The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - User Review Thread! - SPOILERS! - Part 5

Who thought it was a good idea? Who let that onto theatre screens? It's just a disgrace.

They could have just made him Otto Octavious, make him sadistic, all of a sudden, you introduce a character pretty seamlessly for the next film. But no, let's go for the cheap laugh and have to shoehorn in 4 villians for the next film!

I don't understand their worldbuilding.

Hey, at least we know there's still hope Kraven and Mysterio won't come from Oscorp.

What was Oscorp's plan for the sinister six before spidey came along? I thought in the comics they set up the sinister six to kill spidey, but this sinister six seems to predate spider-man. So I don't really know what their plan was.

There's easier ways to rule the city, they had that Ganali device, they could have had political leverage with that. Just makes no real sense that the sinsiter six exists unless it's 6 previous villians who have been defeated by spidey collaborating to kill spidey, and I'm very concerned we won't have that here.

Oscorp does not create (outside of the Goblin's) any villains in the comics, nor the S6.

About the CGI in this movie:

I thought the daytime shots looked incredible. Spidey's never looked better on the big screen.

The night time CGI, however, is where I think most of the "video gamey" CGI complaints may come from. Because of the increase in contrast + the already very vibrant color palette; it does make for a possibly video gamey look.

SM2 did the nighttime CGI with excellence. I have no idea how, but almost all of the nighttime swinging from that movie, looks pretty much photorealistic. It's pretty incredible, honestly. Especially seeing as the movie's 10 years old.

It's not too bad, but the idea of all the supervillians equipment just sitting in a vault at the bottom of Oscorp just seems a little weak to me. Electro wasn't too bad as it was an accident, same goes for the lizard. Harry is supposed to be Oscorp. Rhino was painful, it's like "you're Russian, want a suit?" "I AM ZE RHIIINO"

Can you just imagine these evil little elves laughing maniacally and putting together all these villian contraptions?

I don't mind the villians thematically thus far, but the way in which they come about is a little off putting.

Took my sixty year old Grandma to see it. She loved it. She literally said, "I'd give it 11 out of 10". So in my little corner of the world everyone I've seen it with or talked to about it absolutely loved it. So that's like... 30 people. Ranging from friends to parents to grandparents. Spider-Man fans to people who barely know a thing about him.

My mom saw it and thought it was just ok.

She doesn't know much about Spidey, either, though.

Yeah I haven't met a person in real life who hated it. Probably 50-60 people? Maybe it's just people my age, but I've got 14-65 year old where I work, and I don't get along with some of them either other than when I'm forced to pretend to. I wouldn't think there'd be much bias from who I was "selecting" to ask.... Funny thing to ponder.

All my family enjoyed the movie.

My wife thought the same as me : it was flawed, but it was genuinely entertaining and moving. Unlike her, I thought the scenes between Pter and Gwen were just redundant though. We both liked very much Harry and his goblin climax. Same for the ending. We both thought they nailed Spidey as a character.

Absolute dog****, one of the worst Marvel movies I've ever seen! Certainly the worst since SM3 this movie belongs in Marvel movie hell next to the Punisher movies and Howard the Duck

Well, you are a bit late to the party, aren't you, mate?

Ok guys time to fess up which one of the guys are behind this

That's a petition a bunch of asm 2 fans have got to try and force film critic movie bob to make his own movie because he dared to give asm 2 a bad review.

I really thought we were past this mentality as a fandom

Geez. When did people start getting so 'up in arms' about someone else's opinions? It's like people feel genuinely hurt because someone said something they like is 'bad.' I don't get it. Makes no sense. Why can't people just enjoy what they want and take the 'I don't give a crap what anyone else says' mentality? This reminds me of when the reviews were coming out for TDKR and some critics were getting death threats for 'bad' reviews. People get way too defensive about all this make-believe stuff. Make. Believe. As in, doesn't really exist. Heck, I wouldn't want to be a film critic either.

I just watched this film for the first time. :awesome:

I really loved it, for the most part. :awesome: Gwen and Peter's chemistry and stuff was great. The dialogue was good. Gwen was such a great character, both as a love interest and a friend, even though I wish the friend phase lasted longer.

And that transitions smoothly into the thing I didn't like: the pacing. The pacing felt weird to me. Also, things were happening too fast, even though it makes sense since time flies in this film. I wish the film was more self-contained and not setting up the next one, that would make it easier to take in all the emotional stuff, because the film gets over that very quickly.

I think this would be perfect as a TV series with more character development.

But overall, this was a really nice film - it had a lot of heart. I liked the past father stuff and Aunt May. Good but too franchisey, for lack of a better word.

Gland you like it roguie. I agrée for the most part.

I agree. With how huge the mythos of spiderman is he works better for a tv series.

So, how come it took you so long to see it?

Yeah. I was honestly expecting something really bad. Luckily, the protganists, Spidey and Gwen, were really great as always and they made the film for me.

I normally am not a fan of overdone romance stories and stuff, but this one had some neat stuff in it.

I don't go to the cinema. So I wait until I'm able to watch it at home, so I need to wait for a few months sadly.

EDIT: Aw, dammit. I meant to update my old post with this - didn't mean to make another post.

Well I finally saw this. I love Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. I love the first Amazing Spiderman film. But my problems with this film is that it felt less real world than the previous installment. Max Dillon becoming evil wasn't strong enough. He was a lonely guy that nobody noticed and went crazy when someone did notice him and told him he mattered. The message in this movie is don't put self esteem in anyone or they'll become bat crazy and take it in an unhealthy direction and become obsessed with you. Basically I didn't like how they made his character so emotionally inept.

The next thing I didn't like was it was obvious Gwen was going to die because the graduation speech which was obvious foreshadowing. When it finally happened I was already emotionally prepared and it didn't affect me as it should have. It should of been more of a shock and less obvious. The image of her father showing up over and over again didn't help much.

The thing that annoyed me was Harry and Peter knowing each other from childhood and how miraculously later on we find out their fathers worked together, just for the plot.

Paul Giamatti's Russian accent was appalling.

How come Peter at some point or at least at the end of the fight with Electro didn't die after being hit by all of that electricity?

At the end of the film I didn't feel much, It was obvious foreshadowing that she was going to die since the beginning. She gave him an out, telling him it was her decision removing him from any guilt.

I think the only reason it was obvious she was going to die was because the trailers showed so much that the only way it could have been more obvious was if the trailer said she dies lol. Peter didn't die because he is spider man and he has superstreght. Hey in sm 1 peter at the end took a bomb into the face witch made him go though a wall and got punched and kicked like 20 times before he got a hand on golbin once and he didn't die was hurt but didn't die. The only stupid thing with the electricity thing is that in asm1 when he gets shoot by a guy with electricity thing he gets hurt like has much in that has he dose form getting hit by electro for a lot longer pierod of time.

I don't care what people say, I loved Amazing Spider-Man 2! The c.g.i, visual effects and action was eyecandy to the hardcore spiderman fan! the story also kept me on the edge of my seat for the duration of the film and Gwen's death was executed perfectly! 9/10 from me
