Ben was mentioned in the graduation party scene.
And thinking about it last night, Peter in this story didn't have it easy to find the killer, no convenient "hey that guy who killed the old guy in the street is cornered in a warehouse or is chased by the police in a car he stole from his victim who is not really his victim but the victim of his unassuming partner.", he was trying to find a guy in a city of millions, with specifics in common with many, but the tattoo is a unique mark.

And the parents plot is mentioned in trailers and posters.

Uncle Ben deserve more than passing mention from Aunt May. He more important than that.

It's not like Ben appeared or is mentioned once every 10 issues in the comics.

If May had more screen time, maybe then I'd agree with Ben needing more than a passing mention, but we can have a story without May or a mention of Ben, there are too many comics without May, I can live with a movie not having much of them.

Comic come out every month but movies come out every few years. Movie have more responsibility to emphasise Uncle Ben importance in their story.

Okay. I still strongly dislike the TASM movies. Don't get me wrong.

HOWEVER, I feel the need to apologize a little bit to them on some level. I just saw Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. TASM2 is twice the movie as BvS. Both movies suffer from very similar issues, but the TASM movies are far more competent. There, I said it.

So, because of this, I'm going to say something positive about each TASM movie.

1. TASM1: I love the scene where Spidey saves the kid in the car; especially the part where he gives the kid his mask and says "Put it on, it will make you stronger." I also like Peter's interaction with Aunt May at the end of the film; when he brings the eggs (wish there had been a better setup, but the scene itself is probably the strongest moment of acting in both movies, in my opinion. It's a good scene).

2. TASM2: Whenever I watch the part when Spidey helps the bullied kid on his invention thingy, I can't help but smile. It's a really cute scene. I also like that this movie attempted to do something interesting with the webshooters (don't like the whole "I need to consult YouTube to solve this" aspect, but I do like that there was some conflict involving the webshooters). And, of course, the costume is great.

Even though I have tons of problems with them, AT LEAST these movies gave me some moments to cling onto and admire on some level. Batman v Superman? I got nothing.

I'm sorry, TASM.

TASM was boring and TASM2 was a hot mess.

Not going to disagree with you on that at all, but ...

As much as I hate them, I don't think they're as bad as BvS. I have more positive things to say about the TASM movies than I do BvS.

I find it humorous when this happens. A new movie comes out (BvS, in this case), it's terrible, and then causes a sort of apologetic attitude toward previous horrible movies. I'm not trying to take away from your post, Leenie, it's just a trend I've noticed. The same thing happened when ASM2 came out. People were posting apologetic type entries towards SM3.

ASM2 for all its faults does have at least some degree of entertainment or at least a scene or two that you can rewatch and feel good about. BvS has practically nothing in comparison, save Batfleck and maybe Gadot.

The main issue I find, is that with both of those films, I have zero desire to see them ever again.

I personally have fun comparing similar movies. I swear while watching BvS all I could think was 'damn, this is ASM2 all over again, only worse'.

Of course. I was thinking the same, though, yes, BvS is the worse of the two films, it was a more impactful letdown for me with ASM2, cause I have zero emotional attachment to either Superman or Batman like I do with Spider-Man.

Sorry, but I'd still rather watch BvS than ASM2 (Not trying to turn this into a vs. thread or anything). At least BvS gave me Affleck's Batman (Though I have many issues with it) and Wonder Woman. ASM2 literally gave me NOTHING.

Also, while BvS has one over-the-top embarrassing villain (Eisenberg's Luthor)...ASM2 has THREE. (Rhino, Electro and Butt-Head Goblin)

The only thing in common between TASM 2 and BVS is that both films suffered because of "cinematic universe" and setting up future movies and conflicts became more important than the film itself.

I think the shared universe part were the least of their issues. Storylines, character representations were bigger problems.

That's exactly what I meant when I say "suffered". Because they didn't pay attention to those things, they were more interested in "what's next". If they didn't have WW in there, or any of the things planted for Justice League, the film focused just on Clark/Superman and Bruce/Batman, more character-driven, would've been much more interesting.

ASM 2 and BvS both terrible but BvS is worse because it ruin just about everything. ASM 2 at least have good Gwen Stacy. Snyder ruin all his main characters.

For me, ASM2 only has Gwen and Aunt May going for it. The rest is just a mess.

I agree with this. Spider-Man is my favourite superhero too.

Spider-Man is my favorite hero as well, so I'd say the TASM movies are more impactful to me as well ... But I cannot deny that I think BvS is a much worse film. I never once thought while watching the TASM movies that Marc Webb hated the characters (I think those movies mostly failed because of the studio wanting to shoehorn in everything while missing the big picture of the main character). With BvS, I can feel the disdain that Snyder has for many of the characters (especially with Superman). It's like Snyder held up two proud middle fingers towards the fans.

Also, maybe the TASM movies don't hurt so much anymore since Marvel Studios is working on Spidey now. With BvS, as of now, there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. I may be more of a Marvel kind of girl, but I still love DC, too. Seeing Superman and Batman together on the big screen for the first time should NOT have been such a bummer!

No need to apologize :cwink:

ASM2 had a little something for me but the bigger problem is I don't care to ever watch it again. It really sucks for me to say that about a Spider-Man film.

I agree with these, though I'll add that I got much satisfaction from Garfield as Spider-Man. His quips weren't always funny, sometimes placed poorly but he was incredibly kinetic in the suit, his delivery of lines, movements, etc. brought the character to life. Probably not the majority opinion but I greatly enjoyed his performance--even under the weight of a problematic and often ugly script.

I wouldn't say Marc hated the characters either, more like, didn't have a complete understanding of their core truth/essence. It was missing from almost every single one. The lack of Uncle Ben is probably the biggest argument to be made on this point--and may be a fault of the writers...but the ultimate responsibility is on the director.

Snyder claims to be a fan of the source and well-read, I think. But, honestly, based on his films...I find this difficult to believe. His characters border on gross negligence, imo.

Also, maybe the TASM movies don't hurt so much anymore since Marvel Studios is working on Spidey now. With BvS, as of now, there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Excellent point. Can you imagine if Sony was intent on stubbornly forging ahead with ASM3? Yikes.

I can't say with confidence that I 'love' DC, but what I do love more than anything is quality. And that has nothing to do with Marvel or DC or whoever, I just simply respond more to a higher standard. I may not be an outright DC fan but I do love Batman the Animated Series, Young Justice and just about everything from the DCAU, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Arkham games, and a few DC comics here and there. What do all those things have in common? They're all highly entertaining and made with great care. Quality, it's non-negotiable.

Spidey is a hero for all ages to enjoy, gotta show cool moments with him helping young ones, and make it cool.
Spider-Man 3 is the only movie you don't see him saving a kid in.

This part of you post sums up plenty of posts.

Aunt many lol. I don't think she do much in it. Just sort of there. Peter ignore her for most of movie.

Whoops.

Yes, she is a nothing character in both movies... but at least Field is very effective when she needs to be.
