The Dark Knight TDK Nearly Upon Us: A SHH Reflection Thread

the best parts were around ledger s
casting
-everybody making homo joker jokes
saying this is a bad choice this that:o
I remember telling people to watch monsters ball, four feathers and patriot and then see if you think hes bad

But I admit I was indifferent, I just felt he would do a job that nolan pushed and it would be good because of that
I had no idea he would be doing this unique of a performance I was thinking alot more low key

The first joker pic
Wholey moley we went nuts off it
I liked the grewsomeness of the first pic, but I hated the black eyes
suffice to say it the look has grown on me and most I beleive and I think it would be very hard to make a better looking joker to fit nolans batman universe

The first trailer\teaser every1 thought joker was gonna be a texan

-the first shot of the batsuit of its sucking
and yeah it still sucks but just not as bad

the ugly 2$ (stuntment) batsuit pictures form some1s backyard people thought it would look like that in the movie

footage of various chicago screening
the batmobile rooftop and party crashing were the best thanks to I forget their names but Im sure you guys rememeber

the first pics of the people who painted their faces Ill never forget that cubby kids pic lol

2nd trailer
-the most excitement filled week of this whole wait
made alot of our dreams come true

-heaths death- still leaves a hole in my stomach , was soo odd the movie I was hyping and talking about everyday with people at school and online then in the middle of nowere the star of the show dies.

- the i am legend imax prologue debut knocked me off my seat and raised a million questions on what direction the movie is going

-two facepic comes out, idiodic complains on how that it will look the exact same in movie, looks alot more polished in the bootlegged shots

-third trailer
-full intact clips come and that along with the reviews settles any concern I had for the film

-First reviews come out and put all the concerns about the movie to ease

Now the one week of waiting
I consider myself lucky to have seen all the footage and pictures on SHH I thanks youse all

now we eagerly anticipate the movie

Well here we are...hard to believe the ride it's been.

Despite "Batman Begins" succeeding in resurrecting the franchise and character, one thing was certain...for all fans, eyes were pointed to the future. To the imminent sequel.

First there were the rumors that flew.

It would be called "Batman Continues"
Penguin and Black Mask will be featured...
Who could possibly play the Joker?

The names came soon after.

Adrien Brody, Crispin Glover, Paul Bettany...until finally.

HEATH LEDGER.

At first, most were skeptical. Could the guy from "A Knights Tale" and "10 Things I Hate About You" make any sort of impact on the level of Nicholson?

Only time would tell...and tell it did.

The odyssey of production was a long one. A journey where anything could happen, and it most often is the case with films inas much anticipation as this particular one.

First there was the Viral Marketing:

WHY SO SERIOUS?

We collectively held our breaths during the Scavenger Hunt at Comic Con 07 as Jokers all painted up roamed the streets while we found clues online and through phone numbers and AIM (Yep, I started that giant IM experiment...great fun lol).

And we were rewarded with the most teasing Teaser trailer EVER:

[YT]UWw0ov-cAUg[/YT]

We watched in pain staking agony as a little Pumpkin baptized as 'Rory' decomposed more and more as each day passed.

We longed for the Joker to appear so we could "See Him In December."

Then "I Am Legend" hit...and no one could care less about the exploits of Will Smith:

Through it all, the discussions increased in quantity, if not all together quality...

The New Batsuit

"It's so cool!"
"It's too busy!"
"It looks like Robocop!"
"Wait until it's lit in the film!"

batcycle.jpg

The Bat-Pod

"What the heck?"
"Totally Bad Ass!"
"No way that thing could work in the real world!"
"I WANT ONE!"

i_believe_in_harvey_dent.jpg

Aaron Eckhart

"What a great choice!"
"I Loved 'Thank You For Smoking!"
"Harvey Dent isn't Blonde!"
"What's his Two-Face going to look like!"

and of course...

...

"THANK GOD!!!"

------

Throughout the months, we waited and we watched. Through it all we were given incredible posters, tantalizing clips, one amazing TV Spot after another...and a plethora of dialogue...making it one of the most quotable Batman films...and it wasn't even released yet:

"This town deserves a better class of criminal...and I'm gonna give it to them!"

"A little fight in ya...I like THAT."
"Then you're gonna love me!"

"WHY SO SERIOUS!"

"Any psychotic ex boyfriends I should be aware of?"
"Oh you have no idea..."

"I Believe in Harvey Dent."

"I'm a man of my word!"

tdk-apr25-new-dark-knight-poster201949id1a.jpg

"Never start with the head, the victim get's all fuzzy!"

"When the chips are down...these civilized people will eat each other!"

"I've seen now what I have to become to stop men like him."

"I was meant to inspire good...NOT madness..."

"Don't make me your only hope for a normal life."

