No, he wasn't. Not even close. Uncle Ben's memory is practically non existent to him in favor of his boring parents. His own Aunt feels so ignored by him because of his parents obsession. He nonchalantly broke a promise to a dying man as the best kind of promises to break. He can't even figure out basic High School chemistry science, and his gf has to point out the obvious to him. He wears hoodies in class. He goes skateboarding. He stands up to bullies before he even gets his powers. He let his Uncle die over chocolate milk. He needs people to place cranes across the city for him to web swing, even though there are buildings all around him to web swing on. He creepily stalks Gwen everywhere she goes around the city.

I could go on and on but I don't want to dwell on the worst movie Spidey we've had on the day we got our first look at potentially the best movie Spidey.

This will be a substandard hype rap battle, but here goes.

He remembers his uncle, tried to avenge him for a while before that thread was dropped (I don't think even the writers know why).
He bought eggs to her near the end of the film, but his aunt feeling ignored was pretty early age Ultimate.
Can't say I saw him break his promise to any old man in any comic I read, so yeah, that still bothers me more for that reason.
Physics actually, and Peter did score a few Ds in Ultimate Spider-Man, and 616 needed tutoring from a few girls (Gwen offered tutoring him in one of the early issues of Amazing before her dad's death), so... pretty faithful, I believe.
He only wore a hoodie once, could be a nod to Ben Reilly's Scarlet-Spidey costume, but that's me grasping on straws here.
No comments on skateboards, or standing up to a bully before gaining powers.
It's not like he had a good reason to let the thief/burglar go in either 616 or Ultimate, faithful adaption if you ignore chocolate milk. (The first Raimi movie improved that bit)
Did he really need cranes? He was swinging fine without cranes, dunno what the writer(s) was/were thinking with cranes bit.
Yeah, everyone complaining about creepy stalker is right, but he did kinda stalk Gwen when she was girlfriend.

Ergo he doesn't remember his Uncle since that thread was dropped half way through TASM 1, and Uncle Ben ceased to be relevant in any significant way since.

I wasn't talking about bringing her eggs in TASM 1, I was talking about in 2 where Aunt May gets so upset that she breaks down in tears and has to remind his selfish ass that she raised him, and he's her son.

I don't care what they did in Ultimate Spider-Man. That's not the real Spider-Man. Would you accept a Doc Ock with Magneto powers because USM did it? Gwen-Carnage? As for Gwen offering him some tutoring, there's a big difference between Gwen offering him some tutoring for college level Science, and him having to watch Youtube vids of some comical dork about batteries, and Gwen having to point out basic 8th grade level Science to him.

His reason in 616 was much more believable as he believed he should just keep out of something that had nothing to do with him. He wasn't trying to score petty revenge over something as trivial as chocolate milk.

The reason they gave for the cranes was he had been shot. Which made no sense. How is web swinging off a building any more strenuous than doing it off a crane? It was illogical emotional fluff nonsense to show the citizens rallying to support him.

I think maybe the writers were just preoccupied with other plot threads, they had to drop it, it's a weird story decision, but at least he did try to find him, and not finding him makes me think of the issue of a guy taking a picture of Spider-Man without his mask, and Spider-Man has trouble after that tabloid guy eludes him.

His parents left him with his uncle when he was young, but still old enough to remember them, his curiosity is understandable, but it only made his aunt upset once. He mostly annoyed her with his bad attempts at keeping his id a secret from her and doing his Spidey things.

They said heads in back in 2010 they will take USM for inspiration, I know you're not a fan of that series, but it has a big influence they hinted at. And ok, no debate about the difference between college and high school level. I admit, the YouTube dork is funny for how silly it is.

Ok.

Yeah, we agree about the cranes, but it doesn't really display his character or abilities, it's people in the movie reaction, the stupidity of the idea, and how unreal that bit is in a movie attempting to be more grounded in reality.
He had been shot and was injured at that point.
Guess his quicker healing ability kicked in, after crane swing then, dude kicked the Lizard with his wounded leg and jumped on wall and such, almost didn't flinch.

Rosemarie Harris got A LOT more to do in the Raimi films with the Aunt May character. She felt like a fleshed out character in those, especially SM2.

"You can't fit ten pounds of **** into a five pound bag".

Ouch.

That scene was so ****ing weird. It just makes no sense.

Sally Fields speaks to the thinness of her 'character' in the movies. Hopefully more and more actors come out of the woodwork to spill the beans on the disaster these films were.

:whatever:

Well she can think whatever she wants, but I thought she did a great job with Aunt May. Her scene where she talks with Peter in TASM2 was one of the stand-out moments of the film, even for some people I know who really disliked it overall.

She is right. Sally version of Aunt May very boring and have hardly anything to do except ask Peter to get eggs lol.
How dare you say that! I thought her nurse training scenes were vitally important, as important as that wonderful plane sequence that everyone raves about. :o

The crane scene was a stupid scene. I mean Spidey needs cranes to swing despite being sky scrapers around him. He got shot in the leg but later he's kicking the lizard and all. I mean come on.

I still don't get why Aunt May was even in TASM2. You could pretty much remove her from the movie and it would have no impact on the plot.

Sally Field wasn't given much to do, but I would definitely argue that she was the best actor in both films.

If they had removed Aunt May's small role from the movie, you guys would probably complain about that too. :funny:

Um, yeah ... Because it's Aunt May. She shouldn't be cut from a Spider-Man movie.

The small role was dumb (in my opinion), and I would have been just as annoyed if she had not been in the movie at all. Why not give her something interesting to do? Her job at the hospital was so obviously tacked on.

They would have had more time for Aunt May if they hadn't dragged out the boring parents mystery.

True. Only because then we would have a fantasy of Aunt May's supposed role in our heads that wouldn't be utter ****.
