Spill.com sorta turned me off of seeing this... and i usually agree or understand their critiques on movies..

i keep hearing the same negatives from everyone... and no positives.

it just seems people liked it because they see their favorite action stars together. But whats the point if none of them shine like they should... and stallone isnt the greatest action director either.

the spill guys are fun to listen to but i don't always agree with them . the entire cast each got moments to shine , li and lundren in the middle , the entire team in the last act , statham the entire movie . i think they were expecting the first ten minutes to be expanded over the entire course of the movie and that's what dissapointed them. this film isn't a masterpiece but it is really enjoyable and you shouldn't pass it up.

It would be too much to follow and you'd have twelve guys killing useless hencemen . couture vs austin was one of the best parts of the movie , i'm hoping for team vs team

Either way would be cool.

Just as long as the sequel is a bit longer than The Expendables.

5/5!!!

This was a damn good action movie with a lot of heart to it. REALLY hope there is a sequel!!!

Can anyone see a potential sequel running into financial issues? Pretty much ever cast member aside from stalone maybe, will want a pay raise. Willis and schwarzenneger i believe did their cameo for free but i doubt a bigger role for them in a sequel will come at the same price. Not to mention if someone like dwayne johnson is added.

The cast all did it for massively reduced salaries. That's why Danny Trejo dropped out, he wanted more money (because he's smaller!).

Basically my idea for the sequel is that Blackwater want revenge for
Paine and The Brit
being killed so they sent a team to hunt down and kill The Expendables and Mr. Church.

Yeah they took reduced salaries due to the the fact many had not worked in years or anything too prominent, as well they probably didn't have too much faith in it being a hit. This movie is on track to be a big to moderate hit trust me they will definitely start demanding more for the sequel.

Salary issues have derailed movies more than once.

Statham and Li are prominent. Li's last movie made $400 million worldwide, Stath is peaking. Couture and Crews receiving pay rises likely wont mean diddly. Several cast members wont be back. The actors who've confirmed their intention to be in the second one, Wesley Snipes, Scott Adkins and Thomas Jane are the kind of guys who don't mind reduced salaries.

Huh?

If they "confirm their intention to be in the second one" fine...but did Sly even say he wants them to begin with?

just saw it the movie... the action was indeed better than i thought it would be.

pretty much the gore a violence made the movie a success... otherwise it would just have failed on every level. Jet Li's lethal neck breaking kick and terry crews saving the day with that awesomely huge gun made the movie for me.

there's enough good in this movie to out weighed the onslaught of awfulness.
and boy was there awfulness.. lol

mickey rourkes speech muddled through his face lift made me want to fall asleep...stupid idea whoever put that in there. And the mexican detective from dexter as the general was hilariously bad. CG steve austin on fire. So many terrible moments...

7.5 out of 10 for me... wont be watching it again though

Sly offered roles to Snipes and Adkins for the first one but neither could do it because of their own (personal for Adkins and legal for Snipes) reasons.

Thomas Jane said he's met with Sly for a role in the sequel at Comic Con.

Sly basically paid for this movie with pocket change, you realize that yes? And MOST of the actors in the movie did it because Sly convinced them to man up and make the manliess movie of all time.

Plus, now a days the REAL money is off the BACKEND sales anyway, not upfront amounts.

None of these dudes need the money. It's never been about the paycheck for this film.

I agree, money is definitely not the reason any of these guys are doing this movie.

Saw the movie with the girlfriend on Saturday. I really enjoyed it. It was exactly what it set out to be, and didn't fall short or masquerade as anything bigger. The acting wasn't too great, and I thought the dialog was hit-and-miss. I thought the best written, most well-acted, well-shot scene was Tool's monologue about the woman on the bridge. That one bit of the movie provided the heart and soul to carry the rest of the film through to the end. That one scene made Rourke's involvement worth it.

There's a lot of talk about the sequel. I would love to see the sequel happen. I just hope it doesn't become too bloated, with having certain actors involved for the sake of involvement. What I'd really see working is bringing new actors in as part of Trench's team. With Arnold being out of office by the time a sequel happens, it makes sense to have him involved that way. But, again, Sly really runs the risk of having too big an ensemble.

Turns out Arnie has another scene that was deleted. The dinner Barney and Trench were meant to have in 1,000 years:

haha....I read a story about how Sly had a party in the late 90's I think....and JCVD and Seagal were both there.

JCVD and Seagal almost got in a street fight apparently....and Seagal was being the bigger *****e out of the two and I read that Sly got pretty pissed at Seagal also.

I don't think Sly and Seagal are on good terms to this day.

To elaborate on Sly's story further - apparently Seagal had been ripping into Van Damme for the entire party but eventually Van Damme blew his top and offered Seagal a chance to settle their beef physically out on the lawn to which Seagal chickened out (or 'made his excuses' to quote Sly) and left the party.

Sly also says that by this time Van Damme was apoplectic with rage and wouldnt let it go so he followed Seagal to at least 2 nightclubs where he again offered to engage Seagal in a one on one fight but each time Seagul crapped himself and left.

Awesome photo - although I have to say that Arnie looks like he's having a little too much fun for it not to be a little suspect.

:hehe:

mickey rourkes speech muddled through his face lift

Just a pet peeve of mine, but Mickey Rourke hasn't had a facelift, he's had reconstructive surgery (his face was ruined during his boxing career).

That reminds me of the story of how Gene LaBelle kicked Seagal's butt on the set of a movie when he was being pissy towards the extras.

It's official....this is now my all time favorite action film. Ever.

And you know there will be a sequel. :)

I hope the sequel has a better plot and more character development for characters like Jet Li and Terry Crews. But with this being an action movie and story comes last I doubt that will happen. None the less I will be excited for a sequel! Also I read online that there is a deleted scene which is an extended scene with Sly, Bruce, and Arnold. I suppose it will be on the Blu Ray/DVD release. Anyone else hear this rumor?

Will The Expendables still be in American theaters by early October? I won't be able to see it until then.

I'm pretty sure his name was Trent Mousner...or something.

But regardless, Sly looks like Eric Roberts. :o