"To them...you're just a freak. LIKE ME!"

---------------

We also endured tragedy...loss had been present on the set of the film, but the loss of Heath was a significant one. To this day, and with the release of the film, it's hard to remember that he's ultimately gone despite the anticipation to see him on the screen in a role that has unanimously been praised for its bold viceralness and imaginative portrayal. But he will forever live on through the legacy of Nolan's Batman universe and in our hearts as a milestone in the elaborate history of the Joker character for years to come.

-----------

All in all we've been through a lot on this particular production.

From cluttered Batsuits to obnoxiously slow pumpkins...From the "Perma-White" arguement to more digital timers and global coordinates than you can shake the Bank Managers shotgun at...

From a 'Calling Card' in the final scene of "Begins" to July 18th ... the ride has certainly been one to remember.

And as a proud member of the Super Hero Hype I will say only this.

It has been an privelege...and an honor to follow the creation of this dazzling comic book spectacle with the finest Batman fans I've ever known on and off the internet. You all are a truly unique breed of fan, and I cherish every day I can follow this crazy world of comic book movies with each and every one of you.

----

TDK...FTW

Let's hope the ride for "BB3" is just as enjoyable...if not more so!

CFE

Hell Yeah! Well said.

Everyone has pretty much covered everything. Its been a really fun trip. I missed all the action in '89 because I was just born, I'm glad I got to experience this. Thanks to everyone for a good time!

I couldn't find it in the wiki, but does anybody remember what part of the viral led to the picture of the Joker holding the knife to Rachel?

It's been fun. Coming on here for the latest reveals and developments. Staying up late for bootleg trailers. Being in awe of new pics. What do you say we do this again when production on B3 gets goin' eh guys?:word:

One week left. Just one more week. I already have my tickets for the midngiht show and will be here about 3am Thursday morning to join up with the first group getting back to discuss the movie. The culmination of our 3 yr quest.

The San Diego Comic Con scavenger hunt. We ran around the city with clown paint on like a big bunch of *******s meanwhile the viewer at home was getting all the goods.

...well, we did get Joker goon masks.

It was one of the WSS Comic Con pages. There were a lot of pages in that, so I have no idea which page it was, but it was definitely from Comic Con.

And it's in the Wiki, for sure. :oldrazz: You just have to dig for that one.

I remember the reaction after every trailer or major poster and/or viral marketing item. I also remember saying after my obsessive hype for the Spider-Man movies, X-Men movies and Batman Begins I would not do it for The Dark Knight and stay away from the spoiler sections. Two weeks before the movie comes out I caved. :p :(

i actually thought Ledger deaths was just a joke, and i think a lot of people thought that too, like a viral marketing thing that just went way to far..

i remember the first thread pertaining to his death was locked because no one believed it.

I thought the exact same thing. I remember posting it and being flamed immediately as if I were being disrespectful or something. It just seemed so odd to me that someone playing The Joker in a Batman movie right during the middle of so much viral marketing would just suddenly die a tragic death like that.

I seriously thought it was some sick joke and/or a marketing stunt.

Indeed, it was quite rather inconvenient.

I'll always remember "Brokebat Mountain" jokes made by people attempting to look clever, in order to hide their mental deficiencies. It was convenient for me, because it allowed me to catalogue the intellectually worthless, so I knew who to avoid talking to.

I agree. If one is to compartmentalise society, one should do so on the basis of cognitive capacity, as opposed to race, gender or age. While although one simply cannot help one's race or age (gender is a rather more grey area), one can always improve on one's intellectual abilities, or at least hide the verisimilitude of one's ignorance by avoiding such scurrilous allusions to Ledger's former cinematic roles.

This journey has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It really has turned a movie into a film into an experience. One of my fondest memories is one I'll always have: those late nights in Jow Forums, waiting for Rory the Pumpkin to rot away, making invaluable friends (Carnotaur3, Solidus, batman11, i'm referring to you)..waiting for the next viral site to pop up (and trying to find more in the process)..Ledger's death (RIP)..and let's not forget Conway Wickliffe (condolensces on behalf of the Hype)..and here's to the memories to come: Academy Award nominations for Ledger and Nolan (hopefully!)

Guys, it's been one hell of a ride, one that i'll never forget, and one that should never be forgotten. Ladies, Gentlemen...to the theaters!!

Oh, and mods...after the virals are over, could you leave the Viral Thread up? There's some historic stuff in there

I missed this back then......what happened with Alberquerque?
All the cities were done with their tasks except for Albuquerque, and it seemed to take hours.

Maybe it was only one hour, but they were the LAST ONES, so everyone was like :cmad: :cmad: :cmad:

I can definately see how that would raise alot of anger flags......

Denver also took a long time.
