And Hiddleston would be mine. I also loved James McAvoy and Mark Ruffalo too. Hemsworth and Evans are probably around the same level as Garfield.

No offence but I feel Ruffalo's role is very overrated. He did his part but it was nothing out of the ordinary

I actually agree, though I don't know, I don't think it's neccesarily fair to compare an actor portraying a hero to one portraying a villain. Both, in fact any role is hard to pull off, but I think villains tend to get alot more credit as it's 'harder' to get into the mindset of one, and as villains tend to be so 'out there' to how a human acts etc. I don't agree with that, but I do agree that to play either demands different capabilities.

but yeah as iconic villain portrayels go.
1. Heath Ledger
2. Tom Hiddleston
3. Macheal Fassbender

iconic hero portrayals
1. Robert Downey Jr
2. Andrew Garfield
3. Chris Evans

Agreed
Am I the only one who appreciates Dafoe's character in SM?

Ruffalo was much better than the utterly bland, generic performance by Norton. The same "decent everyman" persona hes used in a dozen other films. Whedon and Ruffalo understood that Banner is an eccentric, and the performance reflected that fact.

Plus Norton's chicken head made matching his face to the Hulks impossible.

Maybe Ruffalo's performance was overrated, but still worlds better than the Bana and Norton.

So does anyone have updated predictions given the current numbers? Im going with 640m WW.

Good news for Spidey 200 milion domestic! But who knows actual numbers could be a little lower

Yes very strong. From ERC Boxoffice.

"In second place, “The Amazing Spider-Man” is turning out to be just that—off just -44%—Sony’s successful reboot had one of the best second-weekend superhero holds of all-time and netted $35 million this weekend. The fourth Spidey film now becomes just the fifth flick of 2012 to cross $200+ million.

Overseas, the Webslinger netted $66.6 million this weekend bringing its international tally to $320 milllion. Sony’s worldwide web has now snared $521 million."

Too bad TDKR is coming so soon afterwards, who knows just how much more it could have made when it's all said and done (For those bleeding hearts so concerned about how much of a profit Sony will make).

It certainly is a great hold for ASM but I am slightly skeptical of the actual figures considering what happened last weekend.

I feel Ruffalo's performance is overrated while Norton's performance is underrated.

Pre-Ledger, Dafoe did a great job. I'm only talking about post-Ledger in which you were talking about. Post-Ledger, Hiddleston and Fassbender killed it whereas Garfield, I felt, didn't. He was a great Spidey, but nowhere did he hit the character(Spidey or Peter) out of the park.

Bale's role in BB was ordinary and in TDK Heath Ledger stole the show.Yet to be impressed

Though I heard he did excellently in TDKR

If Bale's role in BB is ordinary, then so was Garfield. Don't be so biased.

Sony is expecting the movie to reach 800 million total when all is said and done. That's...surprising.

That's a great hold but it has to be put in perspective after a fairly low first week-end (as a consequence of it's tuesday release) and because every contender in the top 10 (except for Madagascar 3) got around the same kind of hold for this week-end.
It would've probably made around 90/100 millions more without TDKR, now I think it'll struggle to get to the 275 millions mark.

Oh and is there are reason Christopher Reeve is being excluded from the iconic superhero ranking?

He's by far the best. Only RDJ comes close. I'd say Hugh Jackman and Andrew Garfield are tied for a distant third.

Bale was acceptable but he didn't completely own the role like those four.

I got to agree with MD on Christopher Reeve...he is so ingrained in the public conscious as Superman.

The first topic was speaking on post-Ledger. Then everyone started to add in RDJ and what not.

And still, I don't get the praise for Garfield...or even Jackman for that matter.

No question about it, great WOM is the reason for the fantastic second week hold. 87% general audience rating on Rotten Tomato is pretty amazing. It's a pity TDKR is going to cut Spidey's legs clean off.

Reeve and RDJ are the ones who I would say are 100% perfect for their respective role.
I would say the same for Garfield but we should wait to see how he does in the Sequel

Agree for the most part Messiah, but I'd put Jackman and Garfield ahead of Downey Jr. A bit more smarmy then I would have liked.

Now back on topic...

Partly agree but there is much more scope to get praise for a Villian's role than the Hero's
Ifans did well in his role,he could have reached Fassbender kind of level had his character's intentions and motives been properly developed by the makers

I hated Batman's voice in BB,too overdramatic and forced. It was Okay in TDK but Batman always felt second fiddle to Joker who stole the show

Agree, Christopher Reeve has to be way up there on the list. Mark Ruffalo was very likable and understated as BB/Hulk, far better than his predecessors. That said, also don't think it rates as one of the best cbm performances.

My top cbm performances:

Heath Ledger's Joker
Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker
Christopher Reeve Superman

RDJ is very good as IM/TS, but for me his shtick gets old after a while.

My God...

Andrew Garfield wouldn't come anywhere near my top 10 list.

And I liked him alot.

Why don't we have a thread about best comic book hero/villain portrayals? It would be great to see what everyone thinks.
