Absolutely. I also didn't like how the most interesting parts about Fernanda Torres' character seemed to happen off-screen. It almost functions like a four-hour movie that's been condensed to two hours and now feels incomplete but somewhat heavy. This could've either been much longer, shorter with a more cohesive angle, or even an epic miniseries.

Yeah and I get they want to give it more of a mystery to see if those things did happen or not but it leaves a lot of the movie lacking when it almost feels like they rushed into getting to know the family at the start. I thought the middle was at its strongest but yeah, this definitely has the bones of making it as an HBO miniseries instead of a movie.

My favorite part was the first act, I enjoyed how well-directed all the slice-of-life stuff was. There was a real sense of time and place and of the family unit. We just didn't get to know them as individuals, and that feels crucial to why the movie didn't work for me. Particularly, the father needed so much more. I was almost annoyed by how little the ending made me feel when the music swelled up, and it was supposed to be a whole thing. Still, plenty of good about the film, there are some great atmospheric scenes that I enjoyed (like the early interrogation in a tunnel), but this could've been so much more. No wonder it wasn't nominated for screenplay.

A source close to the Spanish actress informed Page Six that she will be sitting out the award ceremony in the wake of her resurfaced racist and anti-Muslim tweets.

However, Gason will be flying out to Los Angeles to attend the Oscars on March 2nd, where she is also nominated for the best actress award.

This comes after Gascon has already skipped the Critics Choice Awards, PGA Awards and the Goya Awards, as well as the BAFTAs in London last Sunday, where she was nominated for Leading Actress.

Why would she even bother?

I guess so she can spin the narrative but also of all the award shows, that one is gonna get her the most press, and one she thinks is worth spending her own money to fly to LA.

I'll be curious to see Netflix's response.

If she wants to spend her own money to attend an awards show where she won't win anything and be treated like a pariah, who's to stop her? :o

I’m sure she knows she ain’t winning, but I think it’s safe to say this is the only invite to the Oscars she’s ever gonna get, so hell I’d probably go too if I were a bigoted POS who blew up my career in a week. It’s the Oscars! But you know she won’t be talking to any press and will probably skip the red carpet altogether lol.

Agreed. Who do you guys think will get Best Actress instead? My money’s on Cynthia.

I got 11/17 right on my predictions

As an awards show, it was fine I guess. As much as I like Aidy Bryant, they could have gotten someone better to host. She was better last year tho. Sean Baker and Sean Wang probably gave out the best speeches of the day. Mikey Madison winning over Demi at the Indie Spirit Awards is a no-brainer since that show is home field advantage for Sean Baker but it still makes that race the most interesting race for the Oscars.

@Kane52630

Good Lord, Dr Umar would just have to be mad at me.
