Infinity War "That Up There... That's The Endgame." - The Robert Downey, Jr. / Iron Man Thread

Though I love Cheadle, I gotta say MCU did Howard so wrong over Iron Man 2.

According to him, Downey Jr. was the cause of it and didn't help him out. Years ago of course, but still cold blooded.

I actually prefer Howard to Cheadle. I dont know, maybe because i was so hyped to see Howard finally become War Machine only to learn about Cheadle replacing him.

I miss the “weight” of actual prop suits.

This looks more believable than the mark 50. Yeah I know we saw some practical suit set pics awhile back.

I guess from a movie point of view technology has advanced a lot. Tony is using cutting edge nano technology now. The armor is almost like super thin skin

Since RDJ is out after Avengers 4 we probably won’t see the armors in the movies advance to this level

Its probably because his entire suite now is just CGI. Which sucks. Hell even when he has his helmet off he gets floating head syndrome.

It's kinda funny imagining if say an Idris Elba had the role. He looks like he could have done really well, but only if the writing allowed Rhodes to be more than a sidekick.

I actually never cared for Howard as an actor prior to him even getting casted in Iron Man...so him getting recasted was a plus in my eye.

If Stark goes out in IW/A4, I hope he goes out in style after all he's contributed to the MCU.

After they cast Cheadle I liked Howard even more. I was a big fan of comics Rhodes and Cheadle just seems so small in the role. Not a huge issue since in the MCU War Machine is a very minor character, but man Cheadle looks puny.

Like I said thats just because Rhodes in the comics is ripped.

It is quite a mystery why they cast Cheadle. I love the guy, but he ain't an action hero.

He asked for Downey type money, from memory. He did that to himself.

It'd be like Mackie demanding the same paycheck as Evans for CW, or the guy playing Sterns in TIH wanting Norton money or something. Marvel was a startup studio doing things as cheaply as possible back in '08, they're not going to be throwing double-digit millions at supporting actors.

You people are confusing the facts about Howard.

First of all Downey didn't cause any problems for Howard.

Secondly, Howard was contracted a certain amount for 3 films and Marvel didn't want to pay him what was promised for the second film. Howard only wanted what he was legally contracted to get but Marvel no longer wanted to because they believed after the success of the first film IM2 would be a hit with or without Howard.

Thirdly, Howard tried to get help from Downey but apparently Downey didn't get back to him for 3 months by which time it was too late.

Is this all according to Howard, though?

These things tend to come off a little different depending on the perspective. I can't really see Feige & the company financial types being willing to pay him less than initially promised because the movie was successful. Unwilling to pay a certain degree more, sure.

If they actually went back on an existing written agreement though, you'd figure he'd make more of a deal out of it. Actually legally, rather than some badmouthing in the press.

I actually heard Howard was getting paid more than Oscar Winner Gwyneth Paltrow. That's just crazy to me.

Howard was coming off quite a bit of success back then and was one if the highest paid if not the highest paid actor in the film.

Terrence Howard was the highest paid actor on Iron Man. Marvel didn't want to pay his salary, and I heard reports that Favs wasn't high on him.

He's Tony Stark. He goes out in style. See ending of any Iron Man film. :funny:

Supposedly, they payed Howard like $5 million for the first and were due to either pay him the same or even more for the sequel, but they decided they were gonna lowball him with $1 million; so he walked.

It's a very strange overall issue. I don't get why he didn't try to sue them for that.

From what I read, Howard simply said he backed Downey when he was up for the role of Stark. That Downey was such a risk that Howard offered to cut his salary to ensure he got the role. And that when they wanted to cut Howard's salary, Downey simply ignored him.

*Shrugs* It's no different to the last three times we've seen the guy on film. It sucks, but it's fine.

CGI doesn't look very good:

Even though i know this isnt fully finished yet, i m not very optimistic. Stark in the last few films has always had floating head syndrome unfortunately. Idk why Marvel just doesnt make an actual upper suit for scenes where he has his helmet off

It's probably easier for RDJ to do it this way. I am betting that is part of it.

I loved that booster he had for going into space.

Recall Howard came off 2007 with a Best Oscar nod and a fee leading man roles. Paltrow career was drying up around mid 2000s

I am sure it is, but with the money he is getting, i would have hoped he would just wear the damn thing lol. Maybe im just being picky, but if the CGI looks bad now, then in 5 years or so imagine how bad the scenes will look. Again, just a nitpick lol
