and stallone isnt the greatest action director either.

But that was the point: Put some of the greatest action stars ever together in the same movie and watch them merc people for 90 minutes.

I recommend you ignore the negative reviews because they are just different opinions. I highly recommend this movie because it delivers a good entertaining action movie. There is no such thing as a perfect movie and there will ALWAYS be backlash and negative reviews. I am amazed that this movie was even released, Stallone probably had a hard time getting this movie out and it shows that he really cares for the movie viewer to give us something of great entertainment. I saw this move and I thought it was one of the best movies this year because it didn't need a complex plot and an intelligent story line, or vampires, all it needed was good fun and great action. If your not willing to suspend your disbelief and enjoy a movie for what it is, fun, then movies are doomed. I say ignore the critics and see this movie and have fun.:word:

I saw Expendables last night...yeah I think my testicles doubled in size.

Review:

It wasn't very DEEP or complex but it delivered everything Sly promised and then some. A hell of a lot of fun. A mans movie that even WOMEN were enjoying, with lots of camaraderie that will put a smile on guys faces who hang out with like minded people too.

The Arnold and Bruce cameos were gold. Arnie looks old as **** but he was on the giving and receiving end of some funny jokes.
Sly is basically playing straight man leader but he really wrangled these guys and this movie into something fun and I was impressed with the punishment he took in this.

Eric Roberst is a real weasel as the rogue CIA agent. Rourke is doing the typical wise man/confidante thing but he's entertaining to watch. Jet Li is cool in his action scenes but he gets to have some funny moments. The movie is full of cliche's but Sly makes them work FOR the film in this case.

Loved Jet and Dolphs throw downs and Dolph was really dishing out the one liners. No doubt in my mind now that HE was the spark that made Universal Soldier ignite years ago.

I've always like Statham but that bastard made me love him in this movie. His got a lot of charm and he and Stallone have great chemistry.

Terry Crews is funny and a ****ing monster. That BFG he was using at the end got cheers from the audience. Sly knew how to use Randy Couture right too. Austin was big and intimidating as Paine. Again Sly used him right. And **** it was cool to see Gary Daniels even if it was in a smaller part as one of Roberts henchmen. I wonder if JCVD was up for Daniels role or Dolphs initially?

Looking at the experienced actors and the just well known tough guys from other professions its clear Sly was going for a cast that more than anything could be credible kicking ass and being intimidating. And he made a SMART move early on dropping 50 Cent from the Hale Caesar role and hiring Crews. 50 would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

The strafing run on the pier and gasoline dump and ignition was bad as hell. I was wondering why Statham was climbing into the nose of the plane but it was just a really cool payoff.

Everytime I thought "man I wish this would happen" it DID. Sly made this movie with the intended audience in mind. I wanted to see Statham and Li fight Gary Daniels and Sly made it happen. same with Couture vs Austin. I wanted to see Dolph fight Jet and Sly made it happen. I wanted to see Sly fight with the big heavy in Austin and it happened.

The only major beefs I had were I wish Sly had pulled the camera back some and kept it still for some of the action. There was also a WTF moment with Gunnar (Dolph) showing up a the end. That threw me for a loop at first but Barney said he missed his heart. But still
wtf.gif

I guess they saw Gunnar as their brother despite his problems and forgave the resident **** up. Even if he lived I found it hard to believe they'd take him back but oh well. part of me likes that they did the unexpected there and I want to see Dolph back with the team since he was still likable in this.

Bring on Expendables 2!

Here's an idea for The Expendables 2:

The Expendables (Barney Ross; Lee Christmas; Yin Yang; Hale Ceasar; Gunnar Jensen; Toll Road and Richard Jackson, played by Dwayne Johnson) are unknowingly hired by an old enemy (Christopher Waltz) and lured into a trap. Their identities are exposed and they are framed for a crime they did not commit, prompting the head of CIA (Harrison Ford) to mobilize his agents to capture the Expendables, as well as allowing their old enemy to hire Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his team (Jean-Claude Van Damme, Wesley Snipes, Danny Trejo, Vin Diesel and Scott Adkins) to capture them.

Awesomeness ensues.

Sounds like The Losers at first but it would be awesome

1) I usually agree with them too...but not all the time.

2) The reason we state the negeatives is, EVERYTHING ELSE IS ****ING AWESOME! There are a few downsides to the movie....but it's really kickass.

3) And Stallone rules at direction action.

It was great Mindless action flick that delivered on just about every level i expected.

I grew a second dick and added 50 pounds of muscle onto my body just by watching this manly movie of manliness.

Not only do I agree with you, I will go so far as to say that Paramount should hire Stallone to direct a rebooted G.I. JOE movie.
What? No....GI JOE should be kiddy and fun. Should be way better then ROC, but it shouldnt be gitty and intense...:o

:yay:

I'm glad this movie won the weekend box office. I'll be there for any sequels this gets.

Saw this one today. Good action movie, as expected, nothing more.

Now let's hope we get a sequel! Anyone know when Arnie gets out of being governer? This year or next year?

I gave it a 6 out of 10.
It was fun seeing all of those guys together, but that was really the only bright spot. There was virtually no story, and it was bad acting, dialogue and editing (the cuts were so choppy, I couldn't tell who was fighting many times). Sure, It was exactly what I expected an 80's action movie reunion to be...but that doesn't mean I cut it slack for not being a good film.
Despite this it was still more entertaining than the other bad movie I saw this weekend. (I'm looking at YOU Scott Pilgrim).

Going to be many nublets running around with the AA-12 on the C.O.D. tonight! Ha.

This movie was everything I expected to be: mindless, 'splosion galore, and brutal man violence. So yeah, that's pretty fun stuff. I enjoyed it.

Bring on the sequel. Hopefully this 'mercenaries vibe' will get the gears cranking for an Army of Two film.

I agree. And I NEVER said it should be R rated. I'm pretty sure that Stallone could direct a fun PG-13 G.I. JOE movie. After all, he was RUMORED to have had a PG-13 cut for THE EXPENDABLES.

Thank God this was rated R. PG-13 the action would have been nowhere as cool.

I was surprised to see some women go to this too. When I walked out I heard two women behind me saying it didn't disapoint. Chicks dig mindless action too right? Just not in the same way guys do I think. My mom loves Predator for God sakes.

Sly talks about the sequel at THR.

It sounds like some of the current crew won't be in the sequel.

I'm guessing Jet Li since he's supposedly taking a break from action.

I just had a great thought regarding the sequel!

Without a doubt Sly needs to add Russell, Van Damme, Snipes, and The Rock to the cast for the sequel. Maybe even Jackie Chan.

However, you guys know who would be great to see in a cameo role in the sequel?

Clint Eastwood!

Granted he is a late 60's and 70's heavy action star, but he he has done kick ass work in the 80's and 90's and seeing him in Grand Torino was great as well.

Give the Bruce and Arnold more to do in the sequel and have Eastwood have a similar role to what Bruce and Arnold had in Expendables.

It would be great to see old Clint talk smack and chastise Sly, Bruce and Arnold in the sequel to Expendables.

Make it happen Sly!

Get the great CLINT EASTWOOD to be in the sequel!
