The Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus appreciation thread

There is absolouly nothing bad about Molina's take on Ock. I personally felt that he captured the attitude and surprisingly enough the mannerisms of Octavius to the point where I felt I was watching a motion comic panel. However, the overall character was slightl let down by a lack of screen time and the horrendous script and crucial character flaws. The busted inhibitor chip could have been left out and thus made for a more entertaining Dr.Octopus. I feel as though we were robbed of ock's full character but in the end Molina's skills subdued the flaws that inflicted Ocs's character.

CoooOOoLL!!! Give it a hand to Mr Molina please!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, he is a great actor!

Oh yeah, Alfred Molina was very memorable as Doctor Octopus. When he was on-screen, he had an amazing presence.

Agreed. Though I strongly prefer the Doc Ock as presented in the comics to the one presented in the movie, there's no denying that Molina owned that role and made the film. I still get great joy and Ock-spiration from watching his scenes in SM2.

"James Bond" saying Spider-Man 2 had a horrendous script. The irony...

Dr. Octopus was the best part about Spider-Man 2, and Molina hit the nail on the head with his portrayal.

Unfortunately the whole inhibitor chip thing was unecessarily shoved in and severely weakened his motivation. The fact he was shoehorned in to an overdramatic love story was also too bad.

Love the look on his face when he says "Butterfingers"

Haha I love that!He does that "Oh no you didn't" head movement there :D

Alfred really nailed the role of Doc Ock. I loved his scenes whenever he was talking to his tentacles. The train fight was excellent and how he uses his tentacles to smack everybody to the walls of the train was awesome!

Doc Ock really went up on my list of favorite Spidey villains after I saw Spidey 2 for sure

Yeah, he looks exactly like Ock. Perfect casting. Right up there with J.K. Simmons and Willem Dafoe.

"Oops, butterfingers."
That smirk cracks me up every time.

I LOVED Otto in SM2. In fact, he was the reason I liked the movie. The arms were amazing, of course, and Alfred Molina was SO COOL!!!
Butterfingers! LOLOLOL!!!:woot::woot::woot:

Perfect casting. I think the only villain casting that has been questionable is Grace as Venom, but I bet he'll prove the doubters wrong next May. But Molina, like Dafoe was pitch perfect for the role.

And unlike Dafoe he had a much better screenplay that just didn't have him spout cliches (though he did say a few however) and got to play with much bigger toys for more cinematic showdown.s

In terms of compariosns to GG. I say they're about equal. In the comics, hands down Norman is Spidey's greatest foe. On film though, Norman had more depth and a better back story but his costume was awful, his action average and it was all charisma because the screenplay didn't let him shine. Molina had a much cooler look, better dialogue and much better action.

I have high hopes for Church to continue the top notch old school villain level of quality. And I know Franco will bring it to 3 and I think Grace most likely will too though.

I was extremely impressed when Willem DaFoe became the Green Goblin. But I was even more pumped when Alfred Molina came aboard for SM2. He had the look of Ock, and he is a fantastic actor, though he's not terribly famous. You should definitely check out some of his other work if you haven't already.

There are some rumors flyin around that Ock might have a part in a later SM movie. I don't know how the hell they're going to explain how he got out of the river, but if they come up with something halfway believable, I'll definitely be waiting in line to see that Spidey!

I agree on all the previous posts. Alfred Molina made a terrific job and for me it is the best comic book movie ever made until now (until Spidey 3 perhaps?)

Although, the scene of him I like more and hasn't been said, is the one where he's with Peter and his wife having dinner. Is such a great moment, where you really get to like the guy!!!

D!

I think the arms will pull him out of the river, cuz if he dies I'll throw a hissy fit.

Molina portrayed a great comic villain excellently on the big screen, and I loved it. The inhibitor chip stuff should have been scrapped, though: I like Doc Ock being an evil scientist willingly, not because of AI corrutping his brain.

But I like the idea of the tentacles having their own personalities!
