The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 General Discussion - - Part 86

If Spider-Man 3, which sold 7 million units didn't get a DC. I don't see why TASM2 at 2 million units would.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. It felt like they threw almost all of Peter's complexity in favour of appeasing the fans who whined about it being different to the Raimi series. In the first movie it felt like Andrew was playing Peter Parker, whereas in the second movie he just felt like Andrew Garfield to me.

I really wish that Webb had stuck to his original vision for his Spider-man rather than bending to all the people who's main gripe with the movie was "rebooting too fast" or completely inaccurate Nolan comparisons.

Yeah... I REALLY liked the first Amazing Spiderman... Though, we could do without scenes like ripping a woman's shirt. That actually was pretty bad. Still, I'm happy with what we got and I'm more curious to know what sort of scenes they cut from the first movie (already saw some deleted scenes on the dvd/bluray; not sure if it's really all of them).

Wait I'm confused... ripping a woman's shirt?

I prefer TASM1 over the second film by far. It doesn't feel like the two movies take place in the same universe at all.

The part where Peter grabbed a woman's shirt and accidentally ripped it off with his ability to stick onto things.... We probably could've had better scenes than that.

I never really understood most of the hate of the first film. Granted, there actually some scenes that I get where there getting at and the villain could've been designed and written better. But the movie won me over with the casting, supporting characters, setting, music (to a lesser extent), Peter/Spiderman, and etc.

The Amazing Spiderman 2, however, is the biggest downgrade since Batman Forever.... And nearly as bad as Batman & Robin. I don't hate it as much as major critics do, and there were a lot of good ideas that could've made a third film.... But I still hate it. I even think it's the worst Spiderman film I've ever watched.

I'm beyond upset now.... Mostly because TASM2 was one of the biggest disappointments of my life. And I find the Marvel's Spiderman to be a mixed blessing. Hopefully, no one adapts the bad spiderman comics. No one deserves to sit through that.

Oh right on the subway. Yeah that was... interesting.

That was such a bad way to exhibit Peter's shock of discovering his powers. The whole scene was poorly conceptualized.

I mean I won't complain about the woman getting her shirt ripped off... but it was a pretty lame scene overall. The editing was also very sloppy and made it hard to watch.

I loved the scene in the subway, I had no problems with any of that stuff.

Even though the shirt ripping off did remind me of a similar moment in the parody film Superhero Movie. :funny:

Well... which is it? I don't even think most of the critics thought it was that bad, it got pretty mixed reviews overall. :p

Alright, so we have got a Marvel Spidey flick. Can't we use this thread to say something positive about the film so that we can let it be a haven for the pro-TASM2 guys instead of constantly rehashing the same B&R comparisons?

You guys got what you wanted. At least let us come over to these boards and show our appreciation for the movie.

It would be cool if Marc Webb answered some fan questions about what was supposed to happen next in the series.

Has Marc or Andrew released any kind of statement yet? I wonder if somebody got a soundbite from Emma Stone at the Oscars.

Nope and nope, I've been waiting and waiting to hear something from either of them, but nothing. :csad:

I'll keep my eyes open for something from Emma last night.

For Emma, she has plenty of other films to worry about besides Spidey. I am curious how Andrew feels though, Marc might be able to go back to do something with Fox perhaps.

Well, I'm fairly certain Andrew is disappointed. He's already expressed his disdain for Sony and 'their process' about shifting the script around and making a mess of the film. Andrew's a big Spidey fan, so to have his dream finally come true about actually being Spider-Man and then having it essentially ruined by those in control would dampen anyone's spirits. As a Spidey myself or even yourself, just imagine your reaction to how things turned out.

Marc IS going to be making a film for Fox. Maybe more. He already owed Fox a film prior to the start of making ASM2 but then a deal was struck to allow Marc to work on ASM2 and push back his obligations to Fox. I'm pretty sure that involved another film on top of the one he already was supposed to direct.

Just read my earlier post. TASM2 didn't exactly blow the doors off of home video. Sony would have to invest even more money. The only way was if TASM3 was going to come out.

I believe marc really has some great ideas for this series. i mean from the looks at the behind the scenes, deleted scenes, interviews, and featurettes he seemed to have a greater grasp on the character in most areas. i beieve he would've had another shot by himself to prove that he's not a bad director as everyone else says and andrew for not being a "hispter emo" as people accuse him of being. but as of right now that is not going to happen thanks to sony. i for one would hope they release a directors cut of this series because there are alot of things that would've made it more of a quality film staying close to the mythos.
Agreed with everything in this post.

I dunno, if they came out with complete director's cuts that included all the stuff that didn't make it into the final versions, I might buy them. But that's largely because I didn't buy either one of them when they came out.

I wouldn't be surprised if they never even got as far as a concrete plan for what was supposed to happen next.

l would just like to hear if Peter was ever going to find his Uncle's killer or if Norman was supposed to turn into the Goblin. I guess it doesn't matter anymore anyway.

The problem with Ben's killer is that there wasn't even a slight continuation of it from TASM1 to TASM2. There wasn't anything in the background that indicated the mystery would be unraveled at some point. The subplot sort of just died after TASM1, to put it frankly.

Norman's Goblin wouldn't have mattered to me anyways since Harry already killed Gwen.

Oh god Spider-knight came back again? He's like a boomerang. No matter how many times SHH throws him away he keeps coming back.
