the 89th Annual Academy Awards - Part 1

Honestly, if you've seen the end of LaLa Land, tonight's ending kind of makes sense.

I wonder if Vegas is going crazy right now. How many people lost money on that?

On another note, I never understand when Best Picture and Best Director are not the same. I get it, different categories. It still doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

La La Land won Best director, actress, music, song and cinematography. But not Best Picture?

So you can snub a director.

I'm personally outraged that the bigots at the Academy stole the Oscar from La La Land and gave it to a less gay film.

:o

It caught fire during the award season "preview". When they start telling you what is going to be nominated before anything is nominated. It was a fire "contender", and then blew up in Jan.

Does the regular movie goer really care about that though? I thought the pull for the film was Gosling and Emma together and the musical aspect.

:wow: You're right!

"Sorry! Sorry! Everyone stop! The actual winner is Bryan Cranston. And Matt Damon. And Michael Fassbender and Eddie Redmayne. A four way tie! Crazy huh, Leo?"

I wish that actually happened last year.

They definitely care. Look at the box office and how tied it is to awards season .I don't think La La Land did huge money throughout the US, but the large hot spots made for these type of Oscar hopefuls. Emma and Ryan definitely helped.

Please God, have Matt Damon show up at Kimmel tomorrow and give him ****.

Well, unlike last year's Best Picture winner which I still haven't seen, I'm definitely going to watch Moonlight. Especially after all this.

Imagine if they accidentally gave Warren Beatty the hair and makeup envelope.

So this really was an envelope guy mistake?

That, and the accounting firm too (Ernst and Young I think). Theoretically, if this ever happens, someone from the accounting firm is supposed to run out on stage right away to stop everything to correct the mistake.

well as i predicted people are mad with casey affleck winning cant reward a man recently accused of sexual assault and not expect outrage

@calummarsh

In true form, La La Land only won Best Picture in a fantasy moment shared between former lovers imagining wistfully what might have been.

Jokes aside the La La Land guys handled the situation with dignity.

Imagine if they accidentally gave Warren Beatty the hair and makeup envelope.

:lmao: They'd have to stop making movies for a year if that happened. All movies. Everywhere.

This is 90% on Beatty. You don't get the wrong evelope and decide to guess the winner.

This is the Oscars version of the Montreal screwjob.

I'm surrpised, the bulk of Oscar nominated movies rarely seem to be huge hits, or are you just talking in context of what they are?

I had to read the end of La La Land to see how well it fits... Jesus Christ. :lmao:
