Stand-Alone Movies Taika Waititi - Star Wars Movie

Taika Waititi - Star Wars Movie

No need for 2 threads though. ;)

Cool news but the surprise effect has been deluded by the previous reports regarding Taika’s involvement with SW. I’m definitely on board though.

Let’s see, I was excited for Ryan Johnson to do TLJ, I was excited for Lord and Miller to do Solo, I was excited for JJ to comeback to complete the sequel trilogy. I’ve been disappointed every single time. I’ll wait and see if they can even keep Taika.

Should everything pan out this movie will be weird and coloful and it will be awesome.

Like a Tales from Mos Eisley Cantnia

Heck we could see Korg and Miek randomly walk by as a cameo XD

I personally quite enjoy TLJ, but the overall issues with all the new films to me don't stem from any individual directors per say, it came from a clear lack of an overall plan. And they especially needed that for the legacy characters and where they wanted to take the story.

I hope they have that this time. Though if they're letting him make entirely new characters, I think it's all right to have more leeway and wiggle room.

Krysty Wilson-Cairns is most known for co-writing "1917" and the upcoming Edgar Wright project "Last Night in Soho".
Her projects consisted of the following genres.

Short, Drama, War
Animation, Short
Short, Comedy, Drama
Short, Family
Drama, Fantasy, Horror
Drama, War
Drama, Horror, Thriller
Crime, Drama, Mystery

Who’s up for taking bets on this one? Lol.

I wonder what SW film they'll release in 2022 because I doubt Taika will shoot this and Thor at the same time.

Wonder who’s gonna do that score. He worked with Giacchino on Jojo Rabbit, but I could see him making a more off-kilter choice.

This, though I did end up liking the final Solo movie we got quite a bit.

I want to get excited about Taika but just can't see it lasting.

I have a feeling, that Taika has a lot of creative freedom after his success with other Disney owned projects (Ragnarok, JoJo, Mandalorian) - if Kennedy wants to fire him due of creativity differences, she really needs to bring damn good reasons on the board.
Taika is Disney‘s most beloved director at this time, something like Nolan is for WB
And firing Taika might end up him doing his next project for the DCEU or WB

I don't think that's accurate.
But I get your point. I'm still skeptical, but we'll see

Filming for the new Star Wars movie to take place in the Highlands

Filming for the new Star Wars movie is to take place in the Highlands.

A crew will be flying in to Scotland to capture shots of the snow-capped mountains and scenic views.

Work will begin in December and is expected to last three days.

Plot details of the upcoming movie are being kept under wraps, but New Zealander Taika Waititi will direct the film.

He will also co-write with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who helped script the Oscar-nominated 1917 and Edgar Wright’s upcoming movie Last Night In Soho.

A source said: “It’s great that Star Wars have decided to use Scotland’s breathtaking scenery for some of their first production shots.

"The film is still a few years away thanks to the Covid crisis but it will be very exciting for fans to hear that the ball has started rolling on this highly anticipated movie.

“Filming will take place in the Highlands and will focus on the hills and surrounding areas.
"It will likely be a small crew and an assistant director heading to Scotland to film over three days.

“Star Wars is the latest in a long list of films to showcase Scotland and everything this beautiful country has to offer.”

In July, Disney announced several major blockbuster delays as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the next three Star Wars editions being pushed back.

The latest film, which was due to be released in 2022, will now be screened in December 2023, with the following instalments in 2025 and 2027.

A Highland council spokesman said: “The council’s film office welcomes a range of productions to Highland, who in turn bring significant economic benefits to the area as they use local facilities and services.

“It is particularly welcome to see an increase in interest in Highland at the moment as many productions are unable to film overseas and are looking for different and high-quality locations in the UK.”

A Screen Scotland spokeswoman said: “As we provide a confidential locations service to film and TV productions looking to film in Scotland, we can’t comment on discussions about specific productions until or unless we’re able to.”

Star Wars is just the latest action blockbuster movie to be filmed in Scotland in recent years. In 2017, parts of the penultimate movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series, Avengers: Infinity War, were filmed in Edinburgh.

Hopefully Waititi can push onto greater heights.

Untitled Taika Waititi Film

A brand-new Star Wars feature with acclaimed filmmaker and Academy Award-winner Taika Waititi is in development. “Taika’s approach to Star Wars will be fresh, unexpected, and…unique,” said Kennedy. “His enormous talent and sense of humor will ensure that audiences are in for an unforgettable ride.”
