Yes.

Let the previous TDKR vs Avengers thread be a lesson guys. No trolling by making new polls to rehash the same arguments. They will just be closed. If you want to discuss those movies, just use this thread. We already have a Nolan vs Whedon thing going here. Keep it here. Also, no name calling in these debates. From this point on, full on infractions without warnings if you guys flame others within the confines of this discussion. You've had warnings for over 2 years on this DC vs Marvel crap. Learn from it and be more mature and respectful of others.

Because, dingus, that's what the general audience does on social media with attractive characters. All of the love on the internet for Loki is because "he's hawt" that doesn't take away from his well layer portrayal in 3 films. Same with The Doctor, or Sherlock. All popular characters with huge "their hawt" followings. Just because people comment on looks doesn't mean they only like the character for said looks or can't look beyond to how the character is presented. You're general audience thing is so beyond weak. The GA rarely looks beyond the surface of ANYTHING whether it's plot/character/symbolism etc. That's why they are the GA. I'm not insulting them, not everybody needs to love and dissect films, but most people watch movies for a simple escape and entertainment and never take the time to really assess things. They want the surface thrill, the surface emotion.

I could easily turn your argument against you. What does the general audience say about the Joker outside of "he's crazy and fun?" All they do is say "Heath Ledger was awesome" and that's it. You don't see them commenting on the meaning of the character and what his role in the narrative plays on a thematic level do you? No, I thought not. It's all "The Joker is crazy wicked insane!" Nothing more. Does that mean there is nothing to the character? No, of course not. What does the GA say about The Matrix? It has insane action. That's it. They don't go into the philosophical miasma of the plot, just the cool factor. I could go on and on....

You didn't read the six articles I linked/quoted did you? Articles analyzing and assessing the character? I've never seen someone so blatantly ignore things right in front of their face just to further their weak argument.

I think it has more to do with the fact that, since LOST IN TRANSLATION, most people think of Scarlett in terms of how 'hot' her body is and nothing else even when, in TA, they're given more than just that.

People can give Scarlett credit, but it's going to be for movies like the aforementioned Lost in Translation, as well as Match Point, Vicky Christina Barcelona, even her vocal performance in Her.

Those are all movies from filmmakers trying to do something more than cast her in tight black leather.

Sure the continuity is better in The Avengers, and the Avengers is also a better film than any of the monster mashups. Nobody's saying that it isn't. But as a concept The Avengers isn't nearly as revolutionary as some fans like to believe.

'Revolutionary' might not be the right word, but seeing as how WB Fox and Sony are all rethinking the way they make comic book movies, I'd say it's pretty significant.
Sure crossover films might be nothing new, but show me one crossover and ensemble film that was done even half as well as the Avengers and was even near as successful.

Easily the Dark Knight.

I have no interest in watching The Avengers again

Ouch! Most of my friends and family share the same view as you do. I have to watch Avengers all by myself...

Yeah. She was good in The Avengers, but that's not even close to one of her better performances.

Scarlett is definitely a good actress, but Avengers/Marvel movies don't do her talent justice. Even if a Black Widow movie gets up (which I doubt) I don't think it will ever be true indication of the type of actress she is.

I agree...but she was great in Avengers...maybe a BW movie would give her more to play with.

With me and my friends its the opposite. Different strokes for different folks. Watching the dark knight used to get my wife really annoyed and she would go on about it problems but Avengers would improve everyone's mood and get them talking about it again.

The Dark Knight all day, night, week, month, year, space time continuum etc.

I loved, loved The Avengers when it came out. Thought there was something off about it when I watched on Bluray. Tried it again and just can't sit through it.

I'll have another go pre-AoU, but it's not great.

The Dark Knight.

The Avengers on watching it again recently has become one of those big movies I enjoyed greatly in the cinema but diminishes when viewing it again at home months later. As I once stated on these forums it's probably the best 'light' action oriented blockbuster we've had in years but that standard has fallen so much by the wayside that it's not much of a compliment.

Funny how so many talk about The Avengers not looking as good in subsequent views, seeming like something's missing, i've actually been having that problem with it since the first time i watched it, it just felt a little hollow for me, for some reason.

Both these films have aged well for me. I can pop TDK or Avengers in my blu ray and watch them no problem. Love both these movies.

Me too. No emotional connection for me just scenes happening and once ended that was it, no meaning or lasting impact

This baffles me, as I find The Avengers has loads more heart than TDK.

I kinda agree with this to a degree, at least from a creative perspective. Whilst TDK is the better overall of the two it was made with the intention of being a film not specifically a superhero film. Avengers is a celebration of superhero films and there's a clear desire to give all the characters a time to shine and to fully embrace the fantastical nature of superheroes. TDK is a lot colder in relation to the genre, part of that is due to the story, part of that is due to Nolan stripping away as many of the fantastical elements as he could in order for the realistic setting to work, that's not to say there wasn't a desire to produce a good film, but the focus wasn't to embrace the traditions of the genre, if anything it was an attempt to redefine the genre which was done to great effect.

The dark Knight Is a classic In my book. And I still say It was subbed except for Ledger at oscars. And tragic hting Is If he hadn't died they probally would have snubbed him.

Yeah, having watched TDK again I'm reminded as to just how engaging a story it actually is. It really doesn't belong in the superhero genre in my humble opinion, it's too different from anything before or after it and honestly it's not fair to compare other superhero films to it. It's a crime drama first and foremost, it's barely even a superhero film to be honest, it just sort of just has a place all to itself. It's funny, for years I couldn't understand why people didn't think it was a good Batman film but now I understand what they mean - it's not a Batman film, it's a film that just happens to have Batman in it.

The Dark Knight, once and forever.

I'll never forget the theater experience I had with that movie. I was intrigued after BB and had started to get into batman. I hadn't been following the movie that closely, but thought the trailers/posters were awesome. I had pretty decent expectations. When I saw it, I was blown away. I literally sat there and thought "I can't believe how awesome this is." It was just so thrilling and I couldn't wait to see what the Joker did next. I saw it five times in the theater and loved each time. I've wished for another cinema experience like that to happen, but have yet to find it.
