There's no way this movie will be anywhere close to Spider-Man 3 in terms of quality or reception. That movie is truly horrible. Not Green Lantern bad, but close. Seriously.

I meant in terms of critical reception. Spider-Man was only met with mixed reviews by most critics, but that's primarily because most critics could care less about how faithful it is to the source material, so all the retcons and such probably didn't affect their opinions much. The movie will be judged on its' own merits. Reception outside of that is, as you said, likely going to be more positive than SM3 ever was, unless this movie really *****s the bed in some way.
