The Dark Knight TDK Direct to DVD Prequel

Because people always go of on tangents in these forums...

The prequel toon sounds interesting.

Awesome, hadn't heard this before. I like that they're filling in the gaps.

An interesting idea with this is...

What if they used this TDK prequel to introduce rogues that Nolan otherwise wouldn't use in the films?

That way, we get to see rogues like Mr. Freeze and The Mad Hatter done in Batman Begins style.

And, that could add to TDK. In TDK, Batman would have a larger reputation than in Begins, and it could be because of the villains he took down in the animated DTV.

It wouldn't affect the films for people who either don't find out about the DTV or don't care, but it would be a nice treat for hardcore Batman and Begins fans that are going to go and buy it.

I think it would be a really cool idea. That way Nolan just focuses on the villains he wants to use, and the fans get the Nolan-ized versions of rogues who would otherwise never see the light of day, be it because of their outrageousness (Clayface, Man-Bat) or the lackluster interpretations of Bat-films past (Freeze, Poison Ivy)

Yes to BatMan cartoon based between BatMan Begins and The Dark Knight; HELL NO to the fact that it's gonna be anime.:cmad: It would be better if they did it in the style of BatMan TAS or the SpiderMan cartoon series; sorry but anything from DC Comics or Marvel should be left alone when being tampered with a style such as anime.

I don't know. How much time is supposed to have passed since BB to TDK? Can't be that long really. I just don't get the time scale.

I'm not really sure I'd want another batman cartoon out atm. I've just got used to the The Batman style. Even thought I damn well know they moved things along too quickly.

The only thing I, or any of us can do is wait and watch it. If it sucks, tough really.

I hope it turns out good. Not a big fan of Anime.

Anyone know if Bale, Ledger, etc will be voice acting?

If the visual conception is something like Animatrix or Van Helsing London Assignment, it will be a good start

Depending on who does the voice work and who writes it is the last big part before getting more approval

This does seem interesting. I would guess not much would be going on in between, maybe a month or two at tops?

I wonder if they're going to do another DTV movie between TD and BB3?

I wish they would just use the Batman TAS style instead, we need Bruce Timm and Paul Dini on this, please. :(

I am so sick and tired of Batman: TAS. Yes, the show was good - but so was Moses, and yet I am not trying to resurrect his decaying body, now am I?

Wait...bad example.

Norm speaks heresy. Someone take care of this. :(

I am tired of Timm/Dini's Batman being the only watchable cartoon adaptation. Now I would love to see more Timm/Dini on the air - I would die for a Green Arrow/Flash/Green Lantern show. I just don't want to see the art style used for this completely different universe.

For this same reason I am upset that they are using the Dini/Timm style for the Death of Superman movie. Either make it apart of the existing Universe or change the look :cmad:

It e cool iif they used the same animation style as the Spawn series.

I've stated this before and very much agree that the Spawn animation style would be amazing for Batman. Maybe not make it look so Todd McFarlane-ish, but something dark and gritty. Although...

I think this whole prequel to TDK is a fluke.

They need Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Shinichiro Watanabe, and Peter Chung working on it. It should be an anthology. Besides, I seriously doubt Dini and Timm would want to help with Nolan's version of Batman-they like their own version the best and wouldn't want to stray away from that. I guarantee you WILL NOT see them attached to this project.

if it was announced Peter Chung was doing the animation, I would totally **** myself :o

its supposed to b enough time to where gordon's infante in BB becomes oh, my guess is 6 or 7.

He did the animation for the Riddick dvd tie-in and he also did the last short on the Animatrix, so it might not be too far off a guess.

yeah it all is going to ride on the style really. if it's too cartoon like it's going to take me out of it, but if it's more sphisticated anime it could be great. I also hope that Nolan is heavily involved so that it feels very cohesive. Animatrix was a let down mainly because it shifted through so many stories and styles, you couldn't sink your teeth into it really...

As the resident Star Wars guy, I just wanted to weigh in on this.

1.) People who prefer the OT over the PT almost always do it for nostalgia or for the sake of the OT catapulting SFX into the future.

2.) People who prefer the PT over the OT almost always do it for the superior effects and the more "polished" veneer.

3.) Anyone who tries to say that one SW trilogy is better than the other is probably confused; the truth is that both are deeply flawed and both are deeply wonderful. That's my objective opinion, anyway.

4.) Snootch to tha nootch.

Just this one and I'm done off-topicing (just can't help talking about SW).
1,2,3. Agreed, but not 100%. It can be that they just prefer one over the other. Whenever I start watching a SW movie, I end up watching the whole Saga.
Still, I like the Prequels better, although, like you said, I can find the same number of flaws (and magic) in both. Now, I will admit that sometimes I just do it as a reaction to nostalgic OT fans.
But, at the end of the day, when I compare SW to other movies, I like all 6 of them equally. When I compare them with each other, I just like 2 of the Prequels and 1 of the Originals as my top 3, and my least favorite SW film is an Original one (Ep4). It's simple, really.
4.Don't f**ck with the Jedi Master, son (Hamill ruled in that film)!

Aaaaaaand, I'm done.
On topic now, I don't mind anime-style animation, however I haven't seen a "westernised" (is that even a word) anime-style cartoon that I've found successful, so I'm a bit reserved. Still, the most important factor for me will be the story and voice acting (if we get the actors from the movie, the better). Good animation will be a very good bonus, but will not make or break this one for me.
