Yeah it would be great, unfortunately this threads has been hijacked and become that thread.

Partly agree but there is much more scope to get praise for a Villian's role than the Hero's
Ifans did well in his role,he could have reached Fassbender kind of level had his character's intentions and motives been properly developed by the makers

If we're dividing heroes and villains, then I'd say we haven't seen a great performance post-Ledger. Pre-Ledger, I would say RDJ as Stark in the first IM, Bale as Wayne in BB, Reeve obviously in Superman.

And...I don't even understand why one would say Ifans would be up there, lol.

I hated Batman's voice in BB,too overdramatic and forced. It was Okay in TDK but Batman always felt second fiddle to Joker who stole the show

And Garfield's Spidey didn't sound "heroic" enough, but again, that's nitpicking over a voice. We're talking about the overall performance, nitpicks aside.

And it's obvious for Batman to play second fiddle when it comes to Joker.

It's what happens when you have such a powerful performance as the villain.

I agree, specially when you have talents like Nicholson's or Ledger's behind. But I feel Joker is *that^kind o character. No matter what he will always steal the show.

It wasn't just The Joker's character that made Batman play 2nd fiddle in TDK. It seemed that Bruce Wayne's character just wasn't written with any kind of arc to it. He was just...there.

So how much of a drop are we looking at this week?

Bale's role in BB was ordinary and in TDK Heath Ledger stole the show.Yet to be impressed

Though I heard he did excellently in TDKR

Bale owns the Batman role, he was part of a bigger story arc in that one which essentially all revolved around Batman himself
Bale gets my vote for most iconic obviously.

I was about right with the final total and SONY is bound to be please. Good word of mouth. Winning audience back. And first time out similar to BATMAN BEGINS -- which look at the bucks it's raking in now. That's the key. Strong entrance bound for returns.

I don't want to beat a guy over the head for his opinion on Garfield, who I thought was one of the few saving graces of this film.

I won't get into pre/post Ledger stuff, Ledger had an iconic performance made sadder by the fact he'll never be able to do it again.

One guy who I never hear come up in great comic book performances who I thought was brilliant, is Gary Oldman. In fact I'd rank Oldman above Bale in the Dark Knight series.

The others I think have been mentioned, Reeve, Keaton, Nicholson, Dafoe, Jackman, McKellum, Robert Downey Jr., Hiddleston, Fassbender, Hopkins...... I'm leaving out several, but I personally would rank all of these guys above Garfield, and I really liked Garfield's performance.

How about the worldwide numbers? :yay:

My God...

Andrew Garfield wouldn't come anywhere near my top 10 list.

And I liked him alot.

I'd love to see this top ten of superior superhero portrayals.

I thought Garfield was fantastic as Peter Parker. I'm not sure why people feel the need to downplay his performance.

What was lacking from his version of Peter Parker???

I'm hoping for TAS to make it to $800 million worldwide as Sony is shooting for. But given that it only made $66.6 million internationally and $34 million domestically this weekend and is at $520 worldwide as of the end of the weekend, I don't see how it will make another $280 during the rest of its run, especially with TDKR coming (unless there are more markets left to open). But $700 million to $750 million would still be very impressive for a reboot.

Without any significant openings, The Amazing Spider-Man dropped down to second place with $66.6 million from 87 markets. Among its handful of minor debuts, its best was in Norway ($1.3 million). The movie's top grossing market overall this weekend was the U.K. with $6.02 million, while its highest-grossing territory to date is South Korea with a $32.2 million total. Overall, The Amazing Spider-Man has grossed $320.4 million overseas, and on Sunday it passed the $500 million mark worldwide.

It's a lot.

Grrr... attack of the simple grammar mistakes. blegegegh

RDJ is at the top of my list.

He didn't in Batman (1966). Penguin was the standout in that one. But usually, yes, you are right.

I liked Garfield, but he isn't in my top ten either.

My top ten in chronological order:

1) Christopher Reeve
2) Jack Nicholson
3) Michelle Pfeiffer
4) Hugh Jackman
5) Ian McKellen
6) Christian Bale
7) Robert Downey Jr.
8) Heath Ledger
9) Aaron Eckhart
10) Michael Fassbender

McAvoy > Fassbender in First Class imo. It is like people ignore him for the more obvious character, but McAvoy is the heart and soul of that film and why it works.

McAvoy just missed my top ten. I did really like him too, but I liked Fassbender a teenie bit more. Hiddleston as Loki is another one who just missed. They would probably be 11 and 12.

I meant just a top 10 of hero roles.

But I think it's safe to say Garfield's Peter Parker is officially underrated.

His performance completely embodied the character. What more do you want???

McAvoy was Xavier right?

Yes, and he was awesome. He didn't need to be angry the entire time.

I love Fassbender and he rocked in the movie, but McAvoy was the man in that movie. Every moment was gold, even the deleted ones. I wish they had kept the hallway scene with him and Fassbender.

As to Garfield, he was terrific and the best part of the film for me, but I don't think I'd put him in my top ten.

I think there are many examples of actors completely embody their characters or just gave great performances in the role of heroes. Reeves, Bale, Keaton, Hemsworth, RDJ, Ruffalo, Jackman, Fassbender, McAvoy, Cumming, Hopkins, Routh, etc.

So quality of the film probably comes into it.

Yea, I thought he was pretty awesome as Xavier.

But I was confused why Raven/Mystique actually decided to join Magneto :/
I felt like the reasoning she probably had for it wasn't good enough.

No one's downplaying his performance at all. He was a great Spider-Man/Peter Parker, but he wouldn't really come to mind when I think of an amazing CBM performance.

I am very glad to see TASM shot up with the numbers. 521 mil worldwide is a nice plump figure.

This was the movie's last weekend chance to gain some legs before Batman dominates the box office. I'm glad it did.
